A little late, but....
I really like the Patrick O'Bryant signing. Clifford Ray is going to do wonders with the kid. Perfect atmosphere for him. No pressure whatsoever. Learning how to play team defense beside KG as well as Kendrick Perkins is going to make him a valuable back-up. Very nice. A lot of people are probably "eh" on the signing, but trust me. He's going to surprise a lot of people on this board. Don't know where the old thread of this news is, because I was fighting fires in Cali for a month straight and just started to catch up on the news. But I just wanted to put my two cents in on the signing and let everyone on this board know that is was a quiet signing but will go down as one of the more pleasant signings of the summer. Me likes, yes.

If we can pick up someone who even sees the floor like we have POB, I'm happy.

I like the O'Bryant signing too, as well as the Giddens/Walker picks. All three are examples of low-risk/solid-reward pick-ups. Last year the Celts went with vets at back-up PG and swing-man, but they went with two unproven youngsters as back-up big men. I suppose the hope was that either Powe or Baby would pan out, and in the end both of them proved to be useful.
I see the Giddens/Walker and O'Bryant moves as similar...the Celts have championship-proven vets at back-up PG, SG, and PF. Since it would be acceptable to go with an 8-9 man rotation in the playoffs anyway, there is little down-side to trying out Giddens/Walker and Bryant in the young talent role, and hope that one or more of them come through like Powe and Baby. This is a good way to maintain the team at a high level as the vets get older.

Magee-
Welcome back from battling the inferno.
I'm with you on this O'Bryant signing. I think he's going to surprise a lot of people on this board, because I've heard some pretty pessimistic sentiments expressed about his potential, or lack thereof. I was hoping we'd take the kid when he first came out of college, so I'm happy to have him after two more years of being able to fill out his frame, and practice against pros. This kid has skills, and there's no question about the length. I can't wait until training camp!

Re: A little late, but....
I liked O'Bryant in the draft as well. You had to know it was going to take a 2 years or so, apparently GS didn't. I think the draft he was in hurt him he isn't a lottery pick type player, but not a second rounder either he has a chance to be a lot like Brandon Haywood.
At worst he should be the catch and dunk guy that this team has been missing. Especially in the playoffs were teams are going to take the foul you need guys with the size and strength to just catch it and dunk it. With the offensive talent this team has they are going to leave the big lug in the middle open especially as Rondo improves, that guy has to be able to finish strong and I think O'Bryant can be that guy.

I know this isn't basketball related but I could not help but think of magee and this thread when I saw the news of that copter going down. My thoughts and prayers go to you and everyone out west how are putting their lives on the line to save others and I would appreciate if you could pass along any info on how to help the families of those fire fighters.
