No. But, it all depends... Had Boston won the lottery two years ago and selected Durant first overall. I doubt Garnett would've been traded for. Which also suggest that Pierce would've been traded and banner seventeen wouldn't exist today.
On the other hand, Minnesota did quite well for themselves in that 2007 trade. Let's see, they'd acquired Al Jefferson, Gomes, Telfair, Gerald Green, Ratliff, two first round picks and cash considerations. Depending on who they draft this year with Boston's first round pick. I'll say, that trade was fair indeed. However, I'm not sold on Minnesota's 2008 trade. In this trade, Minnesota traded the draft rights of OJ Mayo, Antonio Walker, Jaric and Buckner to Memphis in exchange for the draft rights of Kevin love, Mike Miller, Cardinal and Jason Collins. Considering the players the Timerwolves received have had little to no impact as regular contributors. I look at the trade as basically being rookie for rookie. In that case, this didn't turn out to be that good of a trade when you see that Mayo has become a Rookie Of The Year candidate and Love is no more than a role player right now.
Jefferson needs help and Mayo could've been another offensive threat opposing teams would've to account for. At worst, Minnesota might have been wiser to trade down to select Brook Lopez. Another possible R.O.Y. candidate.

Well, Celtic coach, Clifford Ray deserves a lot of credit for helping Jefferson to mature into a more effective post player.
I think Love will be a solid NBA player but one who might not ever be worthy of his draft spot. However, having a starting power forward already and being a team desperately in need of a starting quality center. Minnesota made a mistake in that sense. That is, Love isn't ready to start quite yet and Jefferson's playing out of position at center, albeit it hasn't hurt his numbers. Moreover, I compare this 2008 trade to the 1995 draft of Washington. Washington selected Rasheed Wallace, a power forward, that year when they'd already had a starting quality power forward in Juwan Howard who'd been selected in the draft the year before. Granted one would say: You draft the best player available. But, sometimes logical thinking says you draft for need unless that player who's available is better than the player you've starting at the same position. In Minnesota's case, Love isn't a better player than Jefferson and I doubt he ever will be. Not to say Mayo is a sure thing. Because he still must beat out Rose for R.O.Y. honor and he's playing a lot more minutes in Memphis. However, this is the second time that Minnesota has traded the draft rights of a better player (compared to the player/rookie they'd gotten back) away to another team. Remember, Brandon Roy was originally drafted by Minnesota in 2006.

Re: Would you guys take back Al Jeff for Garnett now?
No Garnett, no suffocating defense
No Garnett, no change in team culture
No Garnett, no window for Al to improve while PP and Ray are closing in on the time window
No Garnett, no inside-outside game between the PF and C
and, most importantly,
No Garnett, no ring
Al is a huge favorite of mine. The best post moves since McHale. Still, the trade was a good one.

No. I love his low post play and sometimes we are missing this part of the game but Garnett's defense and length overshadowes all individual skills Al brings to the table.

I love big Al but KG brings a completely different mentality to this team. At this point KS is much more valuable to us and I expect that for at least another 3 years.

I'd do it, but not this year. Not next year. The year after, that'll do it.

Garnett is a future HOF and he is the main reason why we won a championship last year. Al Jeff is an all star player but not the player that will bring you a championship. And to be honest, as much as I like Al, I would still pick a few other players that are better down low players than him.

I'll take KG all day. What Al brings to the table is offense and what KG brings to the table is offense and Defense. KG is a leads by his example and he change the culture of the Boston Celtics back to a championship team. I'm sorry if Al Jefferson was in the East I can't see how he would get past a Dwight Howard lead Orlando team. Al can be a great offensive player just like Carl Malone but Carl Malone never won a championship and neither would Al Jefferson if he was with the Celtics.

Re: Would you guys take back Al Jeff for Garnett now?
No way.
WhatΒ΄s the value of KG for this team?
He is a great passer. He is a great outside shooter. He is a great defender. He is a leader.
Beyond the stats, he is the best PF this team could have right now. I would swap KG for no other player right now.
The greatness of this team is the way itΒ΄s built. Every single piece improves the other pieces so the total is greater than the sum of the parts.

Re: Would you guys take back Al Jeff for Garnett now?
NO.
Big Al is great, make no mistake, but KG is the glue that holds this team together. Believe it or not, we are not the most talented team in the NBA. We don't even have a legit MVP candidate at this point. The only way we win is by being great on defense, and by playing unselfish ball. KG is the catalyst for both those things. Without those aspects alone, we are a 50-win team.
Of course in 5 years Al will be better than KG. Maybe in 3. But we've got a good chance at another title or two in the next few years. KG is key in that. It's not about numbers, it's about defense, intensity, and attitude.

Re: Would you guys take back Al Jeff for Garnett now?
Tally up another no, no second thoughts. I loved Big Al when he was here, I'm rooting for him in Minny, but KG is still the better of the 2. Defense wins championships, and Al has a long way to go to catch up to KG in that regard. You don't usually talk about intangibles with future HOFs, that kind of talk is usually saved for the Scalabrines of the league, but it's undeniable that KG brings much more to the floor than just offense and defense. His leadership, unselfishness, work ethic, and fanatic intensity have all rubbed off on the C's and they are the real reason we hung a new banner and have a shot at more.

Would the Lakers trade Kobe Bryant for OJ Mayo since he's younger and one of the best up and coming shooting guards?

Re: Would you guys take back Al Jeff for Garnett now?
Right now, no we have as good a chance as anybody this year, After the season, I would, Big Al and rondo plus 1-2 other pieces could contend in a couple of years,if Pierce is still around just 1 more piece and they would have a chance at a title pretty quickly.
This season absolutly not, but i think our window realisticly may close this year, expecting the big 3 to stay healthy after this one and qucik enough definsivly may be a stretch.

Re: Would you guys take back Al Jeff for Garnett now?
I love Al and think he is the best offensive low post player in the NBA and it is great to see him do well. But his contract will be up in 4 years never mind 5.
As good as he think he is I don't know that his impact on a team's success is greater than that of Brand or Boozer.
KG is a beast on both ends and his level of intensity is unmatched, he has been better than advertised.
No chance.

Re: Would you guys take back Al Jeff for Garnett now?
I've been saying it for 2 years now. Big Al is the best low post scorer in the game bar-none. That being said there's now way we I'd trade KG for Big Al at this point. 3 years from now is a different story, but Big Al can come back home when his deal expires in Minny in like 5 years.
