POB for Walter Herr mann (Proposal)

So I just found myself thinking - Walter Hermann is an SF/PF riding the pine in Detroit. He doesn't stand to get any PT with Amir Johnson also riding the pine, and his 2.0 mil expiring contract isn't going to be very valuable at any point this season. When he has gotten playing time over the past 2+ seasons, he has consistently shown himself to be a very reliable three point shooter / slash perimeter player (easily better than Scal). He's not known for his defense, but statistically has not been a defensive liability either. Statistically, by my calculations he's been underutilized two seasons straight, and according to Hoopshype (and his stat lines) ballhandling is one of his strengths (TOs are our biggest weakness).
He wouldn't stand to play many minutes, but he'd be a good, serviceable guy to have around for situational purposes, and one of the best three point threats we could find available for next to nothing.
Why does Detroit do this? It would seem to me that they are in less of a win-now mode (Herrmann is 29 years old with an expiring contract), they need an excuse to get Amir Johnson more PT, and Hermann is hardly playing anyway. POB doesn't look great and motivational efforts don't seem to be disappearing, but he's a young 7 footer with talent and a cheap two year contract, and Wallace/McDyess are both FAs this offseason.
Thoughts?
