Mutombo: It's Boston or San Antonio by New Years

Post#1 » by Gant » Tue Dec 23, 2008 11:51 pm

"The 7-2 free agent center who helped the 76ers reach the NBA Finals in 2000-01, and who says ''I will be in Boston or San Antonio by the end of the year,'' is trying to raise at least $2 million to help treat the thousands of patients who have been coming, mostly on an out-patient basis, to the hospital he has built in his native Democratic Republic Of The Congo."

A big reason Deke didn't come to Boston last year was because of the cold weather, let's see if weather still plays a part this time. I doubt San Antonio even gets to the Finals, even though it's a lot warmer there.

I hope Deke will choose a ring. He could really help Perkins as well and yeah, everyone loves the Jumbo Mutombo.

Seriously, one can hope he's motivated to go to a bigger market by just that kind of calculation.

The guy is quite money-driven, but in an utterly admirable way.

Won't match P.J. Brown's jumpshot, but in terms of length, defense & rebounding in limited minutes he's probably superior.

The man just seems such a class act, always doing things for his home country. Just the kind of guy you want to add to the team to help the young guys be better on and off the court. It would be great to see him in a Celtics uniform.

How is the team going to make room for this guy? Who is going to get traded/cut?

I'd prefer PJ Brown, but Mutombo would be a huge upgrade over Big Baby or O'Bryant.

If he chooses the Celtics there will never be a time when Boston doesn't have two pretty rough customers down low. Leon will really benefit playing next to Dikembe.

Mutombo in probably Cassell or P O'Bryant out. I am leaning towards O'Bryant, but I think Sam may just retire and stick around here.

He is still an awesome defensive player and probably knows the Thibs rotations from Houston. Our D will go from Elite to otherworldly.

Who wants to sex Mutombo?!?!?

Imagine our defense if we got him? It would be all over.

San Antonio makes sense because it's close to Houston, but a 50% chance is a great reason to be optimistic. I think he comes over to the East coast and if he does he can really help this defense, more so with experience than anything, but nevertheless, he HELPS.

I would LOVE it, if he arrives to Boston.

Maybe he comes before xmas????
