OT: Camby to Clips for 2nd rnd'er
This is just crazy. Nugs do this for financial flexibility? What flexibility with AI/Melo/Kmart. I don't get this from the Nugs point of view. I don't get this from the Clips point of view Kaman/Camby don't seem to fit

They save at least $25 million on the deal. Looks like they are throwing in the towel. AI & Melo are going to be happy.

Wow. The Nets have to be pissed... They really wanted Camby.
I hope this isn't the Clippers' answer to losing Brand because you've a starting center already in Kaman. Camby's more of a center than a power forward. I don't remember him playing power forward since he was with Toronto. I don't understand this move... It's like the Clippers did exactly the same boneheaded move as the Cavaliers when they'd acquired Ben Wallace when they've Ilgauskas. So, Cleveland starts Wallace at power forward. I guess the Cippers will do the same with Camby. On the bright side, Camby isn't making nearly as much as Wallace in the two years he has remaining.

2nd rounders???? We could have done the same thing.
There has to be some other fillers in that trade, yes?

We couldn't have done the same thing. LAC has the cap space to do it for a second rounder straight up.

Can someone explain this trade?
I thought you always have to match the salaries in order to trade for someone?

Re: OT: Camby to Clips for 2nd rnd'er
Camby is not bad, but it kind of seems like a panic move by them. They probably thought that they couldn't sign any of the restricted FA's.
I have no idea why the nuggets did this move. They could have probably gotten more for camby. Wonder if AI and Melo now get moved.

You have to match salaries if you're over the cap. However, if one of the teams is enough under the cap to take in salary and still be under the cap or I think slightly above it then they don't have to match salaries.
That's also why Denver does this deal. The owner doesn't want to pay the luxury tax and was looking to shed salary. If Denver traded with other teams they would have to take expiring contracts most likely. This way they shed the salary immediately.

LA had the cap space to take camby on without giving up anyone.
Trade ID #4726102
^^There. it checks out on the trade checker. I used Sofocles to represent the 2nd rounder.

Re: OT: Camby to Clips for 2nd rnd'er
The Nuggets get out of the money and also aquire a huge trade exception they can use for up to a year. So technically they couldn't get more unless they let that exception just expire.
Camby can be used at either the 4 or 5 he is actually a better defender at the PF spot and should really help Kaman out who is a pretty damn good offensive player and both are great on the glass.
I kind of like how the Clippers come out of this
Davis/Mobley/Thornton/Camby/Kaman
If they stay healthy that is a playoff team.

Re: OT: Camby to Clips for 2nd rnd'er
Maybe they'll flip Camby to NY for Randolph or a S+T for Smith or Okafor. If they don't do that this trade makes no sense.

Re: OT: Camby to Clips for 2nd rnd'er
So, in that case, Nuggets current salary from $76million will be $68million this coming season, yeah?
and Clippers will add another $8million on top of their salary, yeah?

Re: OT: Camby to Clips for 2nd rnd'er
What is the record for most points in a game? 176, I think.
I predict that Denver allows a team (lakers or suns) to score over that this season. They didn't play defense last year. Now it is going to be down right comical.
Edit: forgot GS. They could do it too.

Re: OT: Camby to Clips for 2nd rnd'er
the nuggets have nene locked up long term and he has shown promise so saving would be ideal for the nuggets and it's a different look with nene's low post scoring and a healthy kmart.
maybe they will trade camby or kaman for a S&T josh smith?
atlanta would look better with a legit starting center and keeping childress.
camby or kaman
horford
williams
johnson
bibby
however having a scorer like baron davis, cuttino mobley and a low post scorer in kaman. camby would be a nice power forward. he brings what josh and okafor brings on defense at that spot.

Why wouldn't it make sense. Kaman is an offensive minded big and Camby is a good complement to him as a more mobile defensive minded big that can play outside of the paint. It's not like the west is going small. Let's review the big for the top West teams:
Lakers: Bynum and Gasol = not a problem
Hornets: West and Chandler = not a problem
Suns: Shaq and Amare = not a problem
Spurs: Duncan and a scrub big = not a problem (though they do go small at times)
Mavs: Nowitzki and Diop/Dampier = Nowitzkis is a matchup issue but that's the case against most PFs in the league anyways
Jazz: Okur and Boozer = not a problem (Okur does play in the perimeter a lot minimizing Camby's help defense but he's not fast enough to beat Camby)
Rockets: Yao and scrub = not a problem
...
And the list goes on. The only teams I can see a Kaman/Camby duo being an issue against is Mavs (Nowitzki), Hawks(JSmith), Warriors and maybe Orlando (Lewis). There really aren't that many teams that go small all the time and could therefore outrun those twin towers. And offensively Camby plays outside while Kaman plays inside so it's a good combination. If anything, I'd feel worried/bad about Baron. This moves clearly signal that the Clips are now a halfcourt offense which will limit how much Baron can run free.

Re: OT: Camby to Clips for 2nd rnd'er
The Clippers have acquired center Marcus Camby from the Nuggets in a move to create salary cap room for the Nuggets.
In return, the Nuggets have the right to switch 2nd-round draft picks in the 2010 draft with the Clippers.
The Nuggets will receive a $10 million trade exception due to the deal. It can be used for up to a year from the day the trade is completed.

I think Denver is well aware of Camby's health issues. Don't make this trade, Clips!!!!!!!

Re: OT: Camby to Clips for 2nd rnd'er
Did they at least get some autographed clippers jerseys or something with that second rounder?Denver fans are not going to be happy, and I don't blame them, seems like throwing in the towel to me. They had to have been able to get more for Camby than that, even if it didn't mean cash savings. Isn't Denver still over the cap after this move?
