Ga Ga over LAL

Post#1 » by celtics792244 » Sat Nov 29, 2008 7:37 pm

I, for one, am sick and tired of every stinking commentator sucking the L A Fakers toesies. Yes, the Westernern conference is made up up some better teams, but that is to say that there are no great teams over there (although the Easteren Conference is kicking the West rear so far). I mean to say there are some nice teams: Dallas, Phoenix, San Antonio, ect... but with the exception of Denver, there are no Detroits, or Cleveland. The Fakers SHOULD have the record they have.

Who did the Fakers only loss come to?!?! DETROIT! We blew them out twice now. I am scared to death with Cleveland. Wally is (I believe) in the last year of his contract and they are going to get a NICE player before the trading deadline. I believe that Boston, Cleveland (pre Wally trade), Detroit THEN the Lakers, and Denver are the top 5 teams in that order. Yet every commentator and national sports writers seem to think that they are THE TEAM to beat. Because of Wilt Jabbar Bynum.

Truth is, with the exception of Kobe, NO ONE on the Lakers showed any balls in the Finals last year when the pressure is on. Gasol? Disappeared. Odum? Did he even play in the finals? Oh yeah, he had some highlights (most noteably in game 4 when they were ahead 20+ before our comeback). The Fakers have ALOT to prove, not here in the regular season, but in the playoffs. Til then they are the Fakers. Let's see how they fare against Boston, Cleveland, and Detroit in the regular season before they are "number 1" in the power rankings. So far they are 0-1 in 6 games against these 3 teams. I can't wait til Christmas.

On an off note, I read the posts everyday, but don't post very often. I would like to chime in on the IverTYson practice thingy. BIG DEAL! Let it go. It was Thanksgiving. They are men, NOT boys. I remember reading McHale missed the team flight to NY on Christmas eve and instead chose to fly out Christmas morning. Team was going to fine him but Red stepped in and said they would do nothing of the sort. That is how you build loyalty. Certainly not what NY is doing with Marbury this year.

Lakers are good---but they've had the biggest CAKE schedule of any team so far...and it only gets sweeter for them---it's like the schedule makers wanted them to have the best record this year....cause Home court advantage is the only chance they have against the C's.

It never ceases to amaze me. After everyone and their momma said the great LA Laker machine would just run over us in the Finals last year we killed them. It took 6 games but it could've very easily have been a sweep. And now this year again when it's asked who the best team is AGAIN we are just looked over without hesitation by the know-it-all talking heads. It's hilarious. We're the defending champs, we're 15-2, again the best defense in the league and still it's all about the Lakers. How many times do we need to beat these guys in order for people to see what's been in front of their faces all year??

We're definitely a better team right now, but the Lakers are better than they were last year. A Finals rematch wouldn't be nearly as one-sided as last year. They are tougher, better defensively, and have a deeper bench than last year. Yes, their schedule has been easy, but in the end everyone has to play the teams they have to play, that's not decided by the league. Their hard games will come. Our schedule has been somewhat favorable too.

I don't think anyone has ever won a championship 20 games into the season. What counts is how you're playing at the end, not how you play at the start.

I'd say Portland is one of the 5 best teams right now. I don't pay much attention to what the experts say, but the Lakers have only one loss so I can understand why they'd be talked about highly. I do wish the Celtics would get the attention a defending champion should receive, but there's not a lot you can do about it. I wish people stopped using the term "Fakers" on this board, but that's just my opinion.

To the OP, really? You think Denver is a Top 5 Team? :o

And how much of an easier schedule have we really had?

Boston has played, Detroit twice, Toronto twice, Cleveland and Houston once

L(Fakers) have played, Houston, New Orleans, Detroit, Phoenix

That's 4 vs six and I wouldn't call Toronto exactly OMGzzzsss, your team blew them out the 2nd game.

And If you wanna include Denver (TOP 5, ) then we've played them twice also.

And the Big Markets always get more attention, look at the Knicks, they suck like Sh!... and they're getting so much attention.

In Kefa's way this thread is

I was looking at the Laker's schedule and there has been multiple times this season where they have had 4 DAYS REST between games. Wow ...! 4!

That being the case, they're the best out West but I would like to see them do a lil more back-to-back games before I'll be amazed by them.

Boston & LA then there's the rest of the league.

The Lakers have also only played 14 games, and we have our 18th game tonight. There's only 2 teams in the west that's played as few of games as the Lakers. In the East, the wiz have played 13, and the nets have played 14. So 25 teams have played more games than the Lakers, I'd guess that their schedule will get busier in the coming weeks and they won't be able to rest up as much. Mike and Tommy said that our recent 8 game stretch was unlike any they've ever seen in terms of scheduling. Tonight is our 5th b2b of the season.

Agreed. Celtics are the Champions, end of story. At the end of the year, the "experts" will learn. Cs are best!!!

I think The Lakers are getting the love because they have had one of the hardest schedules so far this season while maintaining the best record and largest win margin in years:

Look at number of games and when they are being played. Please look at the entire picture or you will be looked upon as being a troll. Thank you.

It's said the Finals could easily have been a sweep last year. But they could even more easily have been 3-3 after six games.

For injuries there are Bynum and Ariza on one side, Ray Allen's ankles on the other.

For chemistry there's the fact that LA made it's big personnel change mid-season, not in the off-season. But Boston's change was bigger overall.

Frankly, the main point is, as some commentators note, that Boston and LA are so good that few teams in the league can hope to catch them BOTH, barring a bicoastal plague of injuries. Cleveland, Orlando, Detroit, and a few Western teams have something to play for. But if I had to make an even-money bet between "Celtics or Lakers" and "The rest of the league combined" to win the championship, I might go with "Celtics or Lakers". Last year's finalists have both continued right where they left off.

The media talks about the Lakers because the Lakers are freakin' good and have the best record in the NBA. Are you really so petty that hearing another team get credit bothers you?

Please don't call other posters "petty" for their opinions. Last time I checked, this is a Celtic board, so I would expect disdain when the national media is drooling over the Lakers and not really even mentioning the Cs, not that I really give a rat's ass, but others do. You calling them petty is going to start a flame war which I don't really want to deal with. And, being a mod, I would think you would know better. And technically speaking, given the number of games played, the Celtics are the best team.

The media have been wetting their pants since the Gasol trade last year. Don't give me that it started this year. Like I said, Cleveland is a better team right now than LA. Lakers play 6 games against Boston, Detroit, and Cleveland for the year. Thus far they are 0-1. We ARE 3-0. And like I wrote in the original post, LA can be a fantastic regular season team. BUT one cannot deny that some players 'disappeared' in the Finals. Their balls shrank to the size of raisins. These players still remain on that roster. WHO knows how they will perform if they get into the same position this year. They DO have a poor track record with past performances that when they are pushed they fall. This is a good indicator that they will wilt again. Sasha (I love this name, do we have a Fi-Fi) couldn't even run behind Ray Allen and deny a shot. LOVED IT when Van Gundy said he was irritated with his defense......Now all of a sudden they are a great defensive team!!! I'll believe it when I see it. Looking forward to kicking their arrsssessss on Christmas. Peace.

The Strength of Schedule rankings take all this in consideration except for the # of games played. All teams get to play 82 games and the Lakers are a bit higher than average on Back to Backs this year.

As for where, they've played at home 9 times, the Celtics 10.

So the Strength of Schedule ranking looks pretty on target to me, thank you.

We're pretty confident that the playoff series results will be on target again this year as well.

But you can own the Strength of Schedule rankings.

Thank you.
