who is a good replacement for posey??

Post#1 » by celticfanreseda » Wed Aug 13, 2008 11:55 pm

2 new draft picks ofcourse. O'bryant signing which was ok since he was so cheap. he might pan out as a good back up C. Still, no sign of a wingman to replace pose. is danny even planning on replacing him or will he just wing it and see what happens midway through, which im afraid is what hes going to do. Then probably sign some vet ala sam i am.

***oh i made a post last off season, question is how do i dig it up??? Theres money on the line. help me out fellas or is it impossible?****

Cavs will give you sasha pavs for Powe

sasha is a great defender and hits the open 3's like posey.

First of all, salaries don't match.

Second of all, Sasha's deal is a year too long for the C's to take (3 years remaining).

Third of all, even if you took Scalabrine back in the deal (which you would have to do to make it work), I don't think the team would be interested because Sasha can only play the 2 or 3. With Pierce, Allen and Allen already taking care of that for the Celtics, there would be no playing time for one of the four players. The reason Posey was so valuable was because he could steal minutes at the four. Sasha can't.

No go.

Our guys torched Sasha in the playoffs, no way I want to see him guarding the teams best players come playoff time.

For FAs, Devean George is probably the closest...

Big SF
Smart player
Gets on the boards
Hustles
Defers offensively
Not the athlete he used to be, but still has some athleticism
3PT threat
Relatively clutch
Experienced champion
Can guard bigger wing players
Can post defend
Fine (or better) team defender

Not sure how he is on guarding quicker wings with a lot of movement, I'd guess nothing much anymore.

On a side note, he was very impressive in helping shut down Amare Stoudemire in the 4th qtr at Phoenix in March last season.

No deal. open upthe next suitcase. sasha for powe. salaries or not, powe was valuable for the cees in the playoffs and ofcourse game 2. Just ask phil j. bet you he knows how to say his name prorperly now. Powe is too great of a glue guy plus theres room for one more signing and that's the way DA will go to find a replacement. Not via trade.

George was a good option but is that really all that's available.

How about J. howard. He will be like a pj brown type player but not sure if he can replace what posey did.

To be fair, Sasha got some extremely erratic playing time throughout the series and was coming off an injury, not unlike our own Tony Allen. But since we do have TA, I find Sasha pretty redundant, especially when you consider Allen is cheaper with (IMO) as much or more upside.

The reality is nobody is going to replace James Posey. There are an extreme few players who can guard the 3, 4, and occasionally the 2, as well as hit the 3 with such regularity. There's also NOBODY who is going to provide that in-lockerroom presence James gave this team. However, having got over the hump, I am not so sure we need that 'veteran leader' type now, since our team has now all reached the pinnacle and know what it takes to get back.

On the court, Allen is a more complete offensive player and a better 1v1 defender at 2 and 3 (obviously he can't guard the 4). We will be a bit less flexible to go small and spread the floor with 3 point shooters, but we should be better in the halfcourt if Allen can stay healthy and give us another slasher.

It's not about replacing players we lost, it's about the team concept adapting to the personnel we have, and some guys like Powe and TA taking on a larger role. I'd feel better if we had another option to defend guys like LeBron, Tayshaun, Rashard Lewis, the bigger sf's, but the off-season isn't over yet and even if we just go with what we have every 12 man roster is going to have some weaknesses, if that is our biggest problem we should be fine. Either way team defense is what get's it done, and we've got some good team defenders in Pierce, Garnett, Perk, and TA, I've got high hopes for Giddens also.

Pat Riley didn't think the heat needed Posey ither..

Honestly, we lost Poz and I don't think he will ever be replaceable for a Min. contract.

Though, his numbers don't show what he truly brings to the court, I honestly feel he was worth every penny. Poz may indeed be a force to recon with in the west. While I also hope, and pray that we don't meet the NoHornets in the finals I wish the best to Poz.

We all give credit to KG for his passion and fire and killer instinct to win, but Posey's instinct is just as strong as KG's and this guy is a winner. He's been a winner all his career, and he plays his heart out just like KG. Replacing him is impossible, and even if this guy isn't the most skilled basketball player, he does all the dirty work. The closest person we could have picked up at min contract was Matt Barnes, but he's gone too (he could play anywhere from 2-4, excellent wing / post defender, can knock down the 3). The next best options are Gerald Wallace and Shawn Marion, and those are impossible for us because they aren't role players and get payed TOO much.

More minutes for TA, House and Powe should be able to replace Posey.

Atlanta's youth and athleticism nearly killed us. Posey was almost a no-show. I hope the draft picks will upgrade that need.

Yeah, I really wanted the C's to resign Posey, but now that he's gone, I don't think we need to get someone to replace him. We have enough guys to fill the hole, starting with TA.

He's been replaced...the team will look to up the minutes of Powe and TA, both players are better offensively and each is better at defending their position 1-to-1...Powe and TA are both good at picking up charges, as was Posey...the only thing not covered by them is perimeter shooting, and that's fine by me...the team needs to attack the basket more than they did last year, that's what Powe and TA are all about...

As far as perimeter shooting goes: KG/Pierce/Allen/House all space the floor. KG/Perk/Powe provide interior play. Pierce/TA provide slashing ability. All the starting 5 are playmakers...

I see little issue here...worst case scenario is TA can't provide adequate play at the 2/3 and the team is forced to see what Giddens and Walker can do...if they aren't doing it either, the team picks up a vet...we've still got Pierce and Allen, so its a matter of keeping minutes down...the team isn't going to lost too many games in the 15 minutes at the 3.

Hell, the team can simply play Eddie House more at the 2 and slide Ray to the 3 as the "backup" if all goes completely wrong...Pierce/Allen/House can man a 3 wing rotation in a pinch...it may not be the IDEAL situation, but they'll be strong offensively and pretty solid defensively for 75% of the game...15 minutes of Allen at the 3 and House at the 2 isn't going to make or break the season--and this is IF, IF TA, Giddens, Walker all get a crack and can't solidify an extremely limited backup role requiring defense and intelligent decision making...

I vote this "back up 3" concern to be the most overblown issue of the off-season...

I think a lot of people are forgetting Poseys intangibles which I think was his biggest contribution. He was Clutch. He hit more back breaking shots than any other C's besides Paul P. He come up huge when the moment counted. His stats be damned and he was a chemist in team chemistry. The guys loved him. Posey willl be missed.

Powe getting the additional minutes he's earned -- and been patiently waiting for -- will definitely be an upgrade over Posey at PF. The only real question is if TA is healthy; if yes, he'll be better than Posey was, even playing out of position for the 8-12 minutes he'd be at SF. So basically if we assume TA is healthy, Posey is not only replaced, but upgraded. If TA isn't healthy, then Giddens will get a shot. If he doesn't pan out, then we grab a back-up wing at the deadline.
