Steph on ESPN
Somebody help me, I'm watching Marbury make his case live on ESPN and he's starting to make some sense. Maybe he's medicated. (Maybe I should be). He seems much more sober about the situation than in the past.
Anyway, they're still talking about going to Boston. He might be the only move we make, although I still think we could use another big. Bring on Steph and PJ.

Also, he is launching his new Starbury line today, so there are mixed motives for appearing.

Right now we need a PF / C more than a PG, especially with Gabe's play of late.

Danny and Wyc should just go to Dolan's house with a case full of cash. No way that's illegal, right?

Dolan, doesn't need the money. Walsh is being tough to change the image of the Knicks.

Really, why should the Knicks buyout Marbury? Unless he was willing to give back a significant amount of cash back ($5-$6 million) I would just let his contract expire if I were the Knicks. Donnie Walsh knows what he is doing. The Knicks are paying him to play for the Knicks, not some other team.

Re: Steph on ESPN
This is one of those cases of two idiots arguing, which makes it really hard to decide who's right. I do sympathize with Steph a little bit more than I expected, and I think that this year the Knicks' org has treated him pretty poorly, from the GM to the coach to his teammates.
However, maybe it wasn't possible for them to work him into their rotation, and the Knicks have certainly been better than expected, so I can accept that. On the other hand, purposefully holding out on the buyout makes the Knicks seem petty and cheap, which may not go over too well in attracting 2010s FAs, and I fail to see how it helps the Knicks out long term...

That's my thinking also. Or at least make him wait until after the deadline (not sure of the date) that makes him ineligable for a playoff roster to send a message to anyone else who thinks they'll pull a Marbury. Frankly, I'd let him sit and rot unless he gave back a considerable amount of the money that he has by no means earned.

The Knicks are holding out in case they can include him in a trade at the deadline. If you were the GM you would do the same thing. Buying out Marbury doesn't help the Knicks at all. Marbury has to give them something to make it worth it to the Knicks.

Re: Steph on ESPN
Stephon Marbury appeared on Sports Center on Tuesday and tried to set the record straight on his situation. He has been in contact with the Celtics, Heat and Mavericks.
"If something was to happen, I would be able to pick either of those teams," said Marbury. "So it's not do I have a verbal or did Boston give me a commitment. That's people saying what they are basically speculating on what I said. If I could get out of my deal, I'd have a chance to choose what teams that I am able to go to. Even if those teams are not there, another team might come up and try to do something. I don't know where it could go. But the whole truth of the matter is I have to be able to get out of my deal. And I'm in a deal where I'm basically locked in where I can't play basketball. I can't complain too much because they are still paying me.
"I don't believe that it's about the money," said Marbury. "I think it's about where I'm going to be playing basketball at. D'Antoni says that he doesn't mind if I play in Boston or if I played in Miami. He didn't care moving forward. I don't think it's necessarily about money. It can't be about money, whereas the Knicks, the organization itself, they're a billion dollar company, so I don't think it can be about that, especially when they owe me that money. I didn't come this year saying to the Knicks that I wanted to go in another direction. I came here ready to play. I did the exact thing Donnie Walsh told me to do. He told me to come in the best shape of my life and I did that."

Re: Steph on ESPN
I think the longer the Knicks wait the less money they are going to get from Marbury. To me the players holds all the cards. If I was Marbury and if the Knicks want to wait around until March 1 to give me a buyout I would not take it and have them pay me all of my money. The Knicks are going to look real stupid. Marbury could rest and have fresh legs for next season because why would he take a buyout close to March 1st with no real chance of even making the play-offs? If the Knicks wants to end this they should take the 1 million that Marbury is offering or they should trade him or even play him.

The Knicks hold all the cards, they can give Marbury a buyout or not. Marbury can't leave even if he wants to go.
The Knicks have to pay him $20,800,000 this year no matter what unless Marbury is willing to give some back.
If Marbury really wants to play this year and really wants a chance for a ring then he should have no problem giving back $3-$6 million. Marbury wants his cake ($20,800,000) and eat it too (buyout). I really don't expect the Knicks to give him a buyout and I wouldn't either.
