Tony Allen Knee Brace

Post#1 » by Rocky5000 » Wed Oct 15, 2008 5:16 pm

So, one of the big things that gave me confidence in TA this season was that he was going to ditch that massive knee brace, like he did in game 6, and be back to his old ways. After playing 42 minutes and having a great game, without a knee brace, the knee brace has now returned and he's once again struggling. It seems something went on with his knee in that game. However, if it is was a serious injury, he'd have been kept out of the last two games, in which case I think TA just needs to suck it up and play without the knee brace. Darius Miles is playing on a knee that is supposedly torn up and destroyed and he only wears sleeves over his knees. Wearing the brace really seems to limit Tony's mobility, dribble, and hence his play. I hope there is some reporting on what has happened to him or that he realizes how much the brace slows him down...

Who knows. They have doctors to help decide these things.

I mean do any of us really understand the intricacies and subtleties of knee injuries? I know I don't, so I let the professionals handle it.

Yeah, they do have doctors but sometimes the players are not exactly honest with the doctors or the coaching staff if they want playing time. Remember how Ray Allen wanted to play a lot in preseason in Italy even though he was still recovering from ankle surgery? He told everyone that his ankles were 100%, which was a flat out lie. I wonder if Tony is afraid of losing his role as a 6th man, this preason, if he took a game or two off.

Have you noticed a change in Tony's play the last couple of games?

My son had to wear his knee brace for the first year he came back from ACL surgery. It is pretty much the norm after this type of surgery from what his doctor says, and the doctor said that he does about 150 of these surgeries a year.

I've never been fond of how Doc manages minutes. TA plays a great game Friday night, but plays 41.5 minutes and it's early in pre-season. His next 2 games there is a significant fall-back of his play.

Perhaps Doc was testing how quickly TA would come back from such an effort and it was all part of a grand design, but it just seems to me to be odd to pound him that hard so early.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But TA is not wearing the brace anymore. He was wearing a black sleeve on his knee area.

I'm 99% sure it was just a sleeve the Saturday game. I'm unsure about the Tuesday game, but given when this thread was started I had assumed that the brace appeared that game when I was peering just through an Internet streaming service and couldn't observe closely.

Just checked the Tues game, and it was just a sleeve.
