So, if Lue is down to Suns and Celtics..
Does this mean House is as good as gone?
I'm pretty sure we wouldn't sign both of them.. especially if we want to keep Pruitt as our third PG.
I'd say Lue over House is a decent upgrade, no? He brings the same shooting, but with better handles.

Hell no, I'd see Lue as a huge step-DOWN from House.
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

How is Lue a huge step down from House? Hes basically the exact same player imo but Id give the advantage to House still due to hustle

House wants more years and more money.
If Lue signs, it'll probably be for one year and less $ than House.
If we get Lue, then we'll be saying bye to House.

House never played defense till last year so theoretically Lue could play defense as well. Overall I'd say step to your left then step to your right and spin around, now grab a partner and sign along folks.

That's how I see it too. I think all this is contingent upon whether Posey stays or not. Posey likely commands the full MLE (for however many years), which means we'd likely offer Lue the vets minimum.
House, I believe, will command a little more than the vets exception. The likelihood of us keeping House might be greater if Posey goes elsewhere... but who knows.
Sure wish this Posey thing would get over with, one way or the other. Seems like it's keeping us, and a few other teams as well, in limbo until resolved.

Re: So, if Lue is down to Suns and Celtics..
IMO it depends on what you want/expect from House (for whether you consider Lue better or not).
What I mean by that is that basically what you would normally want from a back-up PG is ballhandling, playmaking, leadership, and some offense. What we got with House last year was shooting, energy, and hustle plays.
Do I love House and his contributions to the team last year? Absolutely.
Is Lue more of a prototypical back-up PG? Absolutely.
Does it mean we cant have both? Well most likely not, but maybe. House has value as a shooter and spot rotation guy. I.E. if we are playing a team with anti-linsey hunters ( no ball pressure) then it might be good to have a guy like House in there who is (in my opinion) a much better shooter than Lue and thus, better at spreading the floor and creating space for our stars to operate in. Plus House can be used as a shooting guard alongside Rondo if we are playing teams with small back courts.
If I had to predict I would say a Lue signing would be the end of Eddie's days in Boston, but he would still have a niche, be it a smaller one, if both were around. It all depends on how much the owners are willing to spend and what DA envisions with our remaining roster spots.
I like Eddie, but if we signed Lue...I would rather use a roster spot on the Birdman and just roll with Rondo, Lue, and Pruitt.

this is some GREAT posturing by this guys agent. he definitely deserves whatever hes gettin off Lue's next deal.
its hard to believe Danny is sitting there with his fingers crossed hoping for Tyronn Lue!! cmon, there are plenty of options that are right in the same boat as he is.

Alright, please explain. And please factor into your explanation that House wants more money than last year and multiple years, whereas Lue can be had for less money and only one year, which leaves our options open for next year.

First off I'm going to plead ignorance on the financial side, as I don't pay too much attention to all the intracacies of the cap, salaries, rules, etc beyond what an average avid fan would.
That being said I see Lue as a lower BBIQ, lesser-shooting less defense version of Eddie with slightly better ballhandling skills.

Re: So, if Lue is down to Suns and Celtics..
I think it's obvious that if Lue takes our minimum offer, House is as good as gone.
Lue does provide much better ballhandling and overall point guard skills. His 3 point shot is good (nearly 39% for his career, which is a couple of tenths of percentage higher than Eddie's career average), but he doesn't shoot and score in bunches as much as Eddie does, and he's not going to come in and hit a couple daggers to put us up 15 either. He's also a little slower, and little older, a little smaller and a little safer.
What I'm trying to say is that overall they're very similar players. You get more offense and scoring bursts from Eddie, and a little more hustle, strength, etc....but you get a little more point guard play and overall steadiness from Lue, things which have team-wide benefits (especially on the 2nd unit, which often had scoring problems). I don't think it matters, in terms of Ws, which one we end up with.
Personally, all things being equal, I'd take Eddie 100 times out of 100. His game is fun to watch and his spirit is very important to this team. But Lue would be cheaper, and probably more willing to be 3rd string behind Pruitt (who's basically a bigger, faster, better ball-handling Eddie House). Eddie's going to want more than the minimum, and he might not be so keen becoming 3rd string. And he probably wants more than a 1-year deal.
Therefore, all thing considered, Lue is probably the best decision because he gets you to Pruitt faster and he's cheaper and only here for a year. But let me say this: his game is boring as hell, though he recently shaved his cornrows and braids, which is good because they looked terrible. But his game is still ugly. I'd take Eddie on purely aesthetic reasons. So, here's hoping Lue picks Phoenix because I'd rather watch exciting basketball over boring basketball any day of the week.
Now, if they were really looking to upgrade the backup point guard position (which I'm not saying they are or even should be, because Rondo's only going to get better and better and therefore demand more and more playing time), they should go after Jannero Pargo. If they don't get Posey, they could possibly get Pargo for half the MLE. He's much much better than House or Lue. He can play point AND score in bunches.

