OT: Another one bites the dust
Randy Wittman axed... I really wonder what McHale is even thinking. The Love for Mayo trade looks increasingly lopsided in Memphis' favor. McCants has flopped and Brewer is inconsistent. And this maybe a season in which we see a record for most coaches fired before the first half of a season. Iavaroni and Theus are also on the hot seat,

About time. McHale needs to go as well. I was happy when the Wolves selected Mayo only to be shocked when he was traded. I was surprised they gave away Chalmers as well.

Not only is Brewer inconsistent, he's out for the season with a knee injury. McCants looked good last year, I'm not sure who stole his mojo. McHale will do the coaching now, and I think he might be a good enough coach to preserve his job, unlike Isaiah.

Re: OT: Another one bites the dust
you have wonder if mchale saw some of himself in love. also, that trade from minnesota's perspective was a lot about clearing cap room. trades take a while to pan out. the DA's first antoine trade seemed like crap (lafrentz and jiri left-the-league welsch, are you serious!) for years.

Umm... I think you got it wrong. The Walker trade set this WHOLE thing in motion. Two of the picks we obtained from the trade netted us West and Allen. Raef turned into Ratliff and then KG. So the trade was just the first domino to fall.

All I know is that Minnesota has been a great trading partner the last few seasons...I wonder if McHale's replacement GM will feel the same way!

And not just with the C's...the Twins sent us Ortiz and the Vikings indirectly sent us Moss...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

McHale haven't you been in this position recently!! Coaching a strugling team after firing the coach. When did he fire flip and have to replace him on the bench, 4 years ago? Man he was a great player but I don't know how good of a GM he is.
I mean AL jefferson is nasty we all agree about that. But what does he really have around him? I like Mike Miller and thats about it for starters. WHere is the other superstar next to Jefferson. He might be playing in MEM.

Latest word is that McHale is no longer VP of Basketball Operations, and is only the coach.

exactly. it takes a while for any trade to pan out. ask celtics fans what they thought about the trade in 2004-2006 and you'd get a lot of mixed responses. ask about it now and it looks like the first move and DA's successful rebuilding.
the point i was trying to make by way of comparison is that i don't think you can judge the mayo-love trade until you see what comes of love (big men develop more slowly) and what minnesota does with their better cap situation.

also i think people have to stop thinking DA that (or any GM) has a masterplan. posts like this make it seem that people think when DA traded walker it was all part of the masterplan to get garnett and allen. DA built through the draft and played it as it came. pierce was almost traded. we almost got the number 1 pick. good managers of any enterprise plan as best they can but have to a lot of improvising to make it work. a little luck doesn't hurt either.

Mayo's numbers are barely better than Love's numbers and I think Love is a few years younger, so why are some of you acting like this what some kind of lopsided trade production wise.

As much as a liked McHale when he was in green, I hate him now. He had the chance to put a future star next to Jefferson and he blew it...

Mike Miller can make other players on his team better. It looks like Love is that type of player as well. Besides the famous outlet passes, he was 13 PT, 15 RB last game.
OJ Mayo? I haven't seen it yet. He looks good on a fantasy team. At best, its too soon to tell.

Moreover it helped Minny out big time in terms of their upcoming salary situation, and Mike Miller arguably made (or should have made) them a better team for the time being.
And Kevin Love is a year younger than Mayo

exactly, the mayo-love trade has the potential to be the best move mchale has ever made. just give it some time. as i mentioned earlier, we should remember how divided celtics fans were about DA until all his moves panned out into the team we have today. if love develops and mchale does something with their interesting with their improved cap situation they might actually put a decent team together.

I think Love will be very good in a couple of years...although it's a shame he's not a few inches taller, then he'd be dominant...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

i think you can make the argument (and i've seen it made on this forum) that al is becoming a center, especially in this league with a dearth of big men. what i think minnesota really needs a more defensive oriented big man because al is lacking in that regard. i think someone like tyson chandler next to big al would be fearsome, especially if you had a good facilitator and some good shooters.
