The Nuggets and Boston's former tryouts

Post#1 » by Rocky5000 » Mon Dec 22, 2008 4:54 am

You guys remember Dahntay Jones from preseason, 2 years ago? Well as you probably know, he's been starting for the Nuggets for the past 24 games and playing pretty well. Even though he starts he only gets 19 minutes a game, and puts up about 6 points a night. Of course, his offense isn't what we wanted him for, and it's his defense that's kept him in the starting lineup. I think Jones would have probably fit in pretty well on this team this year, but last year with Posey around, he didn't really make sense.

The other guy who Denver has is Chris 'Birdman' Andersen, who we were interested in, but we ended up picking POB over him. Andersen is averaging 5, 5, and 2.2 blocks in 17 minutes. Once again, he's not an offensive juggernaut by any measure, but he's definitely making a difference on the defensive end, and unlike POB is actually getting in games. On the other hand, when Patrick gets in games, he seems to shoot fairly well (the exact thing we seem to be looking for in a backup 5), and maybe Birdman would only be getting blowout minutes like Patrick, if he were here.

Another player, who I thought we could have given a tryout to over the offseason is Bonzi Wells. He ended up taking a contract in China that pays him about $50k a month. In his first game he scored 48 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and picked up 7 steals. If he keeps that up China will be saying "Yao who?".

Danny also liked Will Bynum and had him in training camp a few years ago. He seems to be an NBA player and has looked good in some Detroit games.
