LOL @ the Lakers - Bynum wants $17m

They've got such a hilariously bad dynamic over there. Bynum -- their supposed savior -- wants 5 years at $17m/year before he's helped them win anything. And if you look a little farther down in the wiretap you'll see the article about his knee acting up again.

Too funny  I hope they do pay him $17m to rest his injury from January to June every year.

I wonder where he could have picked up this incredible sense of entitlement? Hmmm....

Can he even get that much per season? But that is pretty funny that he wants that much, considering he's done so little.

I asked my boss for $100 million this year, had to settle for something less in the end...

This seems like such a ludicrous request by Bynum that I wonder if he is just forcing LA's hand to have him enter free agency and force the Lakers to match an unreasonable contract.

How DARE any of us question the immortal greatness that is KareemAbdulndrew JaBynum-Chamberlain...don't you know last year's loss to us in the Finals was the BEGINNING of the Lakers new dynasty? Come on people, with Bynum and Kobe and Gasol they're gonna win 2468546544 titles in a row and...BAHAHAHAHAHAHAH I can't keep a straight face anymore...

To the OP, ya hit it on the head with "bad dynamic"...one of the most dysfunctional team environments I've seen in a looooooooooooooong time....

I could see one scenario where he gets offered a lot of money.
NY knicks, they would think he could be their amare and he would force LA to a sign and trade. The knicks will have a lot of expiring contracts next year, but doesn't seem like there is any talent.

He's lost his marbles. 17 million per year is awarded to a person who can continuously carry a franchise.
This guy has out of his **** mind. He cant carry a **** duffel bag. Just remember, if you recall one year previously, before last year when the Lakers went to the finals, Andrew Bynum sucked ass, and Kobe Bryant was pissed at the Lakers for not trading him for Jason Kidd.

So last year happens. He gets a little notoriety, averages a double/double. He doesn't even get them through one round of the playoffs because he had season ending KNEE surgery. Ooooh that hurts! Kobe gets the Lakers to the finals by him self, and Andrew **** Bynum wants monetary credit for Kobe's accomplishments. Somebody give this kid a drug test. He's gotta be stoned. Now, He's got a history of knee problems and thinks he's a franchise player.

21 Year old 7'1 270 lbs true centers who shoot 60%, rebound exceptionably well, block shots and post positive assist to turnover ratio's are going to end up with maximum contracts in this league anybody trying to state otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about.

This is a league where Zach Randolph, Nene, KMART, Szczerbiak, Dalembert, etc are making 10 plus million dollars a season, be realistic for a moment and you've got to understand what teams would give to get a likely 20 PPG, 12 RPG, 3 APG, 2 BPG, 60%, center locked up throughout their 20's.

I'm aware that he hasn't yet done those things but he was 20 last year giving 13 ppg, 10 rpg and 2 bpg on the team with the best record in the west as the second most effective reason they were in that position before he got hurt.

I love to hate the Lakers as much the next guy but they've got a special young center here and i'd love nothing more then to see them decide he isn't worth max money and let him walk.

I've read nothing which indicates Bynum is arrogant, so it's more than likely his agent's request. I've read a lot of bad things about his agent. If this is true, I would definitely change agents if I was him.

Oh, he'll end up with a max deal eventually. IF he comes back from his knee surgery and IF he doesn't get fat and lazy and IF his 35 game resume translates to 82 games and IF his 13 ppg turns into 20 ppg and IF... well, you can see where I'm going with this.

As of today, he's a lot closer to Jonathan Bender than he is to Dwight Howard.

General Manager Mitch Kupchak and Bynum's agent, David Lee, met Friday for about an hour at the team's training facility, though the only agreement to come from it was to talk again in the near future.

Lee is seeking a five-year extension for his client worth an estimated $17 million a year, while the Lakers are more comfortable paying Bynum about $10 million a year, possibly with incentives for All-Star appearances and team playoff success.

As per terms of the collective-bargaining agreement, teams can only offer incentives that move an annual salary upward. Bynum could not be penalized financially for missing games because of injuries.

The Lakers like the potential of Bynum and want to sign him for another five years, though they feel the need to protect themselves financially in case Bynum gets injured again.

If the sides don't agree to a deal by Oct. 31, Bynum plays the final year of a contract worth $2.8 million this season and becomes a restricted free agent July 1.

According to the website basketcentral.it the Greek basketball team Olympiakos is preparing a monster offer for Kobe Bryant when his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers expires next summer. The New York Times is reporting the offer is for $83 million over three years.

There is a player option for each year so that Bryant can opt out and go back to the states at any time. The contract also includes tons of perks. The club will pay all of Bryant’s taxes, give him a villa on the Mediterranean Sea, use of his own private yact, and hire him an entire staff of servants.

John Bender really, you might as well have typed that you have no interest in having a reasonable talk about Bynum. The kid didn't have a torn acl, mcl and micro-fracture he dislocated his knee its not a career altering issue in all likelihood he's going to be fine.

The number of centers that have played the way he did at 19 and 20 years of age and more importantly that have shown that type of growth from year to the next at those ages are all very elite company. You can find just as many top flight scouts who consider him the most talented young center in the league as do Oden and Howard.

Your right Celtsfan1980, there feeling among our fans is that Bynum's agent is playing the tough guy role by trying to strong arm the Lakers. Bottom line is his agent has taken negotiations public, which is a first for the organization. While most of the nation think ALL Laker fans make him out to be GOD is laughable to me anyway.

I wish that some of your brothers in arms here would go to our board and see that we all don't think the way it's portrayed here.I for one know that Bynum hasn't proved he's worth the price he's asking, we just haven't seen enough yet.

But it's clear from the post I've seen here that they've just stuck a tag on all Lakers fans thought of Bynum.

I mean come on are you serious , how is it that any player in a contract year and want's a new deal regardless of the dynamics of how it's playing out...................dysfunctional ? What the hell does that have to do with the owner and a player ? Anyway I'm just letting be known that not all Laker fans are in agreement on the matter.

He'll be worth it.

I don't think anyone here would have hesitated to give Jefferson a near max contract if he had been with us and on the open market....Minny was lucky Jefferson decided to re-sign cheap (and he himself has said he knows he could have gotten more).

Bynum's proven that in 25-30 minutes a game, he can be one of the top 5 centers in the league....the same way Jefferson was showing in similar playing time he could be one of the premier post scoring threats in the league. A 22 year old big that's already posted numbers as good as Bynum has is worth the MAX.
