Garnett and Bogut under league review

The league office will look further Monday at the fourth-quarter incident, according to NBA spokesperson Maureen Coyle, with any fines or suspensions to be announced before both teams play again Tuesday.
On the sequence in question, Bogut's left arm caught Garnett in the mouth on the way down as the Australian center drew a shooting foul at the rim. Garnett responded with an open-handed swipe that appeared to connect with Bogut's forehead.
Contact above the shoulders is typically automatic suspension territory, but it remains to be seen how the league will respond given that neither player threw what could be classified as a punch.
In Bogut's case, Milwaukee would undoubtedly argue that Bogut's connection with Garnett was part of his shot's follow-through and purely unintentional. But the league has issued one-game suspensions -- most notably to Kobe Bryant in a January 2007 incident involving San Antonio's Manu Ginobili -- in such cases. For the past few seasons, players have been warned during each team's annual preseason seminar with NBA referees that they will be responsible for any contact with their elbows, intentional or not.
The league took a hard-line stance earlier this week when assessing penalties after Wednesday's Phoenix-Houston scuffle, presumably to send a message of deterrence early in the season. Rockets guard Rafer Alston (two games), the Suns' Matt Barnes (two games), and Steve Nash (one game) all received suspensions for their roles in that shoving match.

I thought it was kind of ticky tack when it happened. KG is given more latitude than probably any other player in the league so this is most likely about Bogut who had two flagrant fouls last season. On the other hand if it was Perk he would be in for it he needs to chill out a little he has turned into Sheed Jr. with 6 tech's already this season.

^^Good point. Bogut's shot was cheap, though...so his ejection was deserved...

Bogut hit KG on the follow-through on his layup. You can't expect a person going full force towards the basket on a layup/dunk to stop his arms in mid-air.
KG's shot to the throat was obviously not accidental.
That said, I won't be shocked with whatever happens regarding the penalties. Stern has proven again and again that this is a superstar/market biased league.

KG seems to get the benefit of the doubt from the refs, though...case in point, the scuffle with Zsa-Zsa on the Hawks last playoffs...

Bogut does this routinely. If the league looks at other clips they will Bogut does this all the time; it's no accident.

Does what routinely? Hit someone on a layup/dunk follow-through after getting fouled? My guess is you have zero evidence to support that claim.

He knew exactly what he was doing...

Hey Bulls fan here. Just from my point of view, Garnett seems to get away with a lot. Every Celtics game I watch it seems like he's getting into it with some player, and he's all heated and intense. Now I didn't see the play between him and Bogut. Yet from what it sounds like, Bogut's hit took place through the flow of the play. Garnett's hit sounds like an obvious retaliation to something that wasn't even a clear attack on him. However, I wouldn't be surprised if there was more to it than this. I'm sure Bogut didn't make much of an effort to "avoid" hitting Garnett, whether he saw it coming or not. But that's really irrelevant.
Still, Garnett seems like he is crossing the line from being intense to being a hothead. There should be a poll to see which guy big men dislike more: Garnett or Nocioni. I think it might turn out closer than you would expect

The physicality in the NBA is getting out of hand, again. Every player believes that they're exempt from blame or fault. Yeah, but it's
someone's fault.
As for Garnett, this could be a situation where the punishment dealt to the players (technical foul) during the game should be it. If not, perhaps the league suspects there could be tension or even retaliation in a future meeting between the two players. Maybe their objective is to diffuse it before it starts. I don't know, I didn't see the game. But, it must be more to this if the league finds it necessary to review the incident further.
The Suns did most of their work without Shaquille O'Neal. He had scored 12 points and was having his way inside until he was ejected midway through the second quarter.
Rodney Stuckey drove the ball right at O'Neal. O'Neal met him in the air and the force of the collision threw Stuckey hard to the floor.
"The laws of physics state that a body in motion stays in motion," O'Neal said. "And if you have two objects meet in the air, the smaller object is going to fall much harder. I've never been the type of player to take anyone out. I was going for the ball. He fell and added a little bit to it at the end. The referees looked at how he fell, I think."
The referees, who called it a flagrant-2 technical and ejected O'Neal, disagreed. They validated the ruling by using instant replay.
"We got together and we felt -- first of all, a flagrant-2 has to have a wind-up and a follow-through and be not only unnecessary but we feel it's excessive," referee Ken Mauer said through a pool reporter. "We thought it followed all three of those. We felt he wound up, he hit him and then pulled him down. We felt after reviewing it that it was more than necessary. We felt it was excessive."
O'Neal was livid and chased after Mauer on the court. Coach Terry Porter, the former Pistons assistant, tried to restrain O'Neal, and O'Neal showered him with a verbal barrage as well before finally leaving the court.

It looked like Bogut was trying to cheapshot KG without the refs noticing. He's like an australian ninja.

That was no "follow through", it was a straight cheapshot by Bogut. That said, if they suspend him and don't suspend KG for retaliation something is wrong with the league. Hopefully nothing comes of it, it's not a friggin tickling match out there, it's a physical game. Let the refs hand out the T's and forget the rest.

It actually didn't look to me like a cheap shot by Bogut. More of a delibrate lack of effort to avoid unintentional contact, if anything. I actually didn't think he deserved a T.
Neither player did anything worthy of a suspension IMO, although I thought KG earned his T.
Calderon and Zaza Pachulia both left their games against us with minor injuries (Calderon - hamstring, Pachulia - I think his shoulder). Lets keep an eye on Bogut.

The league has become soft. This wouldn't even be brought up 20 years ago.

So KG is gone for the Knicks game. I did not see that coming at all. I thought maybe a fine but jeez, the league really is soft. I can only imagine how long Shaq SHOULD be suspended then for his flagrant on Stuckey.
