Pierce's Boasting

Post#1 » by LongTimeFan » Mon Aug 11, 2008 10:53 am

I just want to get on the record. I think Pierce is the greatest offensive threat the Celtics have ever had. I certainly thought he was the best player in the finals.

But the boasting is probably a bad sign on two counts. The first is that there is no "I" in team or unbuntu. It seems like his boasting is kind of putting down Garnett and Allen. The other issue is it's going to rile up our opponents. There going to be coming for us already. There's no need to piss them off.

It is summer. Pierce is just enjoying himself. Once training camp comes around, things will return to normal. Anyways, it is not Pierce boasting, it is the media making it look that way. People are overreacting a bit too much about Pierce and his offseason activities.

Canman's got this one covered. The media specializes in taking comments out of context to make a story out of nothing, it's one of the reasons I despise them.

I wouldn't worry about our opponents bringing their "A game" because of his comments. Last year everyone wanted to beat us to silence the hype...

I don't mind the boasting, he's earned it and he's having fun. ATL, CLE, DET, and the Fakers all brought their A-game against us last year, and we took em all out. So I'm not worried about teams bringing their A game. Let em.

I just hope Pierce is more mature than when he boasted against NJ a few years back that nobody could guard him, and then went on to put up some stinkers. Hopefully he doesn't let his own smack affect him. I think he is more mature though, and he's just going to go out and be the same PP as always next year.

Claiming he's the best player in the world (without a hint of facetiousness) and carrying the Finals MVP trophy everywhere isn't Pierce's fault, nor the media's, but our fault: we choose to watch and to listen, and if it wasn't for us, Pierce wouldn't consider himself a God amongst mortals

Who cares if he thinks he's a "God amongst mortals"? He is a Celtic and he was the finals MVP. As far as I'm concerned, he is a God! Long live Paul Pierce! Keep slapping Kobe around like your little bitch. You are the best player in the league, you will probably win some more rings. So flaunt it like you've never had it before. Go out and show everyone what a Player you are because you brought back a banner to Boston.

I would do the same thing PP is doing. To everybody who talked bull nonsense about me and my team all these years. How do you like me & us now. I'd be telling everybody just like PP is. I'm on top of the rock and I ain't coming down. If you think I don't know how act do something about it. Because I'm going to be talkin smack not knowing how to act and loving every second of it for as long as we are champs.

I don't blame the press or worry about other teams coming at him. But I do think he's used the Finals MVP award to blow apart the Ubuntu thing. Sure, the other 4 guys make up his 'favorite 5', but there's no more deference to his fellow All-Star teammates and so much for his leadership in establishing a team focus among the younger players. Takeaway message: people aren't too different at 31 than they are at 24 or 26 or 28. Class is class from the Little League on up and Pierce isn't the best of role models.

Why shouldn't the NBA champion and the Finals MVP boast a little? I think he's earned that.
