One way to think of the personnel upgrades

Premise 1. The only thing wrong with Kevin Garnett's game is a bit of softness in the paint.
Premise 2. The only things wrong with Powe's game are at the defensive end, and anything he's not fundamentally too short for he can learn with repetition.

If those are both essentially correct, then the best use of Pierce, Garnett, and Powe in a vacuum is as a three-forward rotation.

So if you want to trade Ray Allen, because you think the young talent we have or could get back at SG is close enough, then what we should most want back is a greatly underrated young center talent.

Remember: One of the most lopsided deals in NBA history is one in which a team trade two future hall-of-famers for the rights to a rookie center -- and the team that got the center is the one that won the deal, getting 11 championships out of it, vs. 1 for the team on the deal's other side.

So we're trading Ray + Rondo for Oden?!?!

edit: And why do we need Bill Russell when we already have Chief2.0 stashed on the bench?

:)

I don't think we're trading Ray at all, and I'd be VERY surprised if we traded Rondo. But Ray for useful filler plus a young stud big man? I can see Ainge taking that risk, IF he thought the right guy was out there, just as he was willing to risk trading Pierce for the rights to CP3.

Gross. No one is getting traded, unless it's Scal + youngster, not named Powe + Perk + Rondo, to get a solid role player.

Gross. Perk and Rondo for a 'solid role player'? WTF.

He means a youngster that ISN'T Powe, Perk or Rondo.

Scal + Giddens for Joe Smith.

^^^ That's a kind of deal that could be possible. A lot depends on what they think Giddens can become. So far I have not been impressed with the kid, but it's still early.

The Celtics weren't too impressed Billups or Joe Johnson during the first halfs of their respective rookie years. Not comparing Giddens to either guy, i'm just saying...

Gidden's potential is the reason that OKC would even consider doing that trade. I think he'd look good with Green, Durant, Westerbrook as a young, fast-paced team. Here, he will get very few minutes if any, and we have Walker as well.

Basically, reasonable deal that increases chances to get another ring, you do it. We could use another vet with length and a 15 ft jump shot, that seems clear to me. We can't depend on POB and Big Baby to make that transition for us this year.

Good point about needing a big w/ a jumpshot. Perkins and Powe are pure interior scorers, and between them they'll probably carve out 48 minutes or so per game. So the other bigs need to have jumpshots.

Is LBJ and that draft class up this summer or next? If we can turn Ray into one of those guys... That has to be option number one. Don't know what the odds are but maybe.

2010. The Big Three earned the right to defend the crown this year and all trades ought to be made with that and the 2010 free agency in mind.

ray and two or three #1s to denver for carmelo and steven hunter...

im torn between my respect and admiration for ray for his career and whats hes done for us and my absolute man love for melo as to whether id even do it.

but PP could play SG if melo was here and melo could be the main star once KG and PP were gone

5- perkins/hunter
4- powe/davis/hunter
3- carmelo/walker
2- tony allen/giddens/walker
1- rondo/pruitt/house

isnt bad in the future

normally i dont speculate like this, but my orange love cant help it
