Sam Cassell Re signs for 1 year

Post#1 » by return2glory » Tue Sep 30, 2008 6:09 pm

Sam Cassell is back for one year. I'm happy about this because of the experience he brings. But now we have 16 players on the roster.

It's pretty much expected. I still think Miles will be the one cut. They also mention Brown in the article, but I would think this decreases the chances of him being signed later on.

Nice to see Sam back in the Celtic jersey. Like Doc said "he can sit for a few games in a row but step up when we need him". He could really be a nice example of a true warrior to all the young players out there having dreaming spires of one day becoming a professional basketball players.

Ya, Doc will be able to take guys like POB aside, and say "man, you gotta work real hard now, because before you know it you're going to be a whizzled up old geezer like that guy over there".

I sure hope the second time around is sweeter than the first, Sam was my least favorite player last year.

Sam did not play well last year after joining the Celts. Maybe going through camp and learning the system, his teammates, etc, will help.

He needs to move the ball, involve his teammmates, and stop chucking it up everytime he has the ball beyond half court.

You obviously misquoted my statement. By an example I meant that even though his age might be an obstacle to his regular playing time, his determination won't budge. I was referring back a few seasons when Sam played in an All-star team when he was 34 years old and was one of the best PG in the league. In the last season he wasn't brilliant, however he showed some sparks of the old Sam and we can easily rely on his experience especially players like Rondo and House who should take something positive from such an extraordinary player as Sam is.

I hope he plays better than he did last year. He did have a injuried wrist. Stil, not that excited about the signing.

In a way, this re signing raises a lot of questions. Here are some:

1. Will Eddie House is upset because he should be clearly our back up PG?
2. What happens to Gabe Pruitt now?
3. Who gets cut or traded?
4. What happens in P.J. decides to come back in Jan. or Feb? This signing makes it more difficult when it comes to the roster's flexibility.

I think the signing pretty much is put up or your gone for Pruitt.

I can't believe how in flux this roster is, given that we are a veteran, championship team. There are a host of drama's being played out. The Cassel signing creates an entirely new on at PG. Rondo and House looked very solid and Pruitt had time. Now there's a chance Pruitt is waived or cashed in for market value.

I think House had to have assurances. I hope he was a aware Cassel was coming back.

What are the rules on trading or including in a trade someone you signed over the summer?

Draft picks you can move in either 30 or 60 days. Veterans can't be dealt till a date in Dec.

The only way I can conceive of this being a good pickup for us is if somehow training camp helps Cassell play within the offense properly. Last season he was atrocious, so I'll be crossing my fingers.
