CB trade rumor by poster involving Scalabrine to Denver

What I take from this is the trade would be Scalabrine, Powe and Pruitt in exchange for Hunter. Yeah, I don't know... I'm not that desperate to move Scalabrine's salary. The only thing I know about Hunter is that Rivers coached him with Orlando.

Rumor (source unlisted): Celtics might acquire Steven HunterYou can lock this thread, mods...
I'm not going to tell you who he is, all I can say is that he works at Healthpoint and some of the players know who he is personally.
I know him because I went to school with him (graduated HS with him...) and I've attended a couple Celtics games with him... I've known him since I was about 5.
Anyway, he told me that the real buzz isn't the signings of Darius Miles and O'Bryant and the alleged courting of Shaun Livingston (although Ainge did have interest)... he's saying that Ainge is trying to make a move for a big man... a 2 or 3 for 1 trade. Everyone on the team thought Powe and Pruitt were gone but the TB's ended up rejecting the offer to send Przybilla to Boston. Now it looks like those same two guys with Scal might be off to Denver for Steven Hunter. At least it's being discussed / on the table. We might hear about it sooner than later.
Trust me on this one.http://www.celticsblog.com/index.php?op ... ic=22511.0

I would MUCHHHHHH prefer the Pryz deal.

I'd rather have Steven Hunter. He's a solid big man that can play defense. Plus he has a better contract than Pryz.
No way I would do the deal with Powe in it tho. I'd rather give up a pick and Big Baby than Powe and Pruitt.

Yeah, looking at the trade machine Powe and Pruitt is kinda overkill. You only need one of them to match up with Scal and Hunters salary. Id be cool with both if were getting back multiple 2nds or a 1st.

Ditto. Move Davis and not Powe. Powe's one of the best role players in the league at least for this team and he's one of the very few players who's humble. If Ainge wants more depth at center. Then it doesn't make sense to move Powe over Davis if Davis plays more at center on this team. Powe could be a true back up to Garnett.
Portland trading Przybilla makes little sense anyways now that LaFrentz will be on the shelf. That leaves Oden and Aldridge as your big men and both of those players will likely start. You could say the same for Denver with Camby now gone. They can't just rely on Nene and Andersen.

Steven Hunter isn't worth anything close to Leon Powe straight up, but if there is truth to this rumor it must reflect the team's opinion of Darius Miles and the team's desire to open up some PT for him.
Both Powe and Davis are up for contract extensions and the team may feel that it can't afford to meet his salary demands relative to their plans for the following off-season.
I'd hate to see Powe go, especially for a net talent zero like Hunter, but if it helps the bigger picture by keeping the cap situation liquid for 2010 and allows Miles to get substantial minutes at the 3 and 4, perhaps its for the best.
I'd still question some of the facts on this though...Pryzbilla has a HUGE contract for the next 3 years, which is entirely inconsistent with the way the team has positioned itself financially all off-season. So, while there may be some truth to these rumors, i'd hold out a bit before buying into them completely...some of this doesn't add up.
Also, Hunter has another year on his deal for almost 4 million-the most i'd expect Powe to get as an offer on the market, so I don't see how he'd effect the cap situation himself, unless they like the liquidity of Hunter's expiring deal.
Either way, it'll be interesting to see what shakes down leading up to camp...

I wouldn't mind having Steven Hunter on our squad....but if he is all we could get for Powe and Pruitt I'd rather just keep Powe and Pruitt and chance having to let them go for nothing.
Now, if say we were to get Renaldo Balkman in this deal as well, it sounds like a more realistic option.

Hunter, not for Powe, Scal and Pruitt sure, Hunter can block a shot and dunk a ball if hes thrown an ally opp or boards it but thats all . Powe can score in the post and brings toughness, I wouldnt mind having hunter on board but not at the price of Powe.
Veal and Gabe for hunter sold, but not with Powe

There is no logic in this trade for Denver, cause
- Hunter is their only backup center. There is only the Birdman at 6-10 and that is it (Martin, Nene, Anderson and Hunter)
- Scalbrines contract is the same lenght and same money.
On ethe other hand I would love to have Przybilla, but he is portlands main backup for both pf and c position. Ok finnacially portland would be interested but can get a better deal I think. Scalabrine, Davis and Pruit for Przybilla would be great, but...wont happen.

That is ridiculous! Trading Powe for Steven Hunter is a joke!
If shamsports is right about contracts Hunter has an early termination for next year, so he is basically expiring. Przbyilla also has an early termination option in his contract in 2010 according to shamsports, however hoopshype has a player option for 2010...
Anyway I wouldn`t trade Powe for either...

Hunter is a terrible NBA player. A classic example of a guy who is in the league because he is big and can jump a little. Even for Scal straight up we might not be coming out ahead..

What I don't understand is this. You've Perkins signed through three years, O'Bryant through two years, and Semih Erden could be eligible to sign a NBA contract after next season. While Hunter is signed through two seasons. So, does Ainge plan on carrying four centers after next season with this trade in mind? What if Erden's the real deal? Real deal in the sense that he can contribute right away as a rookie in a regular rotation.

I can see us doing a trade, we have too many on the roster, but hopefully Powe is not one that is part of a deal. BB and Scal for Hunter or some other big pf/c, but not Leon.

keep Powe. Denver needs a pg, so Pruitt+Scal for Hunter.
The best player in the deal as written is Powe, so just on the surface it's not something you want to do. Digging deeper, Denver is unlikely to play Powe very many minutes. If we were going to trade him, it'd probably be to a team looking for a starting PF, because as we've discussed before, he can start in this league.

Sounds like a lack of confidence in POB to me. Either that or an extreme vote of confidence in Davis.

I am sorry, but I just don't believe the C's would do that trade. It's way too lopsided to be justified by salary structure or the fact that we may end camp with 15 or 16 Celtics contract players.
Powe's not leaving here without a first rounder or similar talent in return. Hunter is not as good as Powe, straight up.
Next rumor please...

No way we get rid of Powe for Steven "I got stuffed by Marcus Banks" Hunter. In any case it would probably be Big Baby to go before Powe.
The fact that this guy is saying we've been going after Joe PrizB makes him even less credible. Ainge has done everything in his power to avoid contracts longer than 2 years and you mean to tell me that we were going to acquire PrizB's 3 year deal so that we can pay our backup C more than our starting C?
Sorry buddy but even the computer in a NBA2k would be rejecting that deal.

I seriously doubt DA is that stupid... this is just a rumor... and besides... I would think BBD would be the one traded... not Powe.
And yes... Powe is going to want to be paid in the off season and why not? He is pretty damn good...

Steven Hunter is a bum and I want no part of him.
I still remember DWest making a ridiculous block on his shot when Hunter was with the Suns. I'd rather bring back KandiMan than sign this no-talent scrub.

You don't appear to know what an early termination option is. View the salary index. They are basically player options.
