"Rondo is bigger"

Post#1 » by Gant » Mon Sep 29, 2008 9:27 pm

Rondo is going to have a great year. If he's gained muscle and maintains his speed, he'll be something very special. He's working hard:

"He's definitely been working. Veteran Celtics players had to tell Rondo to stop coming in for two-a-days. So he shortened his daily workout to one, 5-hour session."

Here's some more Rondo tidbits from the Globe media day coverage:

"Garnett, Allen, and Paul Pierce all looked decidedly skinnier and less muscular than when we last saw them in June. Rajon Rondo, on the other hand, looks positively jacked."

"I've gained 7 pounds," Rondo beams. "I guess you have to win a championship to gain weight."

The spindly point guard has added muscle, but he's also added confidence over the short summer.

"I want to be the best point guard in the league one day," said Rondo. "My coaching staff believes in me. The Big Three believes in me, and the rest of the team believes in me. I'm going to keep working hard regardless of how much I've accomplished so far."

I'm glad that Rondo has bulked up and Paul is skinnier, I'm less sure that Allen and KG needed to lose weight, especially KG.

This could be a double-edged sword. It's is certainly nice to see Rondo getting some weight and bulking his muscular mass but on the other hand I hope this won't affect his speed and agility.

You have to love his confidence!

Good for Rondo! Do we really need KG and RA any skinnier?

More likely it's a single edged sword though-- everyone's preferred form of cutlery.

Rondo needed to bulk up. He takes so many hits driving to the hoop. Can't wait for the season to start.

Doesn't look that much bigger, certainly no danger of losing agility, etc...

This just underscores the fact that the need at backup PG is going to be less urgent than some thought. Rondo is ready to take on a bigger role with this team. I'd actually like to see him challenge at least one of the Big 3 in PPG because his driving ability will add a new dimension to the offense as well as opening up lanes and space for the rest of the offensive weapons to operate. I'd love Rondo to play somewhere near 35 MPG this season.

The future is looking awfully bright with Rondo running the show.

I think execs around the league know very well how good Rondo is, but fans of other teams largely do not realize this...

...even after they've been conspicuously Rondoed.

Rondo gaining muscle will help him against the bigger PG's in the league.

Billups used his size to muscle his way to the basket, and scored a bunch on Rondo last year. I think he could use the added size to keep the big PG's from backing him down in the post and getting higher percentage opportunities.

Can't wait to see how well he plays this year. He's got a great attititude and has the tools to be a real special player.

Rondo is doing what Pierce needed to do some years back: Bulk up. In order to sustain the beatings going to the basket by Pierce. He'd to get stronger. Now, Pierce can shrug off getting knocked down by any defender at his position or getting worn out on defense except when it comes to LeBron James. And it helps to be a tough and confident minded player like Pierce. Likewise, Rondo is seeing the need to do the same. Because he gets knocked down a lot like a fly or gnat. He gets up... But, once in a while I'm sure he'll admit it hurts.

In related news...

A Reebok official said the company is in negotiations to re-sign Rondo to a multiyear shoe deal and is confident it will be done soon. Nike also has shown interest in Rondo, who recently visited the Reebok headquarters. Boston Globe

Bulk up Rondo!

He was much to skinny to containt the stronger PGs. And now maybe he'll be more inclined to play positional defense during the playoffs.

Pierce looks a little skinner then normal. I don't really care about that though, I don't think there will be much diffrence.

Ray isn't going to get better, so he might as well stay skinny.. wich with his role on this team won't hurt him much because he sucks at anything outside of shooting anyways.

KG skinner is a little concerning. Oh well guess he'll never be Tim Duncan. And it looks like he'll probuly stick with that perimeter and fade away no foul shot jays during the regular season. We probuly should have another Center if that's the case with KG. Perk is hurt and therefore now unreliable. And neither Baby or Powe are okay opitons.
