Best of the 2006 draft in Boston tonight

With Portland coming in tonight this is a a fine moment to peek back at the 2006 draft. It's the draft that put both the Blazers and Celtics on their current happy paths.

3 out of the top 4 players from that event will be on display.

http://www.nbadraft.net/nba_draft_history/2006.html

Rating them again:
At the top is Brandon Roy (#6). Next is Rondo (#21). Then Rudy Gay (#8). Then LaMarcus Aldridge (#2).

Other pretty good players in no particular order: Millsap (#47), Ronnie Brewer (#14), Craig Smith (#36), Daniel Gibson (#42), Farmar (#26), Powe (#47), Bargnani (#1), Sefolosha (#13).

There are busts galore. This draft really shows how hard it is to correctly rate prospects entering the league.

...also in this class: Patrick O'Bryant (#9)

Rondo is the Butler.. and i like Rondo.. but u kinda going overboard saying he is the 3rd best from that draft.. and i just realized you said he is BETTER THAN RUDY GAY?!! lol.. your a great Fan man.. cuz only someone seeing the world thru green eyes can see that.. Well I hope you have your eyes glued to the screen tonight. You should, seeing how your team is making a big deal out of just another December W for us.

dude, how old are you?

i don't think it's a clear case of who's best among LMA, Gay, and Rondo, but I gotta say it's close. True floor generals who can play high-end D and are as athletic as Rondo are pretty damn hard to find. So if I was starting a team, and had to pick among those 3? i'd probably go with Rondo, just because jumpshooting big men and athletic wings, even as good as LMA and Gay, are a lot easier to find.

Hard for me to agree with something so incomprehensible, but I have to here

Top 3 in this draft were clearly Roy, Gay and Aldridge.

After that several players could compete for spot 4, among them Rondo. Though the OP still might be correct, you could say 3 of the top 4 players in this draft are playing tonight.

I might take Aldridge over Gay simply because wing players that score are easier to find than big men that block shots, score from 15ft, and can go down low.

Roy, LMA, Gay, Rondo

the rest of the draft is a bunch of decent role players that might break through late in their careers... pretty weak draft if you ask me, considering that teams pay high premiums to acquire first round picks.

Heh heh. I knew someone would take the bait.

Be patient jakjup, and the eventual truth of Rondo's preeminence shall be revealed unto thee.

Let's check in again after the game when the truth of Rondo will have set in. He alters the gsme more than LA does.

Not that LA is much lesser player, but so far Rondo has had a bigger effect on his team and is starting PG for NBA champs. Don't underestimate his value.

I think tonight could be Rondo coming out party. I mean the kid as been balling for the last two weeks now. I mean he has been balling at and all-star type level. Tonight on national TV Rondo has a chance to turn the big 3 into the big 4 from a national standpoint. He should take full advantage for Steve Blake. Roy will have his hand full with Sugar and I think this is a Paul Pierce type of night. This is going to be a fun game to be at I can't wait.

I had my doubts about Rondo but he has turned into one fine player with the C's. Here's to hoping he doesn't drop another triple double on the Blazers.

Shall we revisit this?

Who looks like the better player tonight?

Player A: 33:41 6-13 0-1 1-2 -17 0 3 0 2 1 0 0 1 13
Player B: 32:41 6-8 1-1 3-4 +27 1 8 7 2 2 0 0 1 16

And did you see that 3 at the end of the 3rd? Damn.

I just noticed, beginning the 12th Rondo faces in consecutive games: Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Mike Bibby, and Derrick Rose.

That should be fun to watch.
