Some Good Big Baby News

Danny was on WEEI with Dennis and Callahan this morning. They asked him how players respond after winning a championship. DA said he doesn't worry about superstars. PP, Ray and KG will be like addicts and want more. But he also stated Big Baby is hungry for minutes. And you would not believe how hard he is working out this summer.

Great news. I was a little worried how he was going to approach this off season.

DA also said Rondo was jacking up 300 shots the day after the finals and expects a great season from him now that the burden is off.

Glen Davis is going into a contract year. The guy has tremendous potential on both ends of the court. He brings tremendous energy and charisma. My guess is that he is going to steal minutes from both Powe and POB due to his great understanding of defensive rotations and his overall ability on the offensive end.

I heard that interview too. I thought Big Baby would be a prime candidate for a "hangover" year. It's good to hear that he's been working out like a madman.

Why is that? Sure a title is nice, but his main goal right now is to make as much money as possible. I would expect him to work his ass off right now since it's his contract year. If he plays well this season and gets a good contract, then I would be very worried about a "hangover" year.

By this time next year Baby will sadly be gone.

Earn that contract Glen!

I have to agree with HighAboveCourtside. Similar to what happens to college football players after they do the whole banquet circuit deal, gain a lot of weight and come into camp out of shape. That's what I feared. He may be fighting for that contract, but he is also young and somewhat famous and coming off a championship season.

Great news. I think Baby might actually end up our top backup C, with Powe as our backup PF. The Powe-Baby front line was pretty successful the few times it was trotted out last year. Of course if POB explodes then it will be more interesting. But that would be a good problem to have.

i would rather keep POWE than big baby. yes, i LOVE big baby, but powe offers more overall.

so, talking about powe, what will happen with him? i want to buy a leon powe jersey, but i'm not gonna spend all that money if he's only gonna be here 1 year. do you guys think we will keep him as KG's replacement, or will we let him leave like we did posey?

Big Baby will not be our backup center. However, he can substitute for Perk and move Garnet to the 5. KG is long, tall, and slim while Baby is a shorter wide body that bangs. They're a good tandem.

KG, Perk, Powe, Baby, and POB are a good collection of players for the front court.

I actually don't see that. He will be a restricted FA and Boston will have his early bird rights and he is limited to the value of the MLE as a salary.

I could see him not being good enough to stay in Boston or him and Powe becoming an either or but I don't think success will chase him out of Boston. The Lux Tax crunch eases next season as well and the issue simply becomes whether Baby and Powe are the guys worth using up the cap flexibility on.

If you envision this team being built around Pierce and KG for another 3 years after Ray's contract ends with Rondo essentially becoming the 3rd star. This team could use a rotation of Perk, Powe, Davis, and O'Bryant for all the mins at the 5 spot and all the backup mins at the forward spots with KG playing some 3.

While neither Powe or Davis are perfect prototypes as NBA players they both have starter talent and some position flexibility. I think that Powe could end up being a much better situational SF than he is a C defensively. They both have what KG doesn't and that is some junk in the trunk and some thump and both have good hands.

Everything is year to year and O'Bryant might be useless and neither Baby or Powe may ever be anything more than role players but combined with Perk this foursome certainly has the potential to be the ideal way to surround KG.

You look at what Ainge has done and he has brought in 2 SG's and a SF through the draft. One can play a little pg. These guys could fill some if not all of the void left by Ray Allen and perhaps all the development junkies will end up getting what they always wanted anyhow.

this year will be an evaluation between powe and baby as to who will become our longtime bench big. i think powe wins out, but we will see.

Unless BBD gets some more minutes this upcoming season, I don't see anyone offering a substantial deal for him. It's not like he's got great athletic/size upside, a la Amir Johnson. If we don't retain him next year with a tender, he'll likely get somewhere around the LLE or vet minimum. Undersized bigs who don't play a ton aren't a hot commodity, so I think it's wise on Glen's part to push as hard as possible for minutes this year.

With Posey gone, that leaves 5-6 MPG open in the frontcourt when Posey used to slide down there to play smallball. That could go to POB, or it could go to Powe. But it looks like BBD is at least making a case for himself.

I've actually heard that Baby has been sort of turd since winning the championship. He got TRASHED at the parade and then was seen driving in Waltham soon after returning.

Yikes Baby, don't drive drunk!

Meh, can't really get into any other details regarding his character, let's just say that I wouldn't be surprised if he was shipped out in a trade before the all-star break. I don't see him wearing green past this upcoming season...

Baby's gonna surprise a lot of people on this board. Knowledge and conditioning go a long way. He should have both next year, along with a viable 15 foot jumper. And I don't think it's necessarily a question of Powe versus Baby. They both are good options off the bench and they're cheap. Why the rush to pick one or the other? I can see us keeping both for at least 2 years, until one or the other makes the jump and gets paid. The early money might be on Powe, but there's lots of race left.

These two will both start the season getting minutes and POB will have to earn his from them. You have to remember that Baby is just as good as Powe and is the better defender. When Powe was benched last year it was because he missed defensive assignments. You have to love Powe's heart and the inthusiasm Baby has. Hopefully there is a way to keep both on this team, but time will tell. As one poster said they did play well together while on the court at the same time and I noticed that during the summer league last year when they went against Portland's frontcourt of Oden and Aldridge, as they more than held their own against a much bigger frontcourt. If Cleveland is our biggest hurdle to another championship I think Baby is the better option as he matches against Verajoeu and Wallace much better. It would be a painful decision to make as we all love both these guys, and lets hope we don't have to make a decision.

He needs to maintain his weight loss during the season. He fattened up last year during the season. Maybe he needs to be careful where he eats out. At the start of the season he was just very overweight. By the end of it it he was fat.

Pete,

It sounds like Baby just needs to learn to eat better. Hire a nutritionist and work out everyday and he'll be fine. I know guys like Antoine could never stick to a diet, but I think Baby will, at least in a contract year.
