I almost forgot what a GREAT PLAYER Manu Ginobili is!!!

Post#1 » by Bruiser » Thu Nov 27, 2008 2:45 pm

Hey yo!

I know this post might not belong here but I had to share my thoughts with you guys......
It has not taken too long to make me realize what I, somehow, almost forgot.
What a terrific, exciting and great player is Manu Ginobili.

He is my ALL-TIME favourite non Celtic player.
His brains, skills and competitive spirit are simply off the charts.

What a player!!!

Any thoughts? Kind regards.

Even though he was more raw at the time IMO his rookie and sophmore year were pretty close to the most exciting exciting basketball I have ever seen. Every other play would be an incredibly high risk gamble that he usually pulled off. It was like he was playing a completely different game. Unfortunately he has sort of toned down the flashiness.

What I don't understand is why an extremely talented player like him would resort to flopping all the time. I remember him saying he intentionally grew his hair long so he can catch the refs' attention more frequently when he flops. :nonono:

Please. Even though he is gone, Posey flops as much as anyone to draw a charge. And Pierce throws his head back on minor contact to ensure he gets calls.

It is part of the NBA game now and Manu is just one of many who are good at/do it a lot.

When I think of GREAT, I think of Bird, Jordan, McHale, etc.... and etc certainly does not include Manu.

In my book Manu is way better than Wade, TMac, Carter, Kidd, Kobe, Anthony or Iverson in their primes, just to name a few.

And even if I might agree that Lebron has an overall greater impact on the game I like Manu better than James.

Better shooter: Manu, no doubt
Better handles: Manu
Better slasher: I think is a tie but I even would admit Wade by inches
Better defender: I think is a tie but I even would admit Wade by inches
Better passer: Manu by far

Ok. Here we go...

2007-2008
NBA EFFICIENCY PER 48 MINS STATS: Kobe: 32.79 Manu: 30.84
NBA FG %STATS: Kobe: .459 Manu: .460
NBA 3FG %STATS: Kobe: .361 Manu: .401
NBA FT %STATS: Kobe: .840 Manu: .860

I don“t think my point is that crazy, indeed.

I agree to a certain extent that Ginobli needs to be mentioned amongst the great wing players of this generation. He's certainly had a much brighter career than Vince and Tracy. He's tagged along with a great big man for multiple championships while being the primary clutch player (see Kobe). He's won big in international competition. In terms of raw skills and BBIQ I think he's somewhere between Kobe and Wade. Wade is the best athlete of the three and Kobe is the most skilled overall. But I prefer Ginobli's awkward style, unselfishness, and toughness to Kobe's flash... though I wouldn't go so far as to say he's better. Currently I'd probably take Wade over Manu but Manu has definitely had the better career so far.

In many ways I think that public opinion around Manu is very similar to that of Paul Pierce, never quite getting their rightful due as top 5 wing players in their generation (Kobe, Wade, Lebron, Pierce, Manu).
