One thing that can explain a lot about Allen's productivity last year is he wasn't 100% all year. Now, he is completely healed and ready to go. Pretty good read.

I mentioned this a couple of weeks ago as part of a discussion about why the Celtics will be better this year. (Maybe not a better regular season record, but better prepared for a title.) Ray will be his old deadly self and the Celtics will be better. His "ankles are perfect" mantra made no sense so soon after the procedure.

Yep, it was evident in his splits all year. He played much better after having a day off or playing fewer minutes in the preceding game. I think that he wasn't really getting enough time to recuperate. In the early playoff series, I'm not sure what went on, because he had more time to rest. The Ray Allen we saw in the LA series is more like what we can expect of him this year.

You wouldn't have known that by watching the way he played against the Lakers. I'm glad that he's recovered, that means we're not gonna go through those offensive dry spells, which were very painful to watch.

A man got jailed for conspiring to murder Allen's step father during the first or second round.

That would have a pretty big effect on anyone.

He also shot noticeably better in the 1st/3rd quarters (fresh outta the locker room) and in "clutch" situations, which is perhaps why his performance against the Lakers wouldn't have come as a surprise

It was very noticable diffrence between Ray with one day off and Ray with two days off. I called him grandpa Ray.

That said, a not healthy 32 year old coming off double ankle surgery can only reduce one so much and he's on the wrong decade for an expectation of increased productivity. I read that as a 32 year old who couldn't recover from double ankle surgery and will now be 33. He may be better at the start with two months vacation but I don't think we're going to see a Ray Allen that is worth his pay or equal to a Paul Pierce.

If that's how you read it, you need to get some glasses! Ray's gonna prove you so wrong.

All righty then. We've had a year with all the guys in the system [same system and almost exact same players returning]. So we'll see if Ray can hack it for the 10mpg or so when he'll have to carry the second team. Last year, not so much for Ray and we know Pierce can.
