its great to be on top of the world again.

during the nba season- kobe the rapist- i hate you, but tonight you were representing our country proud. thank you for taking over the game. yes sirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! and to win against those turd Spaniards? even better......

that was a dirtya$$ game by Spain. Watch the last play of the first half. DWade takes a three and #14 hip checks him after the shot and then tries a Bruce Bowen leg sweep - no call. Carmelo almost got pushed into the third row by MGasol (future big stiff in NBA) on a rebound - no call. And how bout the technical which wasn't called on the ESP bench when they practically assaulted the ref after they thought Kobe traveled on a breakaway (which wasn't even close)
How can they have the best players in the world being reffed by a guy from FINLAND! FINLAND for c-sakes. Thats like having the hockey final reffed by a Jamaican. When has this guy even been in a game with that kind of competition?

The replay is already on right now on USA. It is now in the 2nd quarter. I wouldn't be surprised to see it played several more times. I wonder if NBA TV will have it soon.

it was really quite amazing how much dirty play that those turd spaniards were allowed to get away with. the only player that seemed to respond on our squad was dwight howard (his only redeeming quality, otherwise he completely sucked)). While I don't condone any violence, next time, i hope we carry a couple of enforcer types that will keep those turd spaniards in their place (i.e. artest, or maybe even our own kendrick perkins)

Carl Jungebrand, the Finnish ref, has been refereeing games in World Championships in 1990, 1994 and 2006 (he refereed in the final), in Olympics in 88, 96, 2000 and 2008 (he also refereed in the USA vs China group stage game) and in six European Championships including three finals. I'm glad I could answer your question. I'm not quite sure he was the worst referee in the final.

um... considering 15 out of 450 nba players have the chance to win the championship each year.... a gold medal is definitely the next best thing... and worth a whole lot.

unless you win an mvp trophy... but thats usually reserved to players that are in the top 50 of all time.

I need to watch it but obviously it was apretty close game. One thing that has hurt the US in the past is that other teams shoot better than we do. I still think that we don't empacize shooting enough in developing young players.

I'm glad we won the gold as an American, but am I the only one who just doesn't really give a crap otherwise? Maybe it's cos I don't like most of the players on the team, I dunno, but I certainly didn't get all worked up like a lot of people did...

So the world now understands we are the greatest again. What happened in in the past was an a blip in the radar. I still say the Celtics would have crushed spain. i do mean crushed them by at least average of 25 in the 2 meetings. What does that tell you. We are just nasty.

Was there a doubt that we were going to win? The US team got overconfident in 2004 and took the competition too lightly, but as long as we take it seriously, we should be winning gold every Olympics.

And I can see how P2 could root against the US men's basketball team. I didn't in this Olympics, but there was a time when I wanted them to lose while the Women's team to win. Just to put them in their place. I didn't like how the Men's basketball team was acting like they are better than everyone else, including the rest of the US Olympic team. I found it to be pretty classless to try and big-time the other US Olympians, just because they make more money than some of the participants in less-popular events.

Sorry to have offended your delicate Finnish sensibilities.
That doesn't make him a good ref or provide him with a necessary level of experience of having players at this level. He probably got all those gigs because he is from a neutral country which does not have an interest in high level basketball. My point is exactly what you outlined: you have people reffing these games who do this on a very irregular basis and not with players at this level.

He stood there and watched a ESP player hipcheck DWADE and then leg sweep the guy and he swallowed his friggin whistle. I don't care what his resume says, he sucked and the officiating in general sucked during this tournament. You want to tell me now what a nice guy he is and how many referee classes he took to get his degree in refology?
