http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/s ... alk-081015The NBA trading frenzy that normally seizes teams come February could be arriving a little early this season. Assigned to write a column on who could be traded during this season, I was surprised by the number of teams that seemed "open for business" on the trade front.
Players he lists:
-Shawne Marion
-Carlos Boozer
-Lamar Odom
-Vince Carter
-Ben Gordon
-Rasheed Wallace
-David Lee
-Raymond Felton
-Darko Milicic
-"Portland 7" inc. M.Webster, C.Frye, I.Diogu, S.Rodriguez, T. Outlaw, S.Blake & Raef
Interesting read. Most likely on that list, imo, to be traded is Vince. Whatever team steps up with a '10 expiring has em.

why doesn't utah understand that they cannot win without boozer? are they expecting to trade him for a better big man? dwight howard is not walking through that door.
vince is a bum.
rasheed is going to be one of those older vets that still thinks he's an all star (like sam cassell)... so im not sure if having him arund will be great in a couple yrs.
gordon is a nice player but way too one dimensional. hed be good comming off the bench for a team like dallas... or maybe starting next to josh howard and j kidd. they could probably get him for cheap.

Rasheed for the MLE next summer would be *dandy*. Him and KG are good friends and he'd be the perfect 3rd wheel in a 3-big rotation in the playoffs. plus its a kick in the nuts to Detroit

I see only VC and LO as the players on the move this year. Vince is gonna start whining, like he always does, and force the Nets to make a bad trade. LO, isn't gonna fit in with Bynum and Gasol and be traded for someone, maybe VC or anther SF.
Though I didn't see Mr. Scalbrine on that list. I don't whether that's a good or bad sign.

I wonder if we could swap POB & Scal for Milicic. I doubt it, but who knows, maybe Chris Wallace has a thing for Scal, or simply wants Milicic out. Salaries would work. POB hasn't impressed me much thus far, and Milicic still classifies as a prospect as well. Milicic's salary expires end of next season and he would be much more solid Perk insurance than we currently have IMO (although I don't think Baby's a bad option @ C).

I agree with everything you just said about every player here. especially Gordon. Right now he looks like the attractive pick to teams because he's young and has upside and was ROY but hes kind of like a more athletic Nick Van Excel without the killer outside shot.Which isn't going to get anyone any championships. And yes, Vince is a bum who has his slam dunk contest trophy atop his living room mantle. Hating to loose doesn't mean you have heart. Someone should tell him that.

Gordon is a bum. All he can do is shoot the basket, but since he wears a Bulls uniform, all their fans talk him up like he's MJ.

Whats the point of trading POB for Darko? POB is cheaper and they are both prospects/busts.

I'm not a big LO fan but the one thing he is, is tough. Bynum and Pau are often hurt. There will be a role for him because of their constant injury status.

I really like Odom's natural skillset, but he's not tough (only 65 rs games/season) and he's not developing (shooting, handles with right hand).

It's because Scal sucks and he wasn't putting scrubs on the list.

I would love Sheed on this team for the MLE.

That's a good point, I didn't even think about that. One of those two are going down this year, if history repeats itself, which it always does.
As for my Scal comment, it was a joke...thought that was obvious

Didn't sound like a joke at all.

The argument in the article is that they're afraid they'll lose him for nothing, just like Cleveland did.

i think we should be players at the deadline. we still (amazingly) have some quality youth that we can sacrifice to strengthen our bench for the next couple of years. Sheed would be great, but would he accept a backup role? I just don't see him as a great fit alongside KG. But a Perk/Sheed/KG rotation would be great. David Lee may be cheaper for a similar role. If we could trade Davis, Pruitt, etc for Lee I'd do it in a heartbeat. Then let Powe and Lee (and POB) battle it out for 3rd big man status.
Portland's youth also interests me. Some of those guys are talented, they just need a good development program like we have. If one of our young guys isn't working out or doesn't have a role, maybe we could swap young benchwarmers.
i don't like the idea of giving up POB for Darko. POB is imo already a better defender than Darko. He is not as skilled offensively but that's not what we need. The extra expense of Darko doesn't justify the marginal overall improvement.

it was.

How bout:
Scal + Big Baby + 3mil to make Scal go away for A. Morrison
Kid would be a nice shooter off the bench if nothing more, plus he expires this year so we know he'll be gunning for his loot.

Morrisons option has been picked up for 09/10.
So essentially you're offering an overweight, undersized second round pick on an expiring contract for a 3'rd overall pick with 2 years left on his entry contract.
I know Morrison had major surgery, but if his game has fallen off so badly that this is the best they could get for him, I really question how much use he'd be to the Celtics.

I would do Scal and Giddens for Morrison and that may not be as far fetched as it sounds with LB in town. Scal is a practice player who does what he supposed to do and does it hard. Giddens doesn't have Morrison's skill but he is actually a better raw talent and a defender so there is a chance in hell he might use him unlike Morrison who will never see a minute under LB. I can't believe they don't have a deal set up pulling the trigger on that extension.
Anyone with a clue had to know Morrison would struggle adjusting to the pro game and the injury set him back. He may be more Kyle Korver than Wally World but he could still be a useful player in this league.
If nothing else it would be interesting.
