I'm curious to know what will be the Warriors take on this. I think they've a legitimate argument here. How similar is too similar? Still, It'll be interesting to see what OKC decides on for their mascot and their alternative logo. What other ways can you represent thunder as a mascot. I don't think the mascot will be named Thunder, obviously. It could be named Boom or Clash or something. I think the Warriors origination will take a wait and see approach. They can't cry foul until they see the mascot and its' name first. Nothing may even come of this.
Thunder is synonymous with lightning as in: Thunder and lightning. So, the marketing departments of both franchises could've some fun whenever the two teams meet during the regular season. Perhaps, a rivalry will born.
Today is the day that the Oklahoma City franchise unveils their colors, logo and team name. A big day for Oklahoma City as they take the next step toward moving the franchise from Seattle to their new haunts. It isn't much of a secret that the team will more than likely be called the Thunder as there have been leaks to that effect for weeks. This may not sit well with the Golden State Warriors whose official NBA mascot is named Thunder and their logo features Thunder holding a lightning bolt. It will be interesting to see if the Warriors file a complaint since the OKC team has in effect, stolen their Thunder.

The reasoning behind it all makes sense. Perhaps, this is all just a coincidence and the writer of the article is speaking speculatively.
"We think the logo is classic in its style," said team chairman Clay Bennett. "We think it's powerful in its design. We think it evokes energy. We think the word Thunder is displayed with simplicity and dignity. And the colors represent much about Oklahoma.
"Our primary color blue is the color of our state flag. This is very much an Oklahoma organization. The sunset is red and orange. Not too red. Not too orange. And the beautiful sun is reflected by yellow."
