I heard a couple of names being kicked around and I really like "Barons". Thunder to me just screams d-league. I hope they don't try some gimmic logo like OKC in some cumular nimbus with dark grey and dark blue jerseys. That would be sick...well in the get green and throw up kind of way.

I definitely liked Barons a lot better. Saw those pics of Barons jerseys in black and gold. They were very sharp.

Thunder sounds like a girls roller derby team name.

Hate sport teams that don't end in S. They also have a terrible history of winning titles. The Red Sox and White Sox have changed this somewhat but at leats their name is essentially a plural, you can't be a Thunder or a Jazz, don't like it.

 that's exactly what i was going to say! man i hate these singular team names. wtf are you supposed to call one player? A Thund? it's too WNBA. Barons would have been way better just for that reason alone.

BOOO!!!! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 6th grade team was the thunder... BOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sniffle. Honestly, I'm just sad they didn't roll with the OKC Stallionaires so that we could see an epic battle between the idiot brothers from VH1's I Love New York/I Love Money vs the NBA for naming rights to Stallionaires. & to think, I sent in atleast 3 suggestions of the OKC Stallionaires, & THIS IS HOW THEY REPAY ME, THE THUNDER. ****!!!

Is this for the new NBA franchise in OKC or some minor league woman's ice hockey expansion team? In the words of Sir Charles Barkley, "That's turrible."

I like this name, if only for the cool intros they can do where they hit the lights and have a sick thunderstorm happening.

Hmm... considering that Thunder is often "stolen," the name OKC Thunder seems fitting enough.

Actually, I was hoping for something more along the lines of the OKC Outlaws, or maybe the OKC Pips featuring Kevin Durant...

In all seriousness though, the OKC Jackrabbits (with bunny-themed cheerleaders) totally deserves consideration.

And there are Jackrabbits in Oklahoma. I googled.

On a side note, all that costly litigation was massive publicity for the OKC and team considering how much media coverage it garnered.

Most Patriots fans here know how having all other fans and media being down on your team can galvanize a fanbase.

Maybe Clay Bennett gets the last laugh after all?

I like it, Thunder is sweet.

As for what you are suppose to call a player

"Thunder player, Durant is one real bust!"

It's better then "Bobcats", or "heat" or "wizard"

Wow look at that wizard he's a magician with the ball!

Yeah so that heat player is really heating up!

Screw those names, if it's going to be something silly at least relate it to a force of nature or a symbolic animal of the region.

So what's the over/under on ACDC's Thunderstruck being played in their arena?

Yeah thunder, will have the same annoying pluralization as Magic. The name is also pretty location neutral: What does Thunder have to do with OKC? Sure it thunders a lot there, but it thunders everywhere. Doesn't the city have something that they are well-known for?

I think the name is extremely corny.
Outlaws or Barons is wayyyy better.

OK city finally gets a pro sports franchise and they name it after an arena football team. Way to act like you know what your doing, boys.

Plus, those Barons jerseys looked so sick

Too bad.

Does "Thunder" have anything to do with the area of Oklahoma City? Just curious... If not, then I don't like it. To me, it's all about what's catchy for marketing purposes. How else do you explain nicknaming a team the Wizards or Raptors?
