Greg Oden=Walking Injury

Post#1 » by mainevent3405 » Wed Oct 29, 2008 2:59 pm

I am SO glad the ping-pong balls didnt fall our way that fateful day 2 years ago at the draft lottery selection. Durant would have been cool, but GO would have been our choice and he is nothing but a walking injury. Period. He's been hurt in college (his whole short college career), He's been hurt since he entered the league. Something tells me he is going to be one injury after another ala Sam Bowie. His offensive severely lacks. He is a great rebounder and an intimidator but he brings absolutely nothing else to the table. I doubt if he's even in the running for ROY. I would have been OK with the rebuilding around Al Jeff and Kevin D. We would have gotten more high draft picks because we still would not have been a serious contender, but it would have at least been fun instead of being pissed that our Number#1 pick couldn't stay on the floor. Thank you David Stern!! :D

It's only one game, but he does seem rather fragile for a (supposedly) 19 yr old. I was damn near indestructible at that age and for years after...

We'll see in a month or so how he's holding up...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

Yeah I was looking forward to seeing Oden and the Blazers play this year but I think its only an ankle sprain so its not too bad.

But for the junk we went through in 07 when we lost out on the Oden/Durant sweepstakes and some Blazers posters having the sig with Doc & Ainge and Borat in the middle weareing a Blazers jersey all I can say Karma is a......

Now we're defending Champs looking to repeat while Portland is crossing their fingers with Oden.

I'm really disappointed about his current health. Besides his status as a Blazer I think he's a real cool guy. I wish him all the best.

Don't get me wrong, I like the guy personally. I think he has great character and is a very likeable person in itself, but I would have been REALLY angry if we would have drafted him, labeled the next Bill Russell and he failed to stay on the floor. I know its only an ankle sprain...last night. Last year he hurt himself getting off of his sofa at home for gods sake! Some athletes are just injury prone. I can list quite a few who never lived up to the hype because they couldn't stay healthy long enough to matter. Unfortunately I see Greg slowly slipping into this category. Portland is good but they are almost solely a perimeter team. Even their bigs (besides Oden) are perimeter players. Pryz is the closest thing they have to a post player and Outlaw is a slasher. They will live and die by the jump shot until they get beefy in the post or until Greg stays on the floor for an extended period of time.

I wonder if he has some hormonal(likely) or nutritional imbalance going on. I'd guess the majority of people who are 7 feet tall do not go without health problems related to their height and rapid growth at a young age. I know it definitely affects people like Yao, Shawn Bradley, Muresan, Bol, but those guys were taller.

I think he's pretty durable for a 64 year old center.

Can you imagine if the ping pong balls had gone a different way? We'd all be on suicide watch about now. Hopefully the injury is nothing and Oden can come back strong.

Big Al seemed to be injured every other day early on. Then he got over it. I hope Oden does too. He's a good guy, and good for the league. He's a bit stiff but at 7-1 with insanely long arms and decent hops, he's an imposing stiff.

Oden should enroll into dental school during his recovery period. Insurance policy...

LMAO at all the Blazers fans who think they are going to win the title this year.

And I thought NYK fans were delusional.

Greg Oden could become the next Bill Russell and I would still be happy we missed on him because we have a championship and a chance at another this season!

From what I saw, he looked lost on offense, but that's not his game anyways. He didn't play very much and that center match-up (Bynum and Oden) was very disappointing.

The thing I notice about Oden is that he always seems to walk with a slight limp. Apparently, one leg is a bit shorter than the other. I don't think he's ever going to be that great in transition game, but he could still be a dominant defender and develop a decent offensive arsenal. Anyway, I wish the best for the guy; he's a nice kid and good for the league.

Greg's out 2-4 weeks. Maybe he's more Bill Walton than Bill Russell.

The injury last night was bad luck. I've been a Blazers fan since the 90's as well, so I'm glad where both teams are at now (wouldn't trade the championship for anything), so I'm hoping them the best. I personally don't see this as being a problem through his career. Once he does start playing consistently everyone'll forget about the injuries. It's all just overreaction at this point.

He looked really old out there - it's kinda hard to imagine him as a franchise big when guys you normally consider "old" like Shaq and Duncan look like spring chickens in comparison..
