So the guy isn't an all-star, isn't a PG, isn't a big, and isn't a franchise-calibur talent. He's not a great shooter or slasher to boot. I'm not understanding the logic here.

I make 3,000,000 yen a year. Before you get too excited, that's like saying I make 3,000,000 cents.

I'd love to be overpaid. What exactly did Deng do last year to deserve that kind of cash?

What? No. You can't just say he's overpaid when equivalent players are making the same, or even more in some cases.

What should Deng make in a world where Emeka Okafor makes 12 million a year, Brian Scalabrine makes 3 million a year, Elton Brand gets 82.2 million after coming off an achilles injury, etc, etc?

Yes, I'm a Deng fanboy. He'll be 23 all of next season. I'd be thrilled if I could sign someone of Deng's potential to a 6 year deal.

deng is severely overated and overpaid

Deng is by far the best player on the Bulls. That isn't even a max deal. He's not overpaid. The problem is that they need someone another step up from Deng to compete. Deng is only a Pippen.

To everyone who says he's overpaid: how much should he make in your arbitrary universe of NBA contracts?

I am but thats the reason I went to law school, to be overpaid.


AS for Deng he is a classic 10 million a year guy, great 2nd option not going to lead your team to the promised land without ALOT of help. 17 6 and 2, the guy has never averaged 20 points a game for gods sake. 18 and 7.7 was his best season worth 10 million, a season overpaid by 20 million over the course of the contract.

They're paying him for what he will be, not what he's just been. Woulda thought this was obvious.

That's pretty backwards logic, to say the least. All that does is give the players a false sense of entitlement based on their perceived upside. I actually think Deng's a good player, but his limitations have a tendency to be obscured by the terms "length", "upside", and "potential".
