Why not Ricky Davis

OK, we all know what's involved here. But, he's probably the best buy on the market right now. He's still only 28, scores, rebounds, can play D, hustles, gets to the line, and can come off the bench. Never misses a game.
Sure there's a little knuckled headedness there but he was playing with the great lineup of Toine and Blount. He would provide more than TA or House and could easily start when needed. He was a large fan favorite here and would excel with Rondo.
This isn't much different from Magette, especially from a Clippers fan point of view.
Why not.....

Maggette=halfway decent human being. Davis, not so much. I like his game a ton, just not his attitude at all.

I think that Davis would be a good pickup. Garnett seems to have a positive effect on knuckleheads. Look at Sprewell.

If Ricky comes here it will probuly be in the same manner James Posey did last year. Sometime next month for no more then 2 years and less then the full MLE.
He would certainly end any ball promblems we had last year whenever we didn't have Pierce or Rondo on the court.
I'm a big fan of Ricky Davis as I made a thread a while back about him being plan C behind Magette and Posey. I am however getting a little concern right now that we don't have any defensive roleplayers on our bench. Just a bunch of second rounders and a bust of a Center.
If Ricky comes I'd hope we at least luck into another reliable veteran shotblocking presence and rebounder who knowes maybe Theo Ratliff but that's getting desperate.

Childress(long shot i know) and Q. Ross would be better imo. Childress more efficient offensively and Ross just better defensively. those are the 2 guys ive been fond of lately for some reason.

Ricky will certainly provide scoring, no doubt.
His defense needs a lot of work though. He allows an Eff. FG% higher than his own Eff FG%. Not good.
However, I really believe that anyone who joins the Celtics will become a better defender. We have a great defensive coach and Garnett. The work ethic is too hard for any sloppy defense to be played, especially from a FA.
If we do sign Davis, it will have to be the FULL mid-level. He made 6.8 million in Miami last season, and there's no way he comes to play for half that!

if we sign him. i hope it would be as cheap as posey of last year. i like him also and has been nice alongside kg in minny. he would be perfect off the bench but we still need a tall sf who can defend and a steady pg who can shoot the 3.

Not for the full mid-level if that's what he projects to get. For the minimum, or 1/2 the MLE, I'd do it. The guy was great to have around, and I never had any problems with him. When he left there was a story pertaining to locker room issues that came out, but Paul and the rest of the fellas really seemed to like Ricky. I don't know if Garnett took a liking to Rick during his time in Minnesota or not. That would probably be the deal breaker. Paul and Ray seem to be able to get along with anyone, but Garnett needs to have guys that think like him around him.

He has a history of undermining pierce in the locker room, I don't know talent wise its a no brainer but is he gonna be ok only playing 20 mins some nights, with teh current state of the roster we do need somoene of the bench who can score talent wise we could do ALOT worse, i dont know....heres the real question, Bonzi wells or ricky davis...Disucss.

I'm not sure what happened near the end of Ricky's stay in Boston but Rivers, at the time actually made reference to it. I hope it is not a deal breaker, because I think Davis would be an excellent option. Since the Celtics already had Davis and had the "Brain Doctor" involved with the team, they may have an opinion whether or not Ricky, at this point could handle being a reserve.
He went to two terrible situations in Minnesota and Miami - he may also do it to get his career and reputation on track.

I like him when he was here. We don't need to put up with his stuff anymore. When we were bad. we had to. Now we don't. I say NO. Even though I'm still a fan.

It was said that Davis undermined Paul`s authority on the team or something in this regard. I don`t think we are interested in bringing him back if there were problems between him and Pierce. And I will never forget Davis and Blount when we lost to Minny in Minnesota. Total jerks!

I'd like to see Ricky back in green. I think we'll wait though. In a few weeks, I have a feeling he will be on the outside looking in. That's what we are waiting for. There are always the guys who sign early for more than they are worth. As a result, there are always guys who get left out in the cold and can be had for a bargain. I think Ricky will be one of those bargains.

Bad idea in my opinion, this team doesn't need him. The couple of Miami games I saw him play in he didn't look that great and he was playing with a bunch of D-Leaguers. If you are going to go with a player with character issues, at least go with a winner. Davis has lost for every team he has player for including us.
If Ainge doesn't find the player he wants then give the minutes to TA, Giddens and Walker.

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little. Why are people constantly trying to bring back players that were traded? Especially Ricky!

Hey canman, I've got an idea
Backup PG - Delonte
Backup SG - Ricky
3/4 Replacement for Posey - The Shimmy
----------There's your team!
Of course if we can't get those guys we can always go after Sebastian Telfair and Ryan Gomes.

Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett played with him, didn't they? They would want their old friends in Boston. I haven't heard a single positive word out of their mouths abotu Ricky.

I was just saying Corey would be a good option because he was a decent guy, didnt mean for it to come off as a dig at him, i dont know enough atbout him to say what type of guy he is. and Ricky? its been rumored he wasnt exactly a good soldier all the time

Yeah, what the hell? We should just throw that money to Tony Allen and Eddie House whose combined talent is about half of Ricky's.
