Celtics Survivor.

Looking at the globe quote today spurred me into writing this thread.
Look for one of our young players to get an increase in playing time to showcase him to another team. We are one players over the limit according to the article and the roster needs to be trimmed down.

Globe Quote:
“The Celtics are carrying 17 players, one more than the maximum allowed going into the season. “Someone who can really play will not make our team, “ Rivers said, adding that he would give that player a shot to make someone else’s team by playing him.”

Another strange quote also from Doc. On Big Baby Davies looking the least impressive. Is he trying to soften the masses to a possible Big Baby deal or is he trying to motivate a player with motivation problems?
Pruitt played a ton of minutes. Walker played a ton of minutes.
I think Giddens is safe as he didn’t play a ton of minutes, I know it is sort of a reverse psychology thing but I think the organization likes him and is willing to invest the time.

There is always Miles and POB. Have they showed enough to be kept? It has only been one game so far. The next few games will clear the dead wood off of the roster.

Who will be gone?

The safe ones;
Rondo, PP, Allen, KG, Perk, House, Sam, Giddens

Add O'bryant and Tony as a safe one

We've heard very little about Davis this year, and Doc pops off about him being the least impressive player. Significant IMO, because although I can remember a lot of comments from the team about who is doing well, I don't recall comments about people not doing well. 14 players on the court in a loss, Davis singled out.

Davis leads the get out of town race by a belly-button.

Pat O'Bryant is far from safe. There's a reason the Warriors didn't pick up his team option.

Starting to Look Like The Active 12 may end up looking like this:

Position ****** Starters ******* Backup ********** Active 12 ***** Deep Bench - Candidates to Go

** PG ****** Rajon Rondo ****** House ******* Pruitt or Cassell

** SG ****** Ray Allen ****** Tony Allen **************************************** Giddens

** SF ***** Paul Pierce ****** Walker ******* Darius Miles

** PF *** Kevin Garnett ** Leon Powe **************************************** Scalabrine

** C **** Ken Perkins **** P O'Bryant ****************************************** "Big Baby" Davis

Danny, calling around the league, saying he needs to let someone go.

"Make me your best offer for one of:"

Davis, Giddens, possibly Pruitt.

Also, trying to package combinations of the above with Brian Scalabrine in

various 3 for 1 and 2 for 1 scenarios.

Davis being out of shape hasn't helped his case.

8 turnovers and 9 fouls in 35 minutes haven't helped,

but you still have to think that Giddens and Pruitt are probably "available."

The only reason I don't think that Pruitt gets traded is that if the Celtics were going
to trade him, they would have done it in July or August
(once Eddie and Tony re-signed they knew their top 4 guards,
although they did get Sam to come back in late September at minimum,
possibly not fully guaranteed (maybe just a partial guarantee).

It is so obvious that Scal is the worst player, and should be cut immediately, but due to his contract, it probably won't happen. So, that is the equality of Scal winning the stupid immunity challenge every week so he can't be voted off.

Danny should send the owners a video of Scal's top ten turnovers of the preseason. I mean the guy is a like a 7 year vet now; there is no excuse. But the owners are probably well aware of all this cuz they're fans, too. We might see some of our young potential go for low on the dollar. Grin and bear it I guess.

The thing is, Scal is a sunk cost; you have to pay whether or not he is on the team. His value to the team is negative (he is taking up a valuable roster spot). Therefore the decision that makes the most sense is to cut him. However owners often have trouble accepting those kind of decisions from a rational standpoint.

SCAL SUCKS! He should be the one that gets cut period, the BBD, then Cassell.

I must disagree when it comes to BBD he has hit some shots but his defense is pretty bad, and that will be the difference between us cutting BBD and keeping Pruitt, Thus we will run with four PG, but Pruitt can play some two as well.

F ScaL! I played for a lil while nothing major and I know you do not throw chest pass in the paint to a BIG! A fukin Bounce pass would work you dummy! Bite the fukin bullet DA and have the owners buy him the F out and let him be a community activity guy. OMG this overweight, red, slow and pretty stupid looking dude needs to get cut. I have never seen someone go up and under and not have the hang time to get to the other side of the rim, worst part is he airball the shot to. Dude is trash DA pls everyone else on this team would outplay SCal and beat him for a roster spot so save us the pain and suffering of seeing this bum have 15 TO and 5 fouls in 4mins of a preseason game with a bunch of guys that wont make a team in the US or in China, or Africa! I just dont understand how you a vet and you struggling to play some what effective vs a bunch of 5 string players. ERRRRRRRRRR i hate you Scal!

Scal is obviously the worst player. He doesn't belong in the NBA. I'd be in favor of cutting him.

But Baby isn't helping his case. He's been pretty bad too. And he's more out of shape than at the end of last season. We only have him under contract for one year. If he's not going to contribute this year, then there's no sense in keeping him around. If we can get a 2nd round pick for him that's probably the best case scenario. Because we ain't gettin jack for Scal.

If DA cannot make a trade package with Scal, then he has to be cut. The players know the score. There will be many pissed players if Davis or Pruitt is released and Scal is kept.

The way Miles has been treated this far with regards to playing time is strange to me. Either they already know that he is going to be cut, and therefore see no value in playing him, or they know they want to keep him and are attempting to evaluate other people. Either way it seems to me that Miles' fate has already been decided. If he were in fact fighting for a roster spot he'd see more time than 4 minutes a game.

Last night he had a Scal-esque air ball on his only shot of the game, which makes me think he still has some work to do before he can really contribute for us. But if you ask me who I would rather have for a 15th man? It's Miles 9 times out of 10, just because he's shown so much more earlier in his career and has some upside. With Scal I don't see any upside at all.

Plus Scal already has a new job lined up

Rocky

you are right about Miles they have made a decision and he has already made the team. Danny is on record sating that Miles ten game suspension isn't a problem. He is this eras Bill Walton signing.

the cuts are Big Baby, Pruitt or Scal.

true leper, but he's also said that he thinks Miles "can play for us or someone else" which makes me wonder if he sees Miles making the team.

I think Big Baby is a better fit than Powe because he flows better in the team offense and defense.
