No he's not, that's pretty close to market for a big man of his skills. 12 mil. a year is about what I expected him to get. And besides, I think with Larry Brown coaching his skills will be better utilized.

Yeah I agree it's fair. IMO he's their second best player. I thought the deal was closer to $11 mil a year though. 6 year $65mil right?

Okafor is not overpaid. 6 year 72 M is a pretty fair price. He got less than ALJefferson per year (but longer contract).

For reference, DHoward is 5 year 80 M. ALJefferson is 5 year 65M.

I think under Larry Brown they will get good return on that deal, I think Okafor is still very capable of being a 17-18 PPG, 11 RPG, 2.5 BPG guy and a defensive anchor. If you think Doc Rivers didn't know how to use Al Jefferson correctly then you'd have burned Sam Vincent and Bernie Bickerstaff alive for how they used Okafor.

Even with that poor coaching, poor PG play and being stuck on an expansion team from day one he has managed to average 14.3 PPG, 10.8 RPG, 2 BPG and a 17.6 PER on 50% shooting (has been at 53% the last two years) and is outside of Gerald Wallace he has been the only good defensive player on those rosters.

Even then Gerald Wallace hasn't been much help on defense because he has mostly played out of position at PF leaving Okafor basically to go 1vs2 in the paint against PF's and C's. I honestly believe that if the Bobcats would just give him a solid PF to play with he'd be a dominant defender.

I would directly compare him to Alonzo Mourning who was always a great defender but it went largely to waste in his early days for the Charlotte Hornets playing with a 6'5 Larry Johnson at PF and one of the poorest defensive teams around him you could dream of with Hersey hawkins, Dell Curry, Rex Chapman and Mugsy Bouges on the outside.

Then Alonzo Mourning gets sent to the Heat and got to play with a young PJ Brown and all of a sudden he is the backbone of perhaps the best defensive team of that era simply because he no longer had to play 1vs2 in the paint defensively.

He is foolish, he was offered 13 million before the season started, now he is getting 12.

What is $5million when you are coulding be talking extra $25million? Not much, I think it all comes to tha stupid deal that Rashard Lewis got. That made these guys think a little different. As in if he can get it why cant I, type thing.

It is a fair deal, IMO. Good 7 footers don`t come cheaper than that.

I don't know how he can live with himself, having to go through the humiliation of existing on a mere 12M/yr.

Let's all have moment of silence to pray that his family does not have to suffer like Latrell's did.

THat's a fair deal. It's not overpaying for a guy who can be a defensive anchor and give you 17ppg in the low post. He's no Dwight Howard but he isn't paid like DH either.

Well he expected to get 15+ million, and he got less than he was originally offered.

Exactly. I think if anything, Bobcats got a decent deal. Okafor is a defensive monster and cleans the boards. He can also hold his own on offense in the post.

and by the way emeka is 6' 10' on his best day...probably an official 6'9' but he has long arms which make up for his height...

Okafor is a beast but has battled numerous injuries...he could be a top defender in the NBA no question...Well worth what they paid to get him

He basically got the exact same deal that Bogut got and Sammy Dalembert signed a few years ago and I'd easily take Mek over both of those guys.

To be honest I'm surprised an expansion team like the Bobcats have been able to resign guys like Gerald Wallace and Okafor to such reasonable deals.

Okafor, Deng, Gordon and Iguodala are all retards for not accepting the deals before the beginning of the season. But what can you expect from people like that? Not much.

especially Okafor - apparently he's some high IQ genius - i heard he aced a university final without ever going to the class! so i guess books smarts don't help you in commonsense. he's not a 20/10 guy so why ask for that type of money? does he share an agent with AROD? but gordon might be the the biggest (Please Use More Appropriate Word) of all of them when comparing his talent to the rest of the guys.

Okafor's gettin' paid!! This doesn't help the Hawks in negotiations with Smith, who IMO is a far superior player.

If they are comfortable with Emeka's back/assorted injuries, then I don't see it as a bad deal. That's the going rate for a quality 6-10+ player- look at Dalembert/Jefferson/Bogut most recently. And given how Okafor is a much more well-rounded player than any of those three (Dalembert = no offense, Al/Bogut = no D), I can understand why Charlotte would sign that deal.

The real problem that Charlotte still faces is that they don't have a real bench, nor do they have a star scorer. I just don't think a trio of J-Rich/Wallace/Okafor can take you to the promised land. They either need to develop a great team defense, a la Houston/Detroit, and/or hope that Brandan Wright becomes that missing piece.

Seems in line with what he should receive. He's a small risk with injuries but is a very good defender and rebounder.

Wow just think next year PHIL is going to have Brand who is an injury free Okafor with offense. But people said Brand was overpaid at 16 mil a year too so whatevs.
