Mutombo is not coming to Boston, Team eyeing Joe Smith

Post#1 » by return2glory » Sat Dec 27, 2008 10:02 am

Mutombo is not coming to Boston according to his agent.

This is what Doc said: “No, I don’t think we’re going to get him,” said Rivers. “We talked to David (Falk, Mutombo’s agent) and I would say it’s a no.

http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/bask ... g_problem/

The team is going to hold out for Joe Smith.

As I said yesterday, Mutombo alone won't help us. Mutombo's defense would help a lot, but this team needs more offense of the bench.

If I were Ainge, I would have tried to sign Mutombo and cut POB. Then I would have tried to sign Joe Smith and waive Cassell and have Cassell as an assitant coach.

I thought Smith would like to go to back to Cleveland, Maybe if he gets a buy-out he might return there which will make the Cavs more dangerous. So the best way to get him is to trade because it is known that he is available. Trade him for Scal, then Scal gets cut because of Krstic. The way I look at the Celtics right now is not balanced. 4 PG's: Rondo, Cassell, House, Pruitt. 4 PF's Garnett, Scalabrine, Powe, Davis. 2 SF's Pierce, Walker(is not used). 2 C's Perkins, O'bryant(also not used). The only balance in the Roster are SG's Ray, TA(taking ill-advised shots), Giddens. The Team need a Back-up C and a Back-up SF. Any opinion about the SF? Maybe Damien Wilkins?

Yea, after the Hou Francis trade we lost him...really a shame, we should try more because it looks like we are not pushing hard enough to get him...Joe Smith? I dont know how we will get him...

Marbury, Wells,...

At least 3 positions must be upgraded...

cut Casell
one 2 for 1 trade
one rookie trade for draft pick

Wells already signed in China. Not sure if he could break that contract or not.

I think Joe Smith would like to play in Boston. I think they could offer him a more substantial role than the Cavs (seem they already have a logjam in the front court)

I don't think we have any more #1 picks for a few years. Also, we can't do a 1 for 2 trade because that would put our roster to 16.

Mutombo, along with center Courtney Sims of the D-League are expected to workout for the Rockets this Monday. Mutombo will mostly will re-sign with the Rockets by 12/30.

If we can't get Joe Smith, We should be looking at Courtney Sims. He is teating up the D-League, averaging 22 points, 13 rebounds and 3.6 blocks per game. He is also about 6'11 and only 25 years old. He those need to get stronger but is better than POB.

I was just watching the flash-energy NBDL game and the commentator said that Courtney Sims (plays for energy) is flying to HOU tomorrow. They have a workout scheduled with Sims and Mutombo...

Yeah. Did you hear why Giddens isn't playing? I was at the Flash game last Sunday when Giddens re injuried his wrist, but he played on Friday.

No. Didn`t hear it either...

I was hoping he might be called back and play back up SG/SF instead of Tony and Scal... ;)

I'm a Cavs fan...so I spend a lot of energy trying to figure out the Joe Smith situation.

It looks like he's going to get traded..so Cle can;t get him..but I don't think you guys have the assets to get him.

Toronto, Miami, and Orlando have the best assets available and are interested in him. If he goes to Toronto...there's still a chance he'll get bought out down the line if they continue to suck... but if he goes to a florida team he wont get bought out.

If he gets bought out, (trying to be objective), I think he would sign back with us. We have triple the money available via MLE to offer him, and while him and Kg are tight..Mo Williams is Joe Smith's best friend in the NBA(at least from what i've heard)

But, I doubt either of us lands Joe.

Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said he had "a good meeting" with the agent representing Dikembe Mutombo, but that he does not expect a decision for several days as the earliest.

Since last week’s trade of Steve Francis to Memphis moved the Rockets out of position to be required to pay a luxury tax, Morey has spoken several times with Mutombo in addition to Monday’s meeting with David Falk to express the team’s interest in bringing back Mutombo.

"He is considering his options, which he has every right to do," Morey said.

Well maybe we still have a chance to get Mutombo. It is strange that he did not decided yet, maybe Houston is not so logical destination as we all think.
