Doc Wanted Tony Allen Back

Post#1 » by return2glory » Sun Jul 27, 2008 8:56 pm

I just read this. It's a good article on TA. I'm glad the knee is getting better and that it was mainly a mental thing. I was also right when I mentioned TA had taken off the that huge knee brace in the Finals. It was kind a hard to tell on T.V. because he was still wearing a black knee sleeve.

http://www.milforddailynews.com/sports/ ... down-again

"As frustrating as the Tony Allen Experience may have been for Rivers last season, Celtics executive director of basketball operations Danny Ainge said this week it was the coach who most pushed for Allen's return after the team made him an unrestricted free agent when it did not exercise his qualifying option on June 30."

I'm glad Doc still believes in TA. So do I. I hope he can stay healthy and have the best year of the career.

Tony is a solid contributer at about 20-25 minutes per game. The presence of Posey last year really cut into all of his possible playing time. By the look of it, if we sign a 3 man, it won't be someone that commands more than 15-20 mins a game. Tony will get his time.

Pros-
- can get by his man
- can finish/establish contact
- can defend the perimeter
- likes to win

Cons-
- sometimes stagnates offense
- may overdribble
- spotty bbbiq

Even if we resigned Posey, Doc said that he wanted House and Tony back.

I'm glad Tony will be getting increased minutes. I wasn't happy in the playoffs when he and Eddy didn't get much playing time, especially against Atlanta (the athleticism we could have used).

I wanted Tony Allen back, I love how he's the only 04 Draft Celtic that has a ring.

the article coincides with that final game. he really got up for that nice reverse ally-oop.

healthy, TA is one hell of a player.
people seem to forget how good he was 2 years ago. during our horrible season, when he was in the starting lineup we were acually winning games until he got hurt. he was our go-to guy even with jefferson on the floor.

I don't think it was so much Posey's presence that cut into TA's minutes last year. That had a part to do with it, but TA cost himself minutes. He wasn't healthy and also struggles mentally while trying to come back from 2 knee injuries.

Same here. Let's pray that we won't be getting a cancer like Cassell this year.
