Bill Walker vs. Kedrick Brown

Post#1 » by return2glory » Thu Oct 9, 2008 7:07 pm

Bill Walker reminds me a of Kedrick Brown, when Brown was with us. They have similiar builds and great athletic ability. I remember rooting for Brown when he was our rookie. But that's where theor similarities end.

The main difference is that Brown was a pussy and avoiding contact. He had no heart, was lazy and stayed behind the 3 point line in the corner.

From what I have heard about Walker is that he is a hard worker has confidence in this game and doesn't back down from anyone. Bill Walker also attacks the rim. If he can stay healthy, Walker should be a great pick up for us.

So in other words, he doesn't remind you of Kedrick Brown at all.

completely, absolutely different. kedrick brown couldnt finish around the rim to save his career. he would consistently miss layups. bill walker is a bread and butter around-the-basket player.

^^^ They are similiar athletically - except that Walker is smarter and seems much hungrier and when you have Kedrick's athletic ability that makes all the difference in the world.

I don`t even remember anymore how Brown played back in the days. Maybe I intentionally repressed all my memories of him.

What about Bill Walker vs. Gerald Green?

1 game for me is enough to know that Walker is and will be a much better player. He simply knows how to play the game unlike Green who is clueless.

Kedrick Brown had every physical tool and did nothing with it. I just remember how "well" he filled out his CLE uni when he was jsut about out the league. Where is the G$ guy when you need him?

I think Kedrick had better hops, but Bill Walker has already dunked on more people than Kedrick ever did.

When Walker was in high school before the injuries he could sky with the best ever. He was incredible. It's amazing how high he still gets up after all the knee problems he's had.

I'm still here

I'm a big Bill Walker fan, so I'm not going to say anything negative in regards to him in comparison to Gerald. I think Walker has a real good shot at being a Maggette type scorer, but at the same time he's got just as good of a shot at being a Desmond Mason/Tony Allen type as well. I think Bill's in position to succeed here, so I have every expectation that he develops into a quality player.

r2g's original post pretty much sums it up. Kedrick was ultra passive and was not one to get his nose dirty. Much like Gerald, they could dunk with the best of them when wide open. Walker takes it in traffic and wants to stuff your head through the rim along with the ball.

Question remains whether he's got any game outside of dunking, but I love his aggression.

their skillset is nearly identical.

however, bill walker has a hunger and drive to succeed. his bbiq is also much farther along at this stage.

for example, both have the body and athleticism to crash the offensive boards. only one of them actually does. you be the judge.

I think Maggette is a perfect player to compare him to...year-to-year, I think Bill is slightly ahead of Maggette developmentally and they have similar weaknesses- lack range on shot, not great ball-handlers, not great playmakers--Maggette developed into an all-around player and I think Walker can do the same if he stays healthy...

Bill seems smart. He just busting his butt to 1) get the teams respect, 2) get the coaches respect, 3) earn minutes. As a rookie, that's all he has to do - play hard, play defense, be fearless. His college game was fairly well rounded, except free throw shooting, so in time he'll show more. I have no clue who he looks like, but I like his attitude.

Kedrick had (has he still plays in the D-League or did last year) a better jumper. It's kind of interesting that a guy like Walker would slip so low. Is it a sign that the league looks for more then upside nowadays?

I actually like the Kedrick comparison (athletically speaking) because Kedrick like Walker was BUILT. Gerald Green had good hops but was very slight. There wasn't alot of POWER to his dunks. Kedrick on rare occasions would just elevate and THROW IT DOWN. And you were like WTF Kedrick why don't you do that more often?! One difference though is that (and you can tell I was a pretty big Kedrick fan - sad to say) is that Kedrick seemed uncomfortable with palming the ball. This seriously limited his dunk artistry.

Kedrick actually had some excellent preseason games - but only really managed ONE good NBA game (vs. Jersey)..

Walker really seems to have his head on straight and he has that PPesque hunger that you really need to succeed. I can't believe SOME posters thought he was destined for Europe. <g> Its going to be tough for him to beat out TA though. Maybe he can earn some burn at the 3 spot. I think there he has to compete with Miles (who has a ton more length) and savvy at this point.

Hoepfully Bill Walker can become the player Kedrick Brown was supposed to be. Brown had a lot of hype coming into the league but never reached his potential. Physically they are very similar.

Physically he does. Both were 6'6 and about 220 and gifted physically.

Kedrick Brown had great defensive ability. He could block shots and he was built like a truck for his size. He also could hit 3 point shots. Otherwise he had absolutely no game. Bruce Bowen was the type of player he should have become but he lacked the drive.

Gerald Green has great athletic tools but no understanding of basketball and apart from a natural shooting stroke he has no NBA level skills. Whoever thought he could be T-Mac was absolutely nuts. He could actually end up as decent "microwave" off the bench like a Brent Barry or assuming the best case scenario like a Michael Finley type (after age 31 but softer).

Bill Walker looks to me to be a guy who is used to being "the man". He may not have the NBA talent to be that guy - especially after his injuries - but if he were playing against inferior talent he could take over the game. Against inferior talent, Gerald Green and Kedrick Brown still looked clueless. In garbage time, Walker could look like a poor man's Caron Butler (who is a poor man's Paul PIerce). I mean the guy - in limited minutes - has already shown that he knows how to finish and he knows what to do with the basketball. Is he a future star? Probably not but who knows yet.

Still, like Delonte West, Tony Allen, Rajon Rondo, Al Jefferson, Baby, Leon and Ryan Gomes - all terrific draft picks - he shows that he knows how to play basketball. And like them all I am sure he will show deficiencies. I would bet that he is not a complete player like our Big 3 and like Rondo will be some day.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."
