OT- James White

Post#1 » by return2glory » Thu Jan 22, 2009 6:58 pm

He is having a great year in the NBDL. He should be picked up by an NBA team soon. The guy is 6'7, a freak athlete, and is now a very good outside shooter. He has really worked in improving his 3 point range. He is also a good defensive player.

White, who plays for the Anaheim Arensal is scoring 25.7 points per game, averaging 4.9 rebounds, and shoots 55% from the field, 38% on 3's and 84% from the line. IMO he is better than Tony Allen and would fit our team better than Bill Walker and J.R. Giddens because of his outside shooting. While I like Walker and Giddens, I wish we had a roster spot to get James White. If we ever do a 3 for 1 trade soon, I would love to get him on our team.

One thing I forgot to mention about James White is the guy also gets to the line a lot. In 8 of his last 9 games, he has gone to the line 10 times or more.

He is also coming off a 47 point game on 1/20 and he followed that off by a 31 point game on 1/21. Over the last 2 games he is averaging 39 points a game and has taken 28 free throws.

Scal,TA+2nd for Smith then sign White. Like ya say, he shouldn't have a hard time doing what Tony has when he's been out there.

http://www.draftexpress.com/article/D-L ... -Two-3075/

It is from the D-League showcase, and talks about Skywalker, local guy Court Sims, and Flight White.

He was an awesome dunker in college, but it sounds like not much has changed in all these years. He is not very young either. I would just give Walker those minutes. He is probably better right now.

Some of his best dunks. He is right there with Jordan and VC on that front.

That's not true at all. White has improved his shooting and his range. He is leading the NBDL is scoring with nearly 26 a game. You have to be more than a dunker to do that. Plus as I mentioned, he gets to the line a lot. He is an aggressive player. He is TA's age. White just turned 26 in October.

I saw White play in December when I went to see Walker and Giddnes play in Anaheim. White looked more than a dunker to him. He looked really good then and seems to be playing even better of late.

Would love to see him on our bench. He could be our version of Jamario Moon. It'd be nice to see him somewhere in the league so he could participate in the dunk contest.

I brought his name up when the team was going through the skid. I'm with you r2g, I'd like to see the team take a closer loook at this guy.

Can't say I'd enjoy being an opposing big if Rondo was bringing the ball on the break and had James White and Billy Walker on the wings, with KG trailing. It would be fun to watch.

I wouldn't be opposed to picking up White if the Cs somehow had roster spots open and needed a 12th man.

That's a NBA 2k9 pickup right there lol. No way it happens in reality though. Anyone know if Flight White got a ring with the Spurs?

Why? We are trying to develop two raw, athletic wing types already. Do we need a third? Especially one who is already 26 freaking years old. (I said freaking not to make fun of you guys, but because i looked it up and couldn't believe he is still only in the D-League). If we didn't already have Walker and Giddens I would be fine with this, but how many D-League wings do we need on this team. And also, who do we (realistically) waive to make room for James White?

if this was the offseason i'd say sure, take a flier on the kid.

but in the middle of the season? please. there's no way he'd come in and make the rotation. it's not about offense, it's about DEFENSE. people forget that TA is our best wing defender. that's how he earns his cash. points are basically a bonus.

and also it's true we're already chock full of young athletic wings. we've got TA, Walker, and Giddens, who are all as young or younger. scoring 25 a game in the D league aint no thang. i'm sure TA could do it. walker and giddens basically were doing it before they got hurt.

i like white, i think he's an NBA player, just not a good fit for us right at the moment.

Yep. You don't bring up a D-Leaguer in the middle of the season and expect him to be a rotation player for a championship contending team. This is something OKC, Memphis, etc. should be looking into, not us.

If Tony Allen played in the D-League, he would just be beastly. Comparing one player playing in the D-League and another in the NBA is impossible. The competition is just not even close. Saying that White is better then TA right now is just pure speculation with no reasonable facts to back up this theory. In the off-season if we have an open roster spot then maybe give him a shot on an unguaranteed contract, but in the middle of the season we are only looking to add solid veterans.

I saw plenty of James White in San Antonio back in his rookie year.
Pros- athletic, pretty advanced defensively, and unselfish.
Cons- Raw offensively, needed help with his J.

I compared him to Gerald Green when I saw him in San Antonio.

If reports are true about his development than I would love to see him in Boston.

I remember him from Cinci. He is more 6'5" than 6'7" and doesn't handle the ball particularly well. He can score so if that is what you are looking for he could help but I imagine there would be a lot of TO's and busted up offense along the way. It juts so hard to tell how a game is going to translate from the D league to the NBA but you certainly would want a guy who played well over a guy who sucks.

I would say he is similar to Tony maybe a little longer, but not the ball handler that Giddens could be and not the talent that Walker is. He is also 26 years old so he isn't exactly a prospect. While someguys do just get missed chances are there is a reason that he is in the D-League.

You can't compare college white or rookie White to him now. It sounds like he's improved a lot overseas and in the d league.

he's worth a look. his athleticism and height is a perfect potential for that long, defensive sf.

If you read what I said, you would understand. I said it's to bad we don't have a roster spot open to get him. If we did a 3 for 1 trade, then I would want us to look at him. But I'd be suprised if some team doesn't sign him to a 10 day contract real soon.

You cut Sam to bring in White. Giddens is not ready, so he would remain on the NBDL anyways. Bring in White and see what he can do. I think he can help the team, I'd like to see the team take a look.
