Menacing gesture?

So I'm watching the highlights of the Rockets/Jazz game on Sportscenter. Von Wafer hits a three inside of two minutes to extend the lead for the Rockets and flashes the exact same symbol Paul did vs. Atlanta last year in the playoffs. Blood, sweat and tears right? Well what are the odds good 'ol Von gets fined like Paul did?

Actually Von Wafer has been lighting it up recently I believe. But yes, I agree, he won't be fined, because no one will care. But when paul pierce does it, the NBA is in uproar.

Here's the link to the page with the video. You have to wait all the way until the end (past the embedded commercial) to see the gesture but he's looking right at Ronnie Brewer flashing the symbol.

Let it go already.

Besides, Pierce was fined not just for the gesture, but for the context itself. If Paul Pierce hit a 3 and ran up the court flashing that sign, everyone would have assumed that he was signalling "3 points". But nope, Pierce got yelled at by Horford, then got up and chased Horford to his bench after a timeout was called. Scal had to run out and restrain him.

Again, Pierce was fined not just for the gesture, but the whole context in which it took place.

I'm completely aware of the context of Pierce's gesture but if I can't come here to bitch and moan about things like this then where can I go? It's all in good fun, just something I wanted to share.

there are plenty of bloods in the nba....Steven Jackson is on DVD's with dudes with guns and all that...

The thing is everyone flashes that when they hit a three...Paul got a bad rap but i have no idea why he flashed that in the first place...there was no way that was bc of blood sweat and tears...blood sweat and tears is not going to scare anyone...

Plus Wafer doesn't play for the Celtics, therefore no hatred from the league...

What V.W. did in that video is not the same as what Paul did. Wafer had his pal facing up, which usually just means "three". But when you hold your hand in the air, palm-down, that's a "menacing gesture".

Well, I see Odom is being investigated for grabbing his crotch...

It may have been "cool" 20 years ago when Michael Jackson did it but man... I was hoping we would all be a little more mature... (sigh)
