Kevin Garnett has been going after smaller guys, including Toronto's Jose Calderon and Milwaukee's Luke Ridnour, and it's starting to hurt his rep. One executive said of Garnett, "He's nothing but an instigator." With several teams complaining about Garnett's antics in recent weeks, the league has taken note. New York Daily News

The final stage of this becoming a league of sissies.....Actually, it looks as if the League has told the refs to watch Perk/KG/Powe...and call EVERYTHING they can possibly call on these guys....Look at all the Techs that have been called!!....The weaker teams cannot compete, so they bitch to the League for help....arrggggh.

The team can and will use this for a positive. Make this a US vs Them issue to motivate the team. This will unify the team even more as you saw today. The team will rally around KG. It's the best thing that could happen....sharpen the teams focus.

Boston doesn't need this as motivation not when you're the defending NBA champions and own one of the two best records thus far in the league. Garnett will calm down at some point and the league doesn't view him as a constant problem. On the other hand, Perkins draws a lot of attention to himself by referees throwing his arms up in protest of every infraction he's whistled for. I do believe the referees watch Perkins closely but I also feel that Perkins needs to reel himself in and watch the replays. Sometimes, he's wrong... Perkins is like the Vince Wilford on the Celtics. I mean not in terms of talent but in regards to the regular scrutiny they both can find themselves under from the officials.

Artest pulled down Pierce's shorts and NBA did nothing.

I don't understand why someone doesn't take him aside and slap some sense into him. He's been doing that his whole career, and all it does is hurt the team. At some point he's going to have to grow up and stop making a fool out of himself after every whistle that goes against him.

Vince Carter taunted after his reserve dunk against Toronto in the overtime. It was a major insult to the Raptors fans.

Re: League keeping eyes on Garnett
This is hilarious. Dikembe Mutumbo did his finger-wag after EVERY shot he blocked every year since he's been in the league, often in plain sight of the officials, and never, ever gets T'd up. LeBron flops, grimaces, and whines to the refs on every missed shot near the hoop and never gets T'd up.
Antoine reacted to calls against him in ways that would make Perkins say, "dude...get a grip."
Nate Robinson CONSTANTLY talks trash...where are all his technicals?
This league is trying to suck all the competitiveness out of the action, and as usual, it's the fanbase and personnel of the team we just bitch-slapped that cries the loudest.

Re: League keeping eyes on Garnett
I am hoping this is just another article from the NY press after hearing the Knicks complaining after the game this week.
Q and Randolph are your typical spoiled sports stars blaming someone else for their problems. How does Randolph get off shooting 5 for 15, and Q get off shooting 3 for 10, both play horribly, and then pass the blame for losing onto the Celtics talking trash. League keeping eyes on KG, maybe the NY press should be keeping their eyes on their players performance and stop going for the misdirection play on behalf of two "take no responsibility" bozo's.

David Stern , if you want the Lakers to win the 2008-2009 NBA Championship Trophy so bad - just lock the players out and give the trophy to the team with the best record .
Otherwise, bug off.
This cracks me up. The 2007-2008 Celtics brought team basketball back to the NBA. Is it our fault teams like Toronto and Houston are softer then pillows? Seriously the reffing is bad enough in this sport, now the league is going after the number one team oriented player in the NBA.
gtfo stern. for realz.

This is just a throw in from the New York press hat is trying to fill space. The New York guys love this kind of silly stuff. This is likely from a source with the Knicks, and likely menas that the Kinicks complained and that the league said "we'll keep an eye on it." and likely means nothing. THe assertion that his "reputation is being hurt" by being the same guy that he always has been is stupid. The guy won the most all star votes last year, sold the most jerseys, and won a ring. His rep is fine. (I should mention I live in Brooklyn.)

EXACTLY what I was thinking earlier----You just know Stern and his Corporate buddies want a LeBron/Kobe Finals....Giving the C's all these Techs and suspending KG might just be enough to keep the C's away from the best record and Home Court Advantage versus either team....Hopefully our "team" will use this for motivation.

Re: League keeping eyes on Garnett
It is true that KG tends to pick on guys who can't fight back. He once attacked Wally Szczerbiak while Wally was on the massage table, he sucker-punched a rookie (Rick Rickert) in training camp in Minnesota. He punched Francisco Elson in the balls in the playoffs. He seems to be a guy who thinks he's harder than he really is.

Re: League keeping eyes on Garnett
The league stands to make way more money if it's the Lakers and Celtics again and you guys know that. But I don't agree with you guys saying the league wants the Lakers to win the title, hell if you wanna go tit for tat look at the number of games the Celtics have played already (15)..............seems to me like a head start for getting the best record, I'm just saying.MaxwellSmart wrote:ek da shrek wrote:David Stern , if you want the Lakers to win the 2008-2009 NBA Championship Trophy so bad - just lock the players out and give the trophy to the team with the best record .

No ****. Waah waah waah NBA and other teams. They are like the Indianapolis Colts. Couldn't beat the Patriots so got rules changed (receiver/cornerback contact) and cheated (pumped in crowd noise, jacked up heat in dome during 2007 AFC championship game) to win. Is this what it's going to come down to? If you can't beat 'em, cheat 'em? In this case, rig the refs against the C's? LAME!
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

There used to be few complaints about Red's victory cigar, but then they started winning Championships and all of the complaints came in. People don't like winners, so they make complaints like this. I'm not at all surprised, and I don't think this will change the team at all.

The Celtics have played harder opponents and several more games than the Lakers have. The Lakers play several home games in the immediate future against rather easy opponents. Wouldn't it help the Lakers more and hurt the Celtics rather than vice versa?