Re: So, if Lue is down to Suns and Celtics..
Lue can get the ball across half-court better than either Sam or Eddie while still being able to space the floor with his shooting, he might not be the shooter house is but you can't leave him alone to double anyone else which is good enough. I have no idea about Lue's defense but if we could put Sam on the court and still defend Lue ain't going to hurt us. Really he can replace both Sam and Eddie on the cheap, he's a little more of an all around point guard than either. I've got nothing against Eddie but when we needed to put the ball in Sam's hands in order to get into the offense before the shot clock was running down in the playoffs, that just doesn't make me want to give him a raise or a longer contract. If he wanted to resign for the same deal, then sure, but he's probably the most replaceable guy on the team after Pollard and Scal.

"I want to play. I don't want to go anywhere where the situation is I'm sitting on the bench, especially after winning the championship."
Asked what he would want from the Celtics, House replied, "Years and, definitely, a raise. I feel I deserve a raise. Some security."

Lue has a much better ballhandling and is a better passer, shoots the three just slightly worse, but is just as pesky on defense as House. And if we want to develop Pruitt, House wouldn't be the answer. And I really want to see more Pruitt than House/Lue, except for dicey situations at the end of games. And it would be much safer with Lue being 3rd string, because House said he wants a role, more monye and multiple years.

Lue would be alright... Isn't he good friends with KG? That might make his decision come easier to choose boston.

lue actually brings more to the table for us. same as house but he can handle the ball well and play good pressure defense as well. it would be nice for him to develop into the mold of our system.

Re: So, if Lue is down to Suns and Celtics..
I understand the emotional attachment to House, but if he's thinking he deserves more years/money all of a sudden he's falling into a trap of over-inflated self-worth. I can't help but wonder if some fans are adding their resentment of Sam Cassell and transforming it into further love for Eddie House. Just because Brand #1 tasted like spoiled ice cream doesn't mean Brand #2 is tiramisu. Let's not lose sight of the fact that Pierce had to play point forward against LA because Fisher and Farmar were preventing Eddie from dribbling up the court. He was basically a pint-sized Waltah last year, which is fine if you aren't expected to handle the offense for 15 MPG.
Lue may not be a sexy backup option but he gets the job done and would likely be our best backup PG out of the current crop left (God knows I'd take him in a heartbeat over the likes of J-Will). It also opens up room for Pruitt to operate either as a PG (without Lue) or SG (with) without becoming undersized as a Pruitt/House combo would, since House is a SG in a PG's body.

Re: So, if Lue is down to Suns and Celtics..
I just wish I got to see the same Eddie House some of you guys saw.
Anyway on the financial end if Lue is looking at the minimum then he would be a financial boon for Boston. He is in line for $1.26 mil but Boston would only be on the hook for $400,000.
At LLE money which Boston can essentially give House without actually using it, I think that Lue is still the better player. I just don't think there is 20 mpg in Boston for Eddie House next season and he seems to want that as much as more money.
I think because of his ability on the ball defensively and offensively I think there is more of a role in Boston for Lue. He seems to be focused on role as much as money at this point. They are trying to sell him on being a replacement for Nash so he can sit out games but that is mostly because no matter how they want to spin it they don't have a significant rotation role to offer him. They have 3 guards avg over 30 mpg you don't have to be a math genious to figure out the situation.
There is 15 mpg for him in Boston if he earns it.

I have seen Lue before. He is hard-nosed and very similar to House's with more pg skillls.

Lue might have PG skills - and I wouldn't hate if we signed him. But one thing I really appreciated about House is that he knew his limitations. He would quickly get the ball out of his hands to get the offense moving and would look to move without the ball and get it BACK to score. I really liked that and the offense flowed very well especially when some announcer said OMG Eddie isnt' a PG. Well he never tried to be. I tell you my guy Marcus Banks could learn alot from watching House. House embraced his scoring heritage and yet made it work in the team concept. And he would at times just PUNISH teams with his shooting..
