What's our 2 for 1 if Cassel signs and Miles makes the team?
Can we sign Cassel as a coach now and then a player later in the season?

You have to figuire Scal is in for cap reasons. But what prospect can you package with him? It seems to me the only one whose value is high right now is Powe. And I simply hate to see him go.

Pruitt has no value to speak of. Baby has some value. Everyone else is either a big question mark, or a starter.

Lol - can I choose Scalabrine and Cassell for (insert any player here, or $5 of old towels and practice balls)?

I have a hard time thinking that any of the kids would have a higher value to another team than to the Celtics. Pruitt, Davis, POB, Giddens, Walker don't have much value IMO, except to the Celtics. Powe I believe fills our backup role, as does TA. House - why sign House knowing all along that Cassell was available? Moving him to make room for Cassell doesn't make sense. We could always not sign Miles of course.

I'm a bit stumped as to who we'd want to move in addition to Scal frankly, and I'm not sure how we'd move him except to add a bunch of money for the other team to buy him out. So I think the logical move would be to buy out Scal, and be done with it.

That makes so much sense, yet it seems unlikely the team will go in that direction. But that's what I would do.

This one stumps me also, but "if" Sam is going to be signed then I imagine that Danny has some sort of plan in place. Here's a thought, "if" he is bothering to sign Sam at all maybe Pruitt doesn't have much of a future here. None of us has seen much other than a few garbage time appearances, so who knows.

hmm, anyone know the date we can trade draft picks/fa signings?? that might have something to do with cASSell saying next week.

Why do people think the Cs have to buyout Scal. They can just cut him, pay him the full amount and get the same production from him while using his roster spot for a useful player.

There are 5 teams with trade exceptions that could use another PG and could simply accept Gabe Pruitt without sending a player back, just a second round pick. Maybe even Chicago ($5 million plus trade exception) with Ben Gordon threatening to hold out or sign overseas.

And Glen Davis, as a minimum salary player, can be traded to any team without the Celtics having to take a player back. Davis might be worth a second round pick AND some cash, or maybe just $1.25 million cash outright.

It has to be a small guy to go. Some people are talking about dumping Miles but he at least has some size..

Well Miles still has to make the squad first. We're still talking about a non-guaranteed player here with only a 2-month tryout. So Miles is logically the first candidate regardless of what we may think of him. However should Miles make the team the next logical bet would be our incumbent bench PFs, Powe and Davis. Both are up at the end of this year so they could be cut with minimal issue. Powe is likely the only one that has some trade value coming off his success in the Finals last year. But at this point I'm betting the best they could get for him anyway is a 2nd rnd pick.

All this said, there are 2 big reasons I'm not buying Cassell right now:

1) Danny hasn't commented on Cassell since the end of the season and hasn't shown any inclination he's looking to bring him back. All I hear is Sam doing all the talking and running his mouth which hasn't changed since he came into the league.

2)They resigned Eddie to a 2 year deal and I simply cannot imagine Eddie would've resigned unless Doc gave him some kind of assurance that he wouldn't be completely banished to the end of the bench again like he was in the playoffs. Eddie had better offers out there but he chose to stay here cuz he likes it here.

He moved Raef's contract to set up the KG deal, so we can move people.

The Cassel signing doesn't make any sense. However, the carrot of a future coaching position may keep him in the fold until the Miles situation resolves without allocating him a roster spot. I don't see why Cassel wants to play in pre-season and early season anyways. It's not in his interest or the Celtics.

House must be ripped if Cassel's coming back.

I don't see how this fits.

They definitely could do that. But I wonder if they value his expiring contract next year. His Salary would make excellent filler in a deal next summer.

You have to think about the luxury tax implications. If they cut him or waive him, Then they are guaranteed the cap hit for the next two years. If they keep him and use him in a trade next year. Then they are able to replace his cap figure with someone else next year. Where if he was cut, We would still have to pay him and pay someone else to replace him on top of it. Thats why I think its unlikely they cut him.

I agree. Scal is not going to be cut, maybe traded but not cut. I think Pruitt goes.

I agree. Scal is not going to be cut, maybe traded but not cut. I think Pruitt goes.

I think that it likely means Miles will go unless Cassell is sign to a non guaranteed contract too. Then it's fair game.

well if there is a trade House won't be in it. Eddie cant be traded till Dec 15. Im assuming POB,Tony and the rookies would also mean they are safe since they have all signed a contract within the last month or so. Maybe Danny is shopping Big Baby for a pick. Only thing I can really think of trade wise. I might be the minority here but im hoping Miles has matured and makes the team.

I guess one way to look at this is some one is going to be a bust or injured.

I just don't see this. But we can carry 18 for quite awhile.

It doesn't seem that it costs much to consolidate our talent. DA's reputation for spotting talent can only be enhanced by pur success. West, Gomes, Big Al are the dafted talents we've given up. Powe, Perk, Rondo and TA are the ones we've kept.

We get an experienced backup big who can space the floor and OKC gets a couple of assets and cash to cover for Scals contract (the extra year shouldn't bother them too much since they under 30M in salaries for next year). But I think it will be a kind of thing where they'll wait till the deadline to trade him like Kurt Thomas.

As much as I'd love for this to be true, there isn't a snowball's chance in hell of it being so. Baby has zero trade value around the league. Despite a decent showing in the Finals, Powe is still at best a 6'8 garbageman. A guy who i think will be getting paid for several years in this league due to effort but he's at best a 7th or 8th man. You don't give up mid first rounders for that. Maybe if the other GMS were drunk and high they'd go along with these prices but more than likely they won't be.

That said, I think the most likely candidates under the aforementioned scenario are both our 2nd rnd picks from last year going for a 2nd rnd pick, maybe 2. One next year, and a conditional future pick or something. I like Baby's skill but Erden could be him next year if he comes over. Doc and Danny are sweet on Powe and it might get him resigned for around 3mil maybe. They have his Bird rights. Pruitt is up after next year. They say they like him. Obviously not enough to believe he can handle the job. So you move him for what you can get. Both Baby and Pruitt are the easiest to replace on this roster. Even better if you can get a 2nd rnd pick and maybe a 2nd rounder that's in Europe so it won't cost anything. That way they get to keep open that extra roster spot in case they need it later like last year. It would be:

That idea has some potential. I'm not sure about the specifics, but having Smith here as a PJ replacement would be a boon. Plus, he and KG are buds.
