Pargo is Available

Post#1 » by RickyDizzle » Fri Jan 23, 2009 7:24 pm

Per Wire Tap: He is about to get released from a Moscow team and is getting interest from Olympiakos, but it says there are three NBA teams interested in him, could we be one of them?

I liked Pargo as CP3's backup... he is a big time pace changing guy that can really impact a game with his speed off the bench.

Take Rondo out, put in Pargo, and theres never a chance to catch your breath against Celtics PG's.

Thoughts?

If not too costly? In a heartbeat. Instant offense off the bench.

Its an intriguing idea, but isn't he just a suped up version of Eddie? I'd like an opinion on his defense and overall offensive game from someone with a bit more knowledge. I thought Doc and Danny were looking for more a of a playmaker at the pg position than a scorer.

Another thing to keep in mind, he could just go to the highest bidder as he's not an older vet looking to latch on for a championship.

Pargo has always been my ideal backup point to Rondo...He is WAY better handling the rock than Eddie and from the times I saw him play he was lights out with the jumper...seems like a fierce competitor...I would love to get him in a celtics uniform. I feel if we added him and a Center we would be set to make our push to 18...

Way to costly, IMO. I expect Olympiacos to throw a lot of money at him. And even in the NBA teams will offer him much more than we could...

I don't think he's much of an upgrade over House, plus we can't afford him.

LMAO at the guy that said we need to keep an American team.

This is a guy from Chicago who was Chris Paul's back-up in the NBA last year.

I am not suggesting we bring in some foreign guy with no NBA experience to be the primary backup to Rondo.

Also, why should we have a team thats all Americans? Thats kind of a biggoted thing to say, there are plenty of good players in the NBA from countries other than ours. Many of these players I would welcome to the celtics with open arms.

Get a clue buddy.

As far as the other responses, you probably have a point that we couldnt afford him, but he is definitely a lot better than House. His handles are 10x better, he is faster, and pretty comparable in shooting.

Pargo = House.

What are the Celtics trying to collect PG's (House, Rondo, Pruitt, Cassell, Pargo) ?

You are insulting pgs by putting Eddie on that list. He would replace Cassell and it would mean we aren't relying on a 2nd year player in the playoffs.

Yeah Pargo would work, he can shoot, dribble, and pass. But isn't he restricted? I can't imagine too many teams can throw a lot of cash at him right now.

Depends on the money he's asking for. This guy is definitely an upgrade over Gabe or Eddie THIS YEAR. He carried the Hornets in a few games in the playoffs last year. He was the only one not scared to shoot the ball at times. Im liking the scoring punch of the bench this guy could provide, but I don't know his contract issue here in the US.

Have you seen Pargo?

Have you seen House?

If you answered yes twice, then I am flabbergasted by the statement you made. House has zero PG skills, Pargo is a great ball handler and better passer.

They are both good shooters, but the comparison ends there IMO.

Don't see why he would be restricted, he's not on a rookie contract...wasn't he an undrafted FA who has bounced around several teams as a FA before kind of establishing himself as an NBA player in New Orleans?

I just don't think he adds enough over House, of course it all means very little seeing the team can't offer anything Pargo would want in the first place.

I do think Eddie is a better shooter and defender than Pargo. But I agree Pargo holds pg skills.

Let's be clear here...Pargo is WAY better than Eddie House, yes, WAY better...only thing Eddie has on him is a quicker release. I bet if you looked up 3 point percentage they are nearly identical.

But clearly the Celtics do not feel the same way about Pargo over Eddie, lenbiasballer, because I highly doubt that they would have given Eddie the contract they gave him if they thought they had a chance at getting Pargo for a slightly pricier deal. Pargo is not worth the contract he's seeking though, which tends to indicate that he's not as good as his reputation would make him out to be.

I was reading a bunch NO fans that weren't too sad to see him go. Shot selection was an issue I guess. Didn't he play terrible in the LA series?

The guy is like House, in that neither has seen a shot they didn't like. Wouldn't mind a a gunner at the point that can bring the ball up the court. He certainly couldn't hurt, but I'm still most worried about having somebody with size (vertical) in the middle.

Correct me if I am wrong.

House has 1 ring as a backup PG on a World Championship team.
Pargo has 0 rings as a backup PG on a World Championship team.

I'm not saying Pargo is bad I'm just saying there is no need for him as long as Eddie House is on the Celtics. They pretty much do the same thing. The Celtics need a backup shooting SF and a backup big man 6' 10" or larger. They don't need their 5th PG.

Pargo plays consistently and works hard on defense. How could someone compare him to House? New Orleans looks a little weaker without him despite Posey signed with the team. Write that in the scouting report.
