Q: What about the trend of signing veterans late in the season that Boston started with P.J. Brown? I hear that Sam Cassell is already trying to convince the Celtics to bring you in after the All-Star break.

A: Sam actually called me about a month ago. I was down in San Diego training, just trying to do something to stay in shape. Sam said: "I talked to Doc [Rivers]. He's thinking about bringing you in at the end of the season, so make sure you stay in shape." I said, "That's fine about Doc, but who is that GM in Boston?" I don't think that's gonna work out.

[Ed's note: Horry was obviously referring to longtime nemesis Danny Ainge.]

Q: I know you're trying to downplay it here, so I'll say it: If this turns out to be the end, shouldn't you retiring be a bigger deal with a little more hoopla, even though you've always told us you're a low-key guy?

A: That's happened a lot of times. For as much as I accomplished, I think there's been times I got screwed over in some way, like the way I was treated by some of the refs. Even Nike. I've been a Nike guy for 16 years and once I looked at their website … I'm in the league and I didn't even know some of the guys who were on there instead of me. So looking back, I got screwed over sometimes as far as being recognized. But at the end of the day, you can ask any of the players that I played with or any of the coaches that I played for -- except Danny Ainge -- and I bet they say, "I loved that guy." Overall I didn't get some of the things I wanted to get recognition-wise, but I got the respect of my peers.

I could definitely see Doc Doc being interested in Horry. But I forgot about the incident between him and Ainge. Anybody remember this?

On August 19, 1996, Horry was traded to the Phoenix Suns along with Sam Cassell for former NBA Most Valuable Player Charles Barkley. Horry had an on-court altercation with coach Danny Ainge, during which Horry threw a towel in Ainge's face.

The incident led to Horry's suspension and trade to the Los Angeles Lakers on January 10, 1997, for Cedric Ceballos.

Yes I remember it and Horry is done anyway. If anything, we need PJ back. Big Baby isn't long enough to cover certain guys in the post.

He sounds like a Danny type of guy! It's water under the bridge and I'm sure if big shot got a chance to add another ring to his illustrious collection he'd do it.

I'll take PJ if he's available and willing, but if Horry is rested and in shape, well sure. He's got length, hits the clutch shots and is a master of mind games. In other words, he was Posey before Posey was Posey.

PJ is bigger, but he's a year older than Horry. It's arguable who's more done. Half a year off and 10-12 mpg in the playoffs would be fine for either.

I remember Ainge as being a bit of an agitator, the list of players who got upset with him is probably a lot longer than the list of players who didn't.

I'm not really a fan of late season rent-a-wrecks. Surely Powe and Davis being in shape and knowing the offense and defense setups are better options than an out of shape Horry coming in and ad libbing. Horry shot less than .200 in 15 playoff games last year, there must be better alternatives than dragging him off the couch. If not, lets stick with what we have.

I guess the fact that Horry could stretch the defense like Posey did with shooting 3's would be something to consider. You have to wonder why San Antonio soured on him as a red flag however.

Horry is a perimeter player. He's too soft to play the 4/5 and too old/slow to play the 2/3. The only thing he could add would be 3 point shooting, but the liability he'd present on D would outweigh this benefit.

We need another PJ-type player. Someone who'll do the ugly work and can still hit a short jumper. It's really too bad McDyess isn't interested.

Joe Smith is hopefully going to get bought out this season. He'd be a great add to the front court.

We're fine at the backup PF position. If we bring in another big, it needs to be somebody longer (with a pulse... that leaves you out, POB) that can play backup C.

Just say no to the biggest ring chaser in NBA history. This guy earned one of his rings and rode the coat tails of stars to the rest. I absolutely despise Horry and hope we never sign him.

Well, Horry was actually responsible for 2 of his teams winning titles---The Lakers were FINISHED against the Kings,and Horry hit that miracle 3 pointer to even get them back in that series-which they won...Then, a couple of years later-he was the ONLY Spur playing well in the WCF, to get them to the finals---I don't think he's a ring chaser.

He might be done now---but he would be WIDE open playing with our team,so-who knows.

watching horry play for the spurs, he looked really finished.. might have been because the spurs looked crap as well but he looked like he had played his last useful game to me.

Adding Horry would be a very smart move. He isn't a what he used to be, but this guy can really play. In his prime he would get matched up one on one with Duncan and defend him better than anyone else in the league according to The Fundamental himself. Much like Posey, Horry is a player who really understands the game and always makes the right decisions. Need a big rebound? Need a guy to take a key charge? Want someone to plant in the corner and spread the floor who always shows up in big situations? Horry is your man. He'll even occasionally pump-fake and fly in for a thunderous dunk that might make you tip over backwards in your chair. He can even take out Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw for critical playoff games. He's a big body and the consummate role-player, and on a team with KG, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce he'd have no problem fitting in.

Horry is an absolute legend and probably my favorite player of the past 10 years. I would be thrilled to get him on the team. I was also at the game where he threw the towel at Danny haha. It happened with approximately 7 minutes left in a game when Danny pulled Horry out of the game. The Boston fans defended Danny and were pretty animated towards Horry while he was on the bench for the rest of the game. It was a stupid move by Horry, but I'd say his reputation over the years more than makes up for it, and it was over ten years ago anyways. And really, what was Danny thinking pulling a young Horry from the lineup in the fourth quarter anyways?!

Also, just to add one more thing to what I already said, I don't think Horry would be coming in to replace James Posey at the 3/4 slots and take significant time from Tony and Leon. At this point he's done logging huge minutes. He could get in and defend post players in a small ball lineup and help spread the floor when needed. Although I've enjoyed watching Big Baby get 18mpg while shooting 32% from the field this season, we'd be much better keeping him as far away from the court as possible and getting another big man like PJ, Horry, or McDyess who actually has the skill set to make the perimeter shots than Baby has been launching all season.
