League and Ref Attitude

Seems to be a directive from above to stop the C's from being over shell we say into the game....

The Celtics were assessed five technical fouls by referee Bob Delaney's crew against Orlando, bringing their season total to 39. "I am concerned because we are at 39 and the next team is at 25," Rivers said. "I don't know what it is but somehow we've got to do a better job." Rivers said the Celtics' spirited play and support from the reserves has gained the attention of officials. "Part of our makeup is our energy, and we're not going to stop being that," said Rivers. "We're an emotional team, that's part of our makeup. We can't get it to the point where we're getting techs, but you can't legislate guys having energy and having fun with each other. We're having refs, before games, now tell our guys to sit down, or stop standing up. And I'm thinking, that's a good image. When you are looking at a game and you see a team cheering and standing up, and then you look at another bench and they are all sitting down, which image would you want? So, I don't get that whole thing. So, I'm not going to legislate that." Boston Globe

Doc seems to say.....**** em.....we are gonna be we 8-)

here's more

Against Orlando, Sam Cassell was ejected from the bench; Kevin Garnett was involved in a double-technical call with Orlando's Dwight Howard; Kendrick Perkins received his ninth technical of the season; and Rajon Rondo received the second technical of his three-year career. "Rajon didn't deserve it for what he said," said Rivers. "But we have to have a better feeling about the game. I saw Bob Delaney say, 'Get away from him [another official].' And Rajon walks up and says, 'Can I ask you one question?' That's all he said, and he gets a technical. But if they are saying get away from him, then get away." Boston Globe

FIXED...... 8-)

Srsly? The celtics bit is in the very last paragraph. You couldn't spare us the other 10 pages? I don't think you're even allowed to quote whole articles on here.

Wow I had to sift through a lot just to read the Celtics bit...

And that's ridiculous that the league and refs are singling out the C's now...not surprising, sadly....

This has been really OBVIOUS all season....I think that other teams are complaining to the league--If you can't beat the Celtics, get your big brother to do it.

Per http://www.nbastuffer.com/2008-2009_NBA ... Stats.html, each team tonight should get 2 technicals handed out each by Eddie Rush and Matt Boland and then 1 by David Jones that could go either way. If they are out to get the C's, then I'd put the money on over 5 tonight with the C's getting at least 3 or more of those.

Reminds me of the Colts...couldn't beat the Pats on the field, so whine to the league to change the rules and cheat in your stadium...

I think it is common in all sports for the league to instruct the Refs on what negative behaviours are to be strictly enforced in order to modify behavior, either through technical or regular fouls and calls. The enforcement being strict at the start of the season to reinforce the desired behaviour, relaxing over the season as the good behaviors become ingrained.

For example, I believe Perk is being punished for continually showing up the Refs about calls going against him with his "what, me?" antics. This is a behaviour nobody wants. When he starts aknowledging fouls he commits by putting up his hand or nodding in agreement at the Ref, his Techs will go down.

Although there is significant impact at the start of the season, I think that the T's will slow down dramatically and the ticky tack ones will stop getting called as players start getting into potential suspension territory.

Because our guys are into the game and our bench is up and cheering our floor guys on....this is wrong?
That's crazy? That's showing the other team up? bull. It's no reason for a tech for that. Nor even an instruction for the team for standing up and cheering. Trying to kill the team spirit, from the floor to the bench. 8-)

Perk is definitely being punished, I mean how can you get a tech when he is just reacting to the obvious goaltending that was called late, and all he did was point at the ref that was behind the basket (the one who t'ed him up) which had the best view and did not call it, to see if it was going to be called. Yet the same ref let Rashard Lewis berate him for a while before t'ing him up then Lewis proceeds to walk up to the ref as if looking for a fight or something (before being taken away by Hedo) and doesn't get thrown out. I love the way our guys play and I know that our guys get away with a lot of things specially KG but our guys are definitely being watched more closely.

^^I agree that T on Perk was ridiculous...the goaltending was super obvious to anyone with a brain yet the whistle was about 5 seconds LATE...
