Giddy Giddens interview

At the 2008 Rookie Photo Shoot in Tarrytown, N.Y. on July 30, Giddens' energy was infectious. He never stopped smiling, and couldn't travel from point A to point B without kicking a move from an apparently endless supply of dance steps, all in time to the pulsing, window-rattling hip-hop bass beats spun by the house DJ...
NBA.com: That’s got to be exciting joining the champs. What are you looking forward to about being a part of that squad?
J.R. Giddens: Just learning from all those guys. They’re world champions, and obviously, the organization’s top of the line, with them accomplishing what they did. Just trying to be a sponge, soak up everything. Paul Pierce and Ray Allen are great guards, and I play guard, so I’m trying to learn from those guys, KG, Doc and just make myself the best basketball player. That’s what the dream is.
NBA.com: What are you looking forward to most about starting your first NBA season?
J.R. Giddens: I don’t know what to look forward to. I’m a kid in a candy store, and I have a BAD sweet tooth. So I don’t know where to run, I don’t know what to do. I just know wherever the path chooses for me to go, I’m gonna try to stay on it.

My favorite quote from Giddens was when he was asked what move he's working on this offseason:
"The defensive slide"
Kid seems to got his head on straight. I know he's a bit old at 23, but his athleticism and talent is through the roof. I don't think he'll ever be a go-to scorer. But he's definitely a do-it-all kind of player, perhaps a lesser-man's Luol Deng.

I really wonder where he would have gone if he hadn't had the off the court issues. From everything I've read he seems to have matured a lot, making no excuses for his mistakes. Playing with Paul, Ray, and KG should be good for him as well. Between Paul, Tony, and Giddens we've got a collection of off the court scars that rivals Denvers collection of tattoos.

The difference with the issues that Paul, Tony, Giddens had, is they have seemingly put them behind them and not repeated the same mistakes. Unlike guys like JR Smith, who just repeat the same mistakes over and over again.
This is a geat interview by Giddens, I think he's going to be an asset to the Celtics, on and off the court.

That's a great interview. He seems to have his head on straight. And trust me, that's the only thing holding him back. He's too solid, too athletic not to be a rotation player next year. If he honestly puts in the effort and does all the stuff he says in the interview, the sky's the limit for this kid.

I do hope he realizes Pierce is a forward and not a guard. Otherwise, a good interview.

Pierce a foward and not a guard is a technicallity more then anything.
Pierce came in this league as a guard, and bulked up to the point where he is now a foward soley. But that didn't stop him from guarding the "best guard in the NBA" in Kobe pretty damn well.
Pierce rookie and sophmore years of experience as a guard can help the kid out, god knowes we need some more penetration and that Tony Allen can't be counted all for 82 games a year.

i dont really look at him as old though, i just see him more in a ryan gomes category than some of our other draft picks, in terms of basketball experience
id like to see the contract get done
