Who's next on Bill Walker's Checklist???

Post#1 » by DJToLarry » Sun Oct 12, 2008 12:03 pm

Walker isn't exactly going after the little sisters of the poor!! :)

Get into it with KG in practice...Check
Give forearm to LeBron after nasty dunk...Check
Tick off Tracy McGrady...Check
Techical for forearm into pick-setting Yao Ming...Check

Remember what Danny said about Posey? You always need a guy on your team who is a bit of an instigator and who will **** the other team off.

Kobe beware, Bill has you in his sights.

I like that he doesn`t back down from anyone. But he must not get too arrogant. He is just a rookie sometimes he needs to shut up and walk away...

I personally think the team needs to consider, behind the scenes and maybe even publicly, suspending him. Its great that he is passionate but I'm afraid he is going to do something incredibly stupid if someone doesn't tell him is behavior is getting out of hand. He has been looking for a fight in every preseason game so far.

I don't know. He doesn't appear to be that aggressive in my eyes. That T last night was just ridiculous and the LeBron thing was no better. I don't even think they were technicals. I like his fire. I'm sure they talk to him and let him know there is a line.

Don't get me wrong I love the guy, and pretty much wanted to draft him no matter what draft pick we had, but I watched him quite a bit in college and he does this a lot, I mean a lot. He is extremely emotional on the court. I think ut will be better for him in the long run to lay down the law right now, before he does something to really hurt his reputation.

Absolutely not......it all was in the flow of the game. The players would think Danny was nuts. This kid is a player and the other teams know it too, that's why they are going after him. He's a A dog and not taking any ****. KG and the gang will school him. I just love this guy. He got right into T-Mac's peebrain
just like Posey did except Pose has a few years...in a bit the other players will get used to it. The kids a keeper. 8-)

i think it's great. so long as he keeps it under control. like KG said, it's great that he kept things in check after he got into it with Tmac. he didn't escalate it. it's fine to get a T or two for sticking up for yourself or teammates (unlike for complaining to refs).

you know, the C's used to have a guard who was great at getting under opponent's skins. he was a big part of our championships in the 80's. turned out to be a pretty good GM too. i don't think he wants walker to stop what he's doing.

Just remember what people were saying about Al Horford when he was mouthing off to Pierce in the playoffs....everyone around here was complaining, calling him a punk, and saying it wasn't Horford's place to do that.

I'm personally completely ok with it, but I enjoy seeing some of the same people who hated what Horford was doing loving what Walker's doing.

That's true to an extent, but there's a difference between shouting at Pierce while he's lying on the ground and trying to stand up for yourself after McGrady knocked him down. One instance is Horford trying to show up/embarrass Paul Pierce and the other instance is Walker trying to stand his ground after McGrady tried to send Walker a message.

I don't like it, Walker is going about it too publically. And if you have a promblem with KG. You shut the **** up. You a rookie, KG's an emotional leader, and if you knew anything you'd know he never stops talking.

Posey is an "instigator" only in certain circumstances. Last playoffs I can't think of one, I know the CHI board can think of a few.

But the refs will comdemn you for being one if you are too early, Walker is only a rookie and he needs to gain a positive reputation before he does something stupid like starting a fight. And he certianly never should start an altercation with KG in practice. There's a diffrence between and instigator [good Artest] and a hothead [bad Artest].

nah, that's different. Pierce didn't give Horford a forearm shiver. Walker was just standing up for himself after McGrady clearly just wanted to send the rookie a message.

as for the KG altercation in practice, KG was not only fine with it, he praised Walker for it. so i don't think it's an issue.

...Walker has always been emotional, but he is also very intelligent as well...I think he'll have his share of tech's, but I don't think he'll ever be a complete wild-card like Rasheed Wallace...Walker doesn't take retaliation to his physical play lightly, but i've never seen him straight lose it...he will start jawing and get in a guys face, but i've never seen him throw down or be the one to take it to the next level...

Like most of the rest of it, this will likely be an area of development for Walker, where he'll learn what he can and cannot get away with...but in time, i expect him to be much like KG-super aggressive, but never too frequently getting past the line or reason...

Kenyon Martin played like a thug (40 techinals and 4 ejections) for much of his time in New Jersey. After he "toned" it down (still fouling, pushing, attempting to intimidate), the referees started to cut him some slack. I always thought that instigators should make a name for themselves as a tough guy/antagonist and then cut it back a little bit.

I don't think Bill Walker should have too much of a problem, to be honest. Hell, the Paper Tiger in Oralndo and Princess James have both done the same things since their first days in the league and they both have got away with it. Perhaps that is Stern's enabling of 1st overall picks/face of franchise types, though.

Nostrabasketballdamus says: "To gain an edge one must exist in the head of one's opponent as well is in one's opponent's grill, this cannot be achieved by approaching one's opponent in a conciliatory manner". I don't know what the hell he's talking about, but I know he loves Bill Walker.

Bill Walker's job is to take some pressure off Pierce and RAllen since we are the defending champs.

BfB--

Can we expect a decent outside game from Walker at some point in his career? Also, do you have any idea what the state of his knees might be?

I've got no problem with Walker pushing up against guys. He's playing like a guy who has a chip on his shoulder- a guy who was picked well below where he should've. I was nervous about him because he doesn't have much of a jumpshot, but it's pretty apparent right off the bat that this kid can get to ther im against nearly anyone in the NBA. Like Rondo, he's just so fast and agile that even with guys playing off him, he can get by them with some explosive moves.

There certainly will not be confidence issues with BW like you sometimes see with Tony Allen.

He is fine, I wish all our young players had the confidents he has. Teams need guys like him ala James Posey. It would be the dumbest thing the team could do. That would change his whole kill em all mentality which has made him so succesful throughout his career.
