Semih Erden on NBATV

Post#1 » by armageddon » Sat Jan 3, 2009 10:21 pm

Just an fyi....

Just watched a Euroleague game on NBATV with Semih playing. Hope a couple others saw it to add their opinions.

This guy looks years away from coming over. He's at least 2 years behind POB. Basically looked like a tall high schooler running around.

The good - Very tall and also very long. Runs the floor well and has a little more strength than POB but didn't use it. Good footwork, seems to be comfortable in the low post although his team didn't use it. Only had 2 shots but they were strong to the hoop moves.

The not so good - Was boxed out on every shot on his own defensive boards and just stood behind the guy. No understanding on how to block shots. Just kind of ran around on offense, never established himself to receive the ball. Played about half the game and had no impact, just 2 shots, maybe one rebound.

Just one game, and it was the last pick in the draft, but I don't see why Ainge picked this guy unless he sees him as spending several years in Europe.

That's exactly why he picked him, and why it was a good thing to do with the pick. When you have the last pick in the draft, there is no point in selecting a player who wants to play in NA. Every player not picked becomes an unrestricted free agent, and Ainge could sign any he wanted (apparently he wanted none). So you take a flier on a guy overseas, if nothing comes of it there is no waste. Given the Celtics already have 2 guys (the maximum) in the Dev League, no point in selecting another one who certainly needs time to develop there. Particularly because the guy would be taking a roster spot while sitting on the end of the bench for several years.

Why are you guys even talking about him?

I doubt he'll ever take the court or even make the roster, and if he does it'll be deep in the bench, IF.

It beats discussing the latest Marbury rumors.

Hopefully he improves. But at this point he doesn't even give me a Semih Erden.

No it doesn't. At least Marbury might actually play for the Celtics. This Erden guy will probably stay overseas with Ben Pepper and Albert Miralles.

Ok

Everyone react, there is a rumor Marbury is going to sign with the Celtics.

No wait, there is a rumor that the Marbury rumor has no validity.

Everyone react, there is a rumor that Marbury will only play out west.

No wait, there is a rumor that Marbury will sign with the Celtics again.

Everyone react, there is a rumor Marbury won't play with KG, because KG signed for too much money.

No wait, there is a quote that Marbury would like to play with KG again.

Everyone react, there is a rumor that Marbury will be bought out.

No wait, there is a rumor that the NYK won't let him sign with an Eastern Conference Team.

Everyone react, Dantoni hoping Marbury signs with Boston.

No wait, thats a quote from October when Dantoni was talking out of his ass.

Everyone react, there is a rumor that Marbury is a nut case.

Wait, that one doesn't need any discussion, we all know that.

LOL

There hasn't been that many threads on Marbury. I've broken up the monotony with my great trade ideas and polls about starting future legend Patrick O'Bryant.

He is just a trade asset Ainge may want to throw in any future trade. He may have some value because of his height.

Well, Ainge did say last year that he was like our first round draft pick this year.

Return to Boston Celtics
