Delonte and Ryan are still out there. Of the 2 of them Gomes fits our needs better but he wants more $ than we have to offer as he is seeking the full MLE. Frankly I don't see any way he gets the full MLE and he may opt for a one year deal with the wolves. Ditto for delonte with cleveland. He wants north of $3M since that's what they gave Gibson. I don't see us getting either but you never know. as for our rookies I guess Danny is waiting for free agency to end before signing them but isn't JR slotted? I don't understand why we haven't signed him yet. What is the BFD? Is Danny a little po'd at JR's agent and just sending a little "love" his way or is there something else going on here? Finally, it sounds like memhis is willing to deal jarvis critterdon. We don't need another young player but is he a player we should be interested in? Who's left out there for big men? I don't see us getting Devean George. I liked Evans but he's signing with GS. I thought Barnes would have been a nice fit but he's gone too.

I just want a backup SF, I do NOT want Brian Scalabrine taking up SF minutes next year based on the fact we have no one else.
All of a sudden if we signed Devean George I wouldn't be upset, even though he's a putrid shooter, look at his FG% over his career.

Ainge has already said we have our 9-man rotation set. if we sign anyone it will be some end of the bench dude. George would be ok but he wouldn't be in the rotation anyway so who cares. i'd be surprised if george came here ecxactly for that reason- why would he come to a place where he has no chance to play unless someone gets injured?
I think a lot of rookies aren't signed yet. it's no big deal. they're slotted so what's the hurry.

I thought we learned by now that we can't trust everything Ainge says to the public?

I don't think Gomes or West fit with the Celtics anymore, at least not with the current roster. There will only be 15 mpg or less to split between House, Pruitt and West if he was signed. Not enough minutes for him here, especially after he had been starting for Cleveland. No way he would even want to come here to go from starter to 3rd string.
Same situation for Gomes with Powe and Baby needing more minutes this year. Plus Gomes doesn't give you the Power that Powe plays with or the defense that Baby can provide.

if we couldnt get House i was in favor of West. now its pretty much a waste as long as Eddies in town, both being 1/2's and all

The 10 -12 mpg at SF we are talking about go to Allen and Powe. Pierce will not slide to SG as much and we may see line up with KG and Powe and another big.
I think that Giddens not being signed is a big deal. Boston was trying to move that pick and it was reported we were going to use it on Erden if we couldn't. I think Ainge took the two players he wanted in the second round hoping to have flexibility with them as far as not signing them this season. I think Giddens is actually the player they view as as second round flyer who has a two year guaranteed contract if they sign him. With the tax he is going to cost Boston 1.6 mil this season and may be hindrance in staying under next year.
Bartelstein smelled the rat and held his kid out of the FA camp now the question is when Ainge isn't willing to sign him before training camp what does Bartelstein do? Does he force Boston to waive him and try and catch on with all the rosters loaded for camp and him missing out on all the Summer league play? Or at that point does he tell his kid to try and make the team.
My guess is that Ainge is waiting to see if a better player is available in FA. He will likely only go with 14 so he has an open roster spot for a mid season pick up. If nothing else happens he might make the commitment to Giddens but with Tony and House back Boston has 5 players at the guard spot and 12 players under contract. If he brings in another player in FA then either Giddens or Walker are not making this team and seeing how Walker is going to cost half as much money and perhaps not even be guaranteed it might make that picture a little clearer.

I think he can be traded anytime because he hasn't signed a contract yet...but I highly doubt we trade Giddens. Danny hasn't signed Giddens/Walker yet becuase he wanted to see how free agency shakes out. Now that we are pretty much set entering the season, I wouldn't be surprised if an announcement is made by the end of the week(before DA goes to vacation) that Giddens and Walker have been signed to contracts.

