Sam, Scal & Bill Beat Pruitt, POB & Giddens

In a half court 3 on 3 scrimmage after Thursday's practice,

it was reported that J. R. Giddens was upset that his team lost,

and that Bill Walker had to be held back from going after Patrick O'Bryant at one point.

This is a surprise, in that,

a lot of us wonder if Patrick O'Bryant can make the Active Roster,

logically by making Brian Scalabrine Inactive,

and when you read this,

that soon to be 39 year old Sam Cassell (birthday this coming Tuesday), Scalabrine & Walker

beat youngin Gabe Pruitt, 6' 11" (for real) Patrick O'Bryant (2006 #9 pick), and J. R. Giddens.

Stunning, really.

Not good if you're hoping for Patrick O'Bryant to take the floor soon,
since POB should destroy Scal if he hopes to play against centers;

and not good if you're expected Pruitt to be able to come in and make shots,
since Sammy C. is proven in that area.

And even surprising since #30 pick J. R. Giddens was on the other side from
#47 pick Bill Walker.

Not good for fans of Pruitt, O'Bryant or Giddens.

Yuk.

The only 3 of these 6 players who have been on the Active Roster this year are
Gabe Pruitt, Brian Scalabrine and Bill Walker.

3 on 3 is not full court NBA basketball. I have friends who, if put in half court situations, can hang with better players. However, put them in a game, full court and they are done.

Good point.

I am sure an excellent shooter like Sam Cassell is more dangerous in half-court
than he would be trying to keep up with Pruitt running the length of the floor.

Still, Pruitt had POB on his team.

But, as you point out,
Walker might be more effective in 3 on 3,
where it is easier to drive,
than in 5 on 5.

3 on 3 is my game. It should be a olympic sport. LBJ Howard and Kobe against the world.

BZZZZZT!!

Bulpett in the Herald:

"As you’d expect, it was gameday for the gang from the end of the bench and inactive list. The team of Gabe Pruitt, J.R. Giddens and Patrick O’Bryant defeated Sam Cassell, Brian Scalabrine and Bill Walker in a best-of-seven series with games to seven points."

Thanks, Gant.

I normally read the Boston Herald, but not today.

I saw the report on the following site:

Too bad it was only referring to one 7 point game.

Speaking of 3 on 3 have any of you been to or seen a 3ba game? http://www.3ba.com/Arena/index.php?city ... motionArts
Shawn Kemp was playing on a team for a few games. CJ Giles is now in the NBA and he used to be a 3ba player.

Good. I hope POB gets cut.

Is giddens a bust? I am not declaring he is or he isn't, I just want another fans opinion. I didn't follow the celtics much in preseason, but all I heard was good things about walker, and nothing good about giddens.

Defensive marks don't show up in the box score and giddens never looked to hot in pre-season but I think once he gets used to the speed of the players in the NBA and gets rid of pre-game Jitters he will be a very nice one slash 2 in the league one day.

But Walker to be taken with a pick that was purchased for cash is unheard of, he may be gung hoe but you can't teach a offensive threat...

Great players can be a little like a stick of dynamite.

From what I hear, Walker is a little like Kid Dynamite..

Most likely or maybe POB just earned it, It's not that much of a stretch.

Walker definitely needs to calm down. He seems to be rubbing a lot of players the wrong way. I don't think anyone could honestly say that they think POB, the player percieved by most as a passive slouch, created the situation. I don't know how long the pass that he's been given by some Celtics fans will last.

walker does not need to calm down, or do you want KG to calm down too? there arent enough players with that fire, and when walker reminds why he was always more than just a sidekick to mayo and beasley we will be thrilled

Walker reminds me so much of Stephen Jackson, now just take away his guns and keep him out of the strip club and we will have our Ray Allen replacement. Leon Powe likes to get in peoples faces during practice as well, it is part of the game.

As for Giddens I don't think he is a bust as much as he was a questionable NBA talent to begin with. I believe the thinking was that Ainge was drafting an NBA ready defender who had a lot of experience and may be able to contribute on his rookie deal specically if Tony Allen or Eddie House did not return. Tony is back so even at his best the only element of the game Giddens may have over him is 3pt shooting but he doesn't have that over House.

I love the move of taking Walker in the 2nd round and then locking him up to a 4 year deal that is half as much as if you had used the 1st round pick. Now signing Giddens is a question mark to me they may have been better served to have just released him but time will tell. But having a $900,000 option in Bill Walker in 4 years compared the 2mil that Giddens has or giving the 3 year 11 mil dollar extension DET had to lay for Amir Johnson is some solid work by Ainge.

In the end the C's get 4 years of Walker and 2 of Giddens for the same amount as 4 years of Giddens contract.
