Exactly, now sign Bill Walker (don't ship him to Europe)

I know, I'm glad DA finally got it done. Now Walker needs to get a deal and we sign a vet swing man and we're done.

Its team...this is a standard rookie deal, where 2 years are guarenteed and there are 2 individual team options..I don't know why they wrote it all confusing like that..

Damn, now that we won't have the wackos saying that Giddens wouldn't be signed for some reason, the summer just got that much slower.

oh well, i guess it's back to trying to get a Posey clone because after all having a Posey is the only possible way to win a championship.

Vegas was giving one-to-one and a half odds on us signing Giddens, I bet a million and got back 750K. Not sure what the worry was all about.

That's arguably the biggest news of our offseason: we signed a rookie we drafted.

Damn, this has been a REALLY slow offseason. Glad it finally happened, though.

Has he been practicing with the guys at Waltham? Because he was told by his agent to go back home when they started contract discussions, but I don't know if he returned in the past months? Can't wait for preseason ball to see what the rooks can bring to the table!

Yeah the biggest thing is that he can start getting some practice time in at the Celtic's facility with the coaching staff. Bill Walker has been practicing there since around draft day, so there' s no rush to sign him.

Looks like Giddens had offers from Europe -- I wonder if Walker is getting any. Hopefully, Danny acts quick and puts this issue to rest.

The 30th pick in the first round of this year's NBA draft also was receiving interest from teams in Italy, Greece, and Eastern Europe.

"I didn't want to go overseas," Giddens said in a telephone interview. "I'm in the right spot. Just because they wanted to sign me didn't mean I wanted to play [overseas]. That wasn't in my mind-set."

While yes I am a wacko I was not wacko on this. There is a reason this kid was not signed yet and not working out in Waltham, and listening to offers from overseas. To think otherwise is to ignore the obvious. Whether they were looking to use his rights in a deal or not sign him I don't know but something was clearly up.

Walker's situation is different unless the C's use the remaining MLE money to sign him to a 3 year deal, he will likely be signed to minimum non guaranteed contract so signing him is far less important as far as it relates to him working out he isn't risking any guaranteed money he has to make the team to get paid.

...most 2nd round picks who get contracts get guarenteed deals...the deals may hold performance marks or annual team options, but they are typically guarenteed...

The team has no obligation to offer him anything but a non guaranteed minimum contract, while I am sure there are minimal guarantees for camp and such if he choses not to sign the deal then Boston would continue to hold his rights. Similiar to Demetrius Nichols in NY two years ago.

I imagine that Boston has all the intentions in the world of signing Walker and to a 3 year deal. He is a first round talent and maybe better than that at a 2nd round price, but they have very limited financial obligations to him.

I don't think that Boston was thinking about just cutting Giddens but if Finley had chose to come to Boston I think they would have tried to find someone to take his draft rights for a future pick. I may end up being wrong about this but I don't think Giddens is here for what he will be 2 or 3 years from now but what he might be able to do on the court right now in a limited role.

Well who knowes. Maybe Giddens can do what Tony Allen did his rookie season. Not a real impact player but in limited minutes some good defense and some energy athletic plays like offense rebounds. That'd be fantastic.
