Should we bring in Mutumbo or Mourning?

Post#1 » by cfan79 » Mon Nov 24, 2008 6:15 pm

We could use some depth at the Center position and add some height as well. Don't get me wrong I love Powe and Baby I just think it would be best to have another player above 6 foot 7. For when we matchup against Ilgauskas and other bigs.

Mutombo first choice, Mourning would be good also. Both are very unlikely. I don't think Deke wants to leave Houston and ditto for Zo and Miami. If they come back it will probably be for their old squads.

I can understand why you'd want to wait for P.J., but if you have a player like Mutumbo/Mourning in for garbage minutes your less apt to feel nervous then you would O'Bryant.

I like Mutombo but I don't see him playing here. It seemed like he only wanted to play for Houston. I could be wrong but we should just leave the roster spot open for PJ. I have a feeling he'll be back.

Definitely. Any of these 3 will do. Obviously PJ would be my first choice but I doubt he will come back...Hopefully after the allstar break we can add a veteran center to this team. We need height!

BTW, I saw Deke yesterday at PHI-GSW game. He looked young and ready!

I've seen his birth certificate, he's actually gotten younger on that too.

I would love to have him for just pure comedy. His voice is hysterical and besides that the dude is just a good person. He's done so much for his country over the years. He's one of those players I can never dislike.

Neither-----I like Obies chances of getting things done against other 7's

For peace of mind though----just wait for PJ, why would you doubt his ability to return and contribute; its exactly what he did last year

We'd have to release someone to bring one of the rentals in, I believe we should let Danny work this for another 30 games in case he can swing a trade of some assets for an upgrade over Mutumbo or Mourning.

Has Mourning even been medically cleared to play yet?

Mutombo would be ideal but he has stated he doesnt want to play in a cold weather city.

Mutumbo is not worth major discussion. He wil likely only play for Rockets.

Mourning is the guy we need. I think it all comes down to A if he is healthy and B how Miami is doing. He could come here if Miami looks to have no playoff ambitions come midseason.

I don't think either guy would come in. Maybe Mourning if the Heat were not looking good late in the season.

I don't like waiting for PJ. When push comes to shove he wasn't that great last year he isn't getting any younger, and his veteran experience won't be as important this time around.

I wouldn't mind Joe Smith if he were to become available. He'd be a solid pickup. I'd love Rasho Nesterovic but doubt he gets bought out...but you never know he's expiring and could request it or could get traded and then request it.

No. Because from what I'd read in the past regarding them. They both desire to return to their previous/former teams.

Of the two, I would go after Mourning. But, Mourning's no taller than Perkins; they're both like 6'9'' probably out of shoes. It's likely their long wing spans that give them the perception of appearing to be standing taller.

I don't think we can get any of 'em. Deke said he wants to stay in Houston, as did Zo, and PJ is retired.

None of the above.

Zo or DM would be great, but let's be realistic here; Zo is coming off a 25 game season, and DM is coming off a 40 game season. This isn't like PJ Brown last year where he was in perfect health and played a lot of games right before he retired. So while I'd love to have a Zo or DM playing 15-20 mpg off the bench, I think the chances of them being healthy enough for that to happen are slim. As for PJ, ehh, I guess that'd be OK, but I'm not sure he's actually an upgrade over Baby (or even POB, for that matter). Maybe if he'd kept playing all year to try and build off his decent performance in the playoffs that'd be one thing, but let's keep in mind that he was pretty terrible prior to the Cleveland series, where he finally shook off the rust. To have him try to come back again like last year, but this time even further removed from the last time he played a full year seems like a less than perfect option.
