Joe Smith

Post#1 » by Octolor » Sun Jan 4, 2009 6:24 am

I think this guy could be the answer to our bench front court issues.

He could provide 10 to 15 minutes a game and be a contributor in the playoffs.

The deal works with the cap for Scal, Baby and Pruitt. Its not a bad deal for Oklahoma as they obtain two decent prospects. (Although Smith's expiring deal may have more value than this package.)

This transaction would also provide the additional needed roster spot to bring in Marbury.

The second unit would look strong with Marbury, Tony Allen, Powe and Joe Smith all in the mix.

Oklahoma has too many big men, too many contracts, and they're not going to have the slightest interest in taking on Scal and Davis in order to have to buy them out. They don't have roster room to take on the 3 players. So they'd be left with Pruitt, and since they have a bunch of young PG's now, I'm not sure why they'd particularly want Pruitt.

I've tried Trade Checker many ways to try and reasonably get Smith, and haven't come up with something. I think Tony Allen and some cap filler would get it done, but it might be necessary to get a 3'rd team involved because we can't reasonably expect Oklahoma to be buying out a couple of players as part of a deal.

OKC is probably going to get a late 1st rounder for Smith.

I wonder what Oklahoma City can get for him? Can't be much. I wouldn't be surprised if OKC wants Walker and Giddens who used to play for Kansas St and Kansas.

Maybe OKC has interest in Giddens or Walker, but Boston doesn't have expiring contracts to send like Orlando...

Danny would be crazy to let that happen. I have to believe that something will be done to improve the team, whether it is Joe Smith or someone else.

Same here, we have to win a championship now and the bench is not championship quality I never thought we would miss Posey this much.

We know they like Tony Allen. So would Tony+Scal+3million cash (to cover the last year of Scal`s contract)+ 2nd rounder be enough?

I don't think it iis enough unless they have little plans to make use of capspace this offseason the one plus being that they could perhaps send Sene' remaining contract back.

One possible scenario is to send Scal/TA/Giddens to OKC for Smith/Damien Wilkins. Wilkins and Scal's deals are a wash and OKC could be interested in picking up some guys who could defend the SG spot with Durant at the 3. But there isn't much of an argument that Wilkins is any better than either Tony or Scal, so the issue is what is Joe Smith worth?