I don't think that CLE has any intentions of letting Delonte leave, right now they have him for 2.7 mil and they will likely match any offer below the MLE for him, the only other pg they have is Gibson.
Now Gomes situation is far different. He has value but the situation in MINN is pretty desperate for him I forgot all about Mike Miller. I don't think that MINN would match on Gomes for almost anything because they may not have any mins for him, as they will have to play Miller and Love on top of Brewer, Carney, and Smith.
Now there should probably be a rule forbidding Madsen, Cardinal, and Scalabrine from being on the same team. There is actually a senario that makes some sense.
Scal and the rights to JR Giddens to MINN for Gomes at 4 mil a season for two years isn't ridiculous. Maybe Boston kicks in a future protected first or a 2nd and maybe even the 3 mil in cash.
It looks like MINN is going to keep Telfair but the only real SG they have is McCants figuring that Miller and Brewer are the SF and they also have Carney. So Giddens could possibly get some mins. It is kind of pipe dream but stranger crap has happened, the hard part is them swallowing two years of Scal.

I've never been high on Delonte, but I think he'd fit really well here now actually. Ideally we'd want someone who hits open shots, can bring the ball up the court, and play solid defense backing up Rondo. House is a pretty good fit (and I'm very happy that he's back), but Delonte would be an ideal backup PG for this team in my opinion....that's assuming it's the Boston/Cleveland Delonte, and not the Seattle one.

Right there draft rights can be traded at anytime. Now as for signing them if he waited this long he isn't signing anyone until training camp starts now what is the point?

Gomes and West will want more money then we have to offer - we only have half the MLE left and that's not a heck of alot in these guys minds. I am okay with it - very overrated players. We won a championship without them.

Interesting post GG, but I actually don't recall Delonte being all that consistent with knocking down open shots.
Very streaky, from what I've seen of him even in Cleveland, let alone when he was here: either on or
way off.

I like Sully's idea of a Scal & Giddens for a s&t Gomes deal. then we can use that half the MLE/roster spot to further solidify the end of the bench.

We don't nee West because we resigned House. Rondo should play about 35 minutes per game this year. That leaves only 13 more at the PG position. House is perfect for that. West would want more money and more minutes than we can give him.
I like Gomes alot and people are forgeting that he is a SF now. But Gomes wants more than $3 million per year and if he is smart he will go overseas and get a lot more money like Childress did.

West and Gomes should go to Europe if there a re not decent offers. Gomes would be a perfect fit for Euroleague basketball. He could definitely get a better offer in Europe than in the NBA...

Not only is Delonte streaky..he would go through cold spells and pass up open shots. This something House does - cold or not. If that wasn't enough he is pretty lousy at bringing the ball up the court. House is a cheaper and in some ways better version of Delonte.

Listen, Giddens is not being traded. He's in the fold. Danny's policy is to wait until mid-August to sign his picks. Pruitt and Big Baby were signed mid-August last year (about 6 weeks after Brandon Wallace, btw). Don't try to read too much into it. He's got to resign the assistant coaches, work out Doc's extension, and go on vacation. Then the draft picks, and the decision whether Bill Walker is asked to play overseas. Then maybe we pick up another SF if Walker is in Europe; if not, maybe pick up a center mid-season.
One thing that's not going to happen is a sign-and-trade for Gomes. Why do that? We already have 2 undersized small forwards, why make it three and further our luxury tax hit? The roster is set, the top 9 have been determined. TA, Giddens, and occasionally Scal (as much as it pains me) will be getting those precious 12 minutes at the 3 every night.
And, God, let's not start the Delonte debate again. Streak shooter, injury prone, decent combo guard. But there's no place for him on this team as it's currently constituted! If we want to bring back any ex-Cs, we should be talking about a training camp invite to Brandon Wallace or Justin Reed. At least they'd fill a need and we wouldn't have to overpay for the luxury of having them.

this question has probably been answered somewhere, but if someone knows i am curious...
if RFAs like Gomes and West play in Europe.....or i guess Childress because he is going there....when they come back are they still RFAs or are they now UFAs....?
